Stereotypical Texas bbq joint: Small, slightly run-down building, prices are $10-18, emphasis is on the food and not the atmosphere. "10-4 on the choke-and-puke." If you come here for a date, be prepared for sitting outside at a picnic table on the patio, hearing traffic on two major roads, the occasional train on the other side of one road. If you want romance, bring your own candle. The inside is only a kitchen and probably an office, no seating. The grille king took our orders and my money, and brought the food out when it was ready. Lots of John Wayne photos on the inside, lots of train signs on the outside. Okay, how was it? Good enough for everyone. The brisket was tender and not tough, the links had a strong taste and were not overly spicy. I also had cole slaw and potato salad, both were also very good, and the hunny's rice pudding also got high reviews. All three of us loved it. Summary- Really very good ribs and pretty good everything else. Food- 4 Stars Ribs were out of this world, smoky throughout, tender, delicious. Brisket (I got sliced and it was all from the flat) was a bit dry and was lacking some smoke flavor, but still good with good flavor. I wish I had gotten the chopped instead as I presume that would be from the point. Coleslaw was OK, beans were OK. The stuffed potatoes looked good. Service- 4 Stars Friendly and quick. This is not what it claims to be. We went here based on the reviews, we are not from this area. Pulling up it looked like it would be a really good hole-in-the-wall bbq joint. As we were walking to the door both my husband and I commented why don't we smell smoke?? Any great bbq place you can smell at a distance, it was Saturday afternoon. We walked in and ordered the 3 meat plate: sliced brisket, ribs and chopped brisket, slaw and beans. The food was not fresh. The meat actually still had pieces of suran wrap stuck to it where they tried to reheat it, big hunks! The brisket was dry with almost no smoke ring, no flavor, there was no rub or bark on the outside and no smoke flavor. Almost like they just used coals or fire wood. The ribs did fall off the bone but again no flavor at all, no rub, nothing. The beans were literally a can of VanCamps pork n' beans, not even doctored. If you're looking for GOOD bbq this is not the place to go. If you just want meat with no flavor that's dry that you can drown in sauce then you may like this place. The sauce wasn't bad. Not great, but not bad either. We won't be coming back, big disappoint from what we were expecting based on the reviews. read more

Found a HAIR in my pulled pork sandwich!! We stopped in here hoping for some real Texas bbq on our drive from New Orleans to Houston. The place was deserted but we kept an open mind. We were "greeted" by a sour employee who took our order at the counter. We ordered pulled pork sandwiches, beans and potato salad. We found this little neighborhood restaurant while traveling thru Texas. The owner was our server.she explained she smokes the meat. She did a good job explaining the menu. I had quarter smoked chicken with two sides. The cole slaw was excellent made in house. The chicken had good flavored rub. The white meat was very moist. The prices were very reasonable. They appeared to do a busy take out business there was a line outside. I would go back if I lived in the area. I would try the brisket.it looked good. read more

Stumbled upon this place traveling from Lake Charles to Houston, tracked Yelp closely to find good BBQ along the I10 corridor. It's about 2 miles off the freeway, nestled on a street intersection. Cute little BBQ shack look, all good signs. I ordered 3 meet plate, ribs, brisket and chopped brisket. Smoke was intense, I think it caused a sour acrid taste or maybe it was the rub, either way wasn't very attractive. The sliced beef was tolerable, ribs worse and chopped beef over the top. I wasn't really satisfied and didn't finish up. Baked beans tasted ok, out of a can maybe, same with Coleslaw. I had the peach cobbler which was crust cobbler, I think there was a smidgen of peach I mean like pea size. Banana pudding seemed like Jello pudding with some vanilla wafers on top. I desperately wanted this place to be good, unfortunately a fail. It's worthwhile if you are desperate for BBQ, otherwise I won't be returning. read more

At first glance I was prepared not to like this place. To say that I was pleasantly surprised is a bit of an understatement. It was clean, neat and had some very fine Barbeque. It compares very favorably with some of the well known places in the hill country area. I try to eat here when I am in town and they have not let me down yet. It has a very good smokey flavor and a smoke ring on the meat. I have eaten almost everything on the menu and it has all been universally good. It's a small town mom and pop BBQ joint that does what it is supposed to do. If you are in the area it's worth bypassing the fast food places closer to the interstate and eating here ( except maybe Whataburger). read more
