I couldn't be more disappointed. I had a simple small orignal painting that does not lay entriely flat. I needed a simple mat. Jimmy tried to talk me into a double mat and then pretended that I didn't understand what he was saying while he made the double part an extra back. I asked how he would attach the painting and he said not to worry. He attached it in two spots at the top so that the bottom curls up. I'm an artist. I usually do this kind of thing myself. I'll use acid free photo corners to secure the painting - something I expect a profssional to do. I also asked for the bottom of the mat to be wider than the top and sides so the finished product would be a rectangle. He couldn't be bothered with that so I have a square. Making the bottom wider is a standard system. I didn't ask for a fix as I was so insulted by my first encounter where he played that I didn't understand English. Probably he's good if you're not familiar with framing and go with his direction but not if you have an idea of what you want. There are other framers in the neighborhood. read more

Jimmy is the best! He does a fantastic job. I have had him frame everything from my kids' diplomas to extremely valuable works of art. I trust him to frame anything. His work is impeccable, and he can do frames with museum glass or museum plexiglass for larger pieces (no glare and UV protection for valuable works on paper). I wouldn't trust anyone else. When I brought the artwork in they made a suggestion about the framing and I liked it immediately - but until I saw it completed I didn't realize how special it was going to look. I was disappointed in the customer service at Jimmy's. I came in to inquire about fixing a broken frame to which the reply was that it would not be possible without redoing all four sides of the entire frame. Wanting to understand the construction process and the logic behind why repair of one side would not be possible, I asked politely but received a curt, disinterested reply, followed by a finite exclamation that no shop anywhere would be able to do what I was asking for. It really seemed like unless I was willing to spend money to have them redo the entire framing, they were not interested in helping me. I'm glad this experience didn't deter me from trying again at Jack's in Morningside Heights where I received exceptional customer service. And, contrary to Jimmy's they WERE able to repair my frame without redoing all four sides. read more

What a terrific experience working with Jimmy! He is very pleasant, knowledgeable, helpful, patient, did GREAT work *and* completed the job on time! Although the shop is small, it has a large selection of wood and metal frames in many styles and prices. Jimmy reframed a poster for us and was able to stay within our price range with frame options according to our descriptions of what we were looking for. In the end, it turned out that our chosen frame had been discontinued, so Jimmy selected a very similar alternate frame--that cost more--but ate the price differential himself. This was very decent of him, and the substitution worked perfectly. He also accepted a Groupon, which made the transaction even more cost-effective. I plan to return for future framing work. I purchased a breathtaking photo and had it framed by Jimmy. It was/is PERFECT. Jimmy & his staff are very friendly, supportive and talented. Jimmy worked with me on this project and he was/is patient, fair priced and very conscientious that I felt great about what we had decided upon. He did not want to push me into anything. When I asked for help in hanging it (as it is large) and I live in a pre-war building, he recommended someone (Gil) to hang it. Gil was quick to respond to emails in coordinating; he was on time, professional and did an excellent job with very little interruption and no mess. I recently went to Jimmy's Custom Framing to have a print and a 3-D object framed. Jimmy went out of his way to accommodate my framing requests. The frame I wanted was out of production and Jimmy offered to break down one of his display frames to custom build a shadow box to meet my specifications. After seeing a print in the window of Jimmy's when I was in NYC last summer, I ordered the print via e-mail. (I live in Minnesota.) The price was steep, but it was a gift for my husband's birthday in May. Customer service was excellent, and the framed print arrived packed professionally and without a scratch. My husband loved it.
