It may have also helped that we came during off hours (4-5pm). For all the fast casual burger joints that are out there, I got to say Freddy's is doing it right. This was the second Freddy's we tried on our recent road trip (we tried another one in Sioux Falls), and the food came out, hot, fresh and fast. I have to say, this is one of the better smash burgers in the fast food game, if not the best. I would put this place over shake shack (which may not be a high hurdle for some people). I also love that you have the option of tater tots or fries. TOTS FOR DAYS! And they crisp them up too, which is the way to go, no doubt. One final comment about this place - the dipping sauces. I love a good dipping sauce and Freddys had three to choose from - their original, smoky, or jalapeno. While they were all good, I thought smoky was the best. I even took some home to savor the flavor at another time. OVERALL - definitely dug this place. Perhaps we just hit it at the right time, but the food was on point. It looked like they were a little slow to clean up after some guests left, but a good number of people entered after we got there. We coming back (maybe not to this specific one, but another one no doubt). CELEBRITY RATING - Adam Driver

This restaurant was one I found during a trip to Rapid City, SD and through YELP, so shout out to…read moreYELP. This is very much a diner style restaurant in the very best sense of the word, "DINER." The night I dined here, it was somewhat after the usual dinner rush, so the crowds were gone and the hostess led me to a corner booth near the back of the restaurant and handed me a menu. Like many diners you may have eaten at, the menu at COLONIAL HOUSE is huge. As I get older, huge menus are becoming more intimidating because they offer a large volume of selections that you have to choose from while a server is waiting (sometimes not all that patiently). That having been said, there is enough variety on the menu here that if you can't find something you'd like, you are probably a very picky eater. One surprise and also an intimidating one was the humongous portions that are delivered when your plate arrives. I knew immediately that I would not be able to finish the meal and resolved not to try and ask for a take-out box once I ate what I could finish. My dinner (what I managed to eat was excellent) and the server had no problem providing me with a take-out box. The food kept well in my hotel's room fridge and reheated well the next day for lunch. The baked products at COLONIAL HOUSE were a feast for the eyes and I ordered a piece of strawberry shortcake to take with me back to my hotel. Mouthwatering delight! If you are visiting Rapid City and want to completely SKIP over the far too numerous chain restaurants in the area and get far better food brought to you by servers who actually seem to like their jobs and the reputation of their employer, look no further than COLONIAL HOUSE. Just make sure you come with a completely empty stomach and a big appetite.

We did not like the cold, unfriendly starkness after walking in. The touch, do it yourself, screen menu is not customer friendly to us older generation patrons. There are some of us that want to actually talk to a real live person when we want to order and interact with a live human being. The fish-wich sandwich is ridiculously small for what you pay for. More of a child sized meal. We weren't the only "older" customers who didn't understand how to access your order board.
