If you come here for a date, be prepared for sitting outside at a picnic table on the patio, hearing traffic on two major roads, the occasional train on the other side of one road. If you want romance, bring your own candle. The inside is only a kitchen and probably an office, no seating. The grille king took our orders and my money, and brought the food out when it was ready. Lots of John Wayne photos on the inside, lots of train signs on the outside. Okay, how was it? Good enough for everyone. The brisket was tender and not tough, the links had a strong taste and were not overly spicy. I also had cole slaw and potato salad, both were also very good, and the hunny's rice pudding also got high reviews. All three of us loved it. Bar B-Que Depot was the girl's idea, she drove us here, and we all thought she made a wise decision. Who cares if it's the best in SETX, it's a great one.

Brisket (I got sliced and it was all from the flat) was a bit dry and was lacking some smoke flavor, but still good with good flavor. I wish I had gotten the chopped instead as I presume that would be from the point. Coleslaw was OK, beans were OK. The stuffed potatoes looked good. Service- 4 Stars Friendly and quick. Value- 4 Stars Well priced. Atmosphere- 4 Stars Pretty much what a BBQ place should look and feel like.

1701 Barbecue lived up to every bit of the hype. And then some…read more We came to Beaumont because I had business involving TDCJ and had my mom and brother in tow with me. Mom needs to be entertained, and she loves to eat. So while researching things to see, eat, and do, 1701 Barbecue kept showing up over and over again. Now I know why. Wow doesn't even begin to describe it. We ordered a pound of brisket, brisket boudin, pit beans, pepper jack mac & cheese, chocolate chip cookies, banana pudding, canned sodas, Boerne Original Jalapeño Everyday Sauce, and Hot Rodeo Sauce. Every single thing was delicious. (Well, I didn't eat the sauce. Both are gifts for friends.) The brisket was unbelievably tender. My mom is 84 years old and actually said it was the best meat she has ever eaten. She spent half the meal trying to figure out how they get it that tender and then asked. They cook it for 14 hours. The brisket boudin was fantastic, the pit beans were loaded with flavor, and the pepper jack mac & cheese was every bit as good as everyone says it is. Even the desserts were outstanding. The banana pudding is homemade and disappeared quickly, and Mark devoured the made-on-site chocolate chip cookies. We got there just in time before an afternoon downpour, and while it was busy, it wasn't the chaos some online reviews had led me to expect. Everything was excellent and definitely memorable. The only negative thing I can say has nothing to do with the food and everything to do with online ordering. Skip the online premium. Seriously. Every website suggests to skip the line and absolutely order ahead because it's a MUST. Nope. The prices online were noticeably higher. For example, the Friday half chicken special was $8 online but only $6 in person. The banana pudding was $5 online versus $3.50 in the restaurant. When the line is reasonable, it's simply not worth paying the extra markup. Save your money and order when you get there. Food this good doesn't come around often. If you're in Beaumont, 1701 Barbecue is absolutely worth the stop.

The point is plentiful, delicious, so much to choose from and the customer service is next to none! The restaurant was filled with diverse patrons, the mood was set to great old school music. The only draw back is that they are not closer to my home town. I would be there daily! The price was $25/plate and worth every penny. We had enough to eat a full plate that night at home.

Also, the customer service is phenomenal.! everyone that works here treat you like family and super nice to you. I am so glad I stopped in today. I love how they keep the place super cold in the summer because it gets real hot in Texas. Food: this is some of the best food I've had in a long time. The beef tips remind me of a lot of Burt's , meat bar in Houston, Texas, who shut down right after Covid. The beef tips over white rice is amazing. So tender and so good my God how can you make food this amazing? The macaroni and cheese is phenomenal as well. So were the candy yams. The cornbread is great. The gravy that goes over the beef tips is simply the best. The hamburger steak is full of flavor as well. Once again, this is some of the best soul Food I've had in a long time. Top-notch customer service. Real nice people working here. I will definitely come back here anytime. Easiest five star review of written in a while. We need someone to come do a YouTube video on this place because this is what you call a hidden gem.
