I maybe the only person thats probably never been or ever had anything from jimmy john. A newbie to this sandwich place. It's a decent size place with seating. It was pretty busy when I walked in for takeout. A sandwich places that basically caters to that. I don't think they have any main salads besides sides dishes. Menu wise has a good amount of sandwiches option to choose from. I'm not sure if you can create your own. Plus there's a few different size options to choose from. Sandwiches can be made toasted or not. For my first ever sandwich, I went with the country club number 11 giant style which is on 16 inch French bread. Turkey, ham, provolone with lettuce, tomatoes and mayo. I also added jalapeños which was a mixture with peppers. I saw that some were the whole package but mine was cut in half. First impressions, there wasn't anything much to it. Your usually cold cut sandwiches. There was a decent amount of meat but everything else was lacking. A few slices of tomatoes with shredded lettuce. Also even though I paid extra for the jalapeño, there was barely any in it. I thought the had forgot till I saw maybe two piece. The bread was nice at least. Overall, it was fine. Nothing major to rave about. The place does get quite busy during lunch time as it's near the courthouse. This downtown Long Beach sandwich shop might be one of my favorite sandwich shops in the area if not the most favorite! I actually prefer theirs over Jersey Mikes. I like how their French bread is, it's crispier but soft at the same time! And, they also offer to scoop off the white bread part of your bread for those calories conscious people (like me). My favorites from them are the turkey and tuna! So yummy. read more

Was in Long Beach again for a festival and decided to get some early lunch before the day really got started and ordered the Roast Beef & Cheddar sandwich and the Ultimate Italian sub. Let's just say, we will definitely be doing back, the bread was perfectly toasted and the sandwiches were beautifully assembled aside from it being absolutely delicious. A guy claiming to be the general manager has the worst attitude and customer service ever! I will never come back here, and it's so sad because it's down the street from me. Somehow my order ends up wrong majority of the time I order from here. Last time my order had a missing item so I called to let them know and whoever the young lady was that I spoke with on the phone said that she would just add a credit to my account in store for the amount of my total cost for my next visit and to just give my phone number and it should come up. I go in the "general manager" sees me as he's working on another sandwich and I stand there for 3- 5 minutes with no acknowledgment or a "hi, be right with you". He asks what I'd like then starts making it another employee comes up to get the rest of my order at the register and I let him know about my credit. He has difficulty typing in the number so the "manager" gets an attitude asks again and types it in then says with an attitude there's nothing there. I explain why I got the credit and he said the best he can do is discount it. I said never mind and walked out because that was not was I was promised for the inconvenience. If he really is your GM I'd suggest you get a new one. He's rude AF! read more

Mmm my Turkey Club Unwhich was fresh, crunchy, light, and decadent all at once! The service was fast & efficient. Thing that could be better deal with the location of this Jimmy Johns: it's metered parking outside which is sometimes scarce because it's near the courthouse. Also, the bathrooms (which you need a code for btw) are in the parking lot, outside of a door in the back of the restaurant. It's kind of creepy back there so I'd bring a buddy. Why do the corporate chains overlook the importance of their front line staff? Yes, there are a lot of paychecks to pay out. Yes, they need to spend time and money to train these workers properly. Why wouldn't they see that winnowing out the careless, ignorant, or rude help profits by making happy customers. Explain, I'm ignorant of boardroom logic. If logic is the correct word? In May, we had a very pleasant lunch at Jimmy John's. Then I learned that the original Jimmy John behaved like a world class creep. Never again. Then I learned that he was no longer involved in the chain and that Drew Brees was buying into the business. Well ok. The staff had been quick, friendly and efficient so perhaps this is a decent place to have lunch. This week's experience was like a masterclass in disgruntled behavior. They perhaps take their cues from the award winning "terrible performance by a counterman" from the local Five Guys? Even the manager was calling it in. The box lunch was put on whole wheat bread. Where did that idea come from? I think she heard the considered options being read off the menu and ran with it. It turned into a combo so no pickle. I don't return food to avoid its probable waste. The sandwich filling was ok, yet extraordinarily difficult to handle. I'll let the photos speak for themselves. Even the packet of their brand of potato chips that I praised a few month ago seemed not as good. Wall board posted prices are a maze of choices, variations, calories, free adds on and charged add on prices. Somehow I am without a receipt although a printed one was requested. A combo and a regular initially rang up to over $35.00. What? Since it was an obvious error which we could see, it was quickly corrected. The manager was standing about two feet away and in no way participated in this interaction to be sure things were going smoothly. So corporate owner ethical issues aside it is just too poor or mediocre/hit or miss an experience to want to choose this franchise again. When getting good service is a matter of luck of the draw, we'll choose a more reliable option. Two stars only because our first experience was so favorable. read more

First, let me start by saying we love Jimmy Johns, the staff is always polite. The food is always most delicious, but let me get to the point on our visit today. We added to our order the pesto pasta salad, I wish I could provide a picture but there was nothing in there, what I mean by that the container itself is one size, but the amount of pesto salad is completely separate amount, it was at best less than 3/4 the size of the container. I realize and understand inflation has caused prices to skyrocket, but if you're trying to save money, save money on plastic and use a smaller container if you're not going to fill it up. Needless to say I will never order the pasta pesto salad again, or the potato salad, but I will remain a faithful customer. Since I'm in a writing mood, let me say a few other things, please please when you get a phone order make sure it's complete! I travel about 10 miles to get to Jimmy Johns and on a few occasions I've been left without sodas and pasta and potato salad, when Ive return home my wife asked where's the salads, where's the sodas, so I've called back and told them they forgot it and they apologize for the inconvenience and told me to come back, but since I had to drive so far, I wasn't about to drive back it was a 20 miles round-trip, so they told us on our next visit we could get the salads and sodas then. On our return not once have they ever honored their promise of the soda or the salad. They said the employees whom were working weren't working that day. This has happened on more than one occasion, but we're still faithful customers because of the great food. Oh one last thing, are you Sandwiches shrinking? Please get it together. read more

Jimmy John's opened in Downtown LB not too long ago. I'm not a sandwich guy by no means. Do i frequent Subway's or other commercial sandwich shops a lot? No. I met Jimmy John's Long Beach location owner not too long ago when they were giving out samples and advertising their sandwiches to the local shops and commericial buildings in the LB area. The samples were delicious. Got me hooked! Fast forward, I finally ordered for delivery. There's a $2 charge per order for delivery, but you can always add your coworkers or friend's order and they don't have to pay the $2. $2 once per order. The website is also easy to navigate. Save some time and register your login. #12 is my favorite. The 8 inch is plenty of sandwich to go around. He white (French) bread is delicious, the meats and free add-ons are also fresh and yummy. I like Jimmy John's sandwich and I am a fan. Will continue to order from them for delivery to my downtown LB work location. Btw the order was super fast and delivered wayyyy quick! I'm not exactly sure what all of the low scores are about, but there was definitely nothing bad with my experience tonight. I've had Jimmy John's before, but I'll be honest and say that this was my first in-store visit to any location. I stopped in about 5:30 and was immediately greeted by a very friendly and patient young man who was working the front counter. I wasn't exactly sure what I was in the mood for, but once I figured it out,he walked through the options to customize my order to make sure I got what I wanted. I really hate a messy sandwich and this one was neatly made and exactly what I needed. The great chips and a chocolate chip cookie added the finishing touches. The restaurant itself is a good size, but I imagine that it can get a little tight during a busy downtown LBC lunch rush. I also think that 97% of Long Beach sandwich spots could take a page from this JJ location because it was absolutely spotless, both in front and behind the counter. I have nothing but good things to say from my experience -- their in employees in the store are friendly, the orders I've made have never had issues, and food is prepared and delivered within reasonable time. What happens when you fail to listen to the customer? It was not busy, you can't blame it on background noise, I spoke clearly. "Number three, jimmy it up" Why have a sign on the wall that says "Jimmy it up"? I even pointed at the sign and said "jimmy it up" While it is a quirky little catchphrase to add a series of condiments to the sandwich it serves no purpose if the employee ignores the customers request. Maybe it's my thick California accent? Maybe I didn't speak loud enough? Maybe I just need to stop coming here and pack my own lunch? I'm not sure why there's all of these negative reviews. Jimmy John's is as superb as can be in a chain/franchise cheesy inspirational framed poster kind of way. It's hard to miss the sort of ironic but heartwarming "16 things I've learned" poster that's hung up on the wall that the owner of the franchise wrote. Including something about "don't expect anyone to make a big deal out of your birthday after age 11," this life advice was perfectly presented at his 50th birthday party, which I'm sure wasn't a huge gathering attended by stakeholders and sprinkled with lengthy speeches by mentors praising his success and making a big deal about his birthday. The sandwiches are great because they aren't huge and undevourable. You can safely eat an entire "giant" sandwich, as a non-overweight person, in one sitting if you're hungry enough. The best part is they make them super fast. Maybe a little scary fast, actually. Sometimes it's good to wait a few minutes so you know their heart was poured into them, but it's a chain with rigid rules, owned by a super inspirational guy who probably made another less inspirational list with questionable guidelines his employees should follow, like a 30 second max per sandwich. The people there are all super friendly. There's like 10 people crammed behind a counter ready to take your order the minute you walk in. They truly care about their customers and regulars and make it a point to be a part of the community by handing out menus. It's also fun to stare at the manager guy during the 15 seconds I'm waiting for my sandwich because he's gorgeously California and probably just as enjoyable as the sandwiches. Received our order very quickly, always love that about JJ's. However tonight we got a Turkey Tom sandwich with basically one slice of turkey on it. I called to ask about it and the manager just wanted to argue that this is a measured portion of meat instead of making it right by me, the paying customer, who paid $11 for this "sandwich". I'm sorry, but this amount of meat is not the measured portion, it has less than 1/2 the amount of the turkey on the other sandwich (the other sandwich has double meat but is easily 4x as much on it). 8/12/15 Jimmy John's is located right by the courthouse. I walked in here on a Wednesday morning. I was warmly greeted by beautiful people. The sandwiches are made fresh. Don't let long lines discourage you as the staff members are expeditious pros. There are indoor and outdoor seating. And it also DELIVERS! I enjoyed the artwork on the walls. After reading a review by Martini Momma I decided to check this place out for two reasons. 1) The chain is fairly new to California and definitely new to Long Beach; and 2) who does not like to sample deli food ..... OK .... OK ... You got me there .... my old GF Mindy !! So I decided to go on a Monday when the crowd was not so busy. Right ?? I arrived about 12:20 at the Broadway location across from the Police station and I noticed a couple oddities. There was a waiting line with people lined up outside on the sidewalk slowly moving inside to place their order .... Visions of serpentine lines and Disneyland crowds jumbled in my mind as I used my IPhone, signed up for Jimmy Johns Website, and was about to place my order on line, I had reached the teller ... Hmmm, not bad ... about a 10 minute wait. The other strange thing is there were no police people in the place ... Maybe they were looking at it the same way I was ... Line out front, a "Disneyesque" wait. Ya! if I were a cop (or Mindy) I would go elsewhere too. But to my surprise the order taking proceeded quickly handling the lunch time crowd. The nice employee asked me what I wanted. I ordered the #9 Italian of which she wrung the tab and told me it would be about 15 minutes! Hey wait.. wait .. wait a minute ... No order number!! Not even a name associated like Bill C with a Monica special ?? Her response was no problem they will call with your order when it is ready! Being suspicious, I decided to quickly customize it! Ehh, ... Ok .. Could you make that on a French roll with cucumber, extra extra peppers and Dijon mustard ... Her answer was alright ... But, that is an odd combination ... Are you sure you want that? I was not going to be "Disneyland duped" this time. 10 minutes later I heard a deep voice ring out from behind the delivery counter as 20 so people anxiously awaited their order to come up. ... "We gotts one #9 Italian on a French roll with dijon mustard, cucumber and extra peppers". Of the 20 people in line waiting impatiently most saying "who would order that concoction!". No one came to the front to snake my sandwich! So I grabbed my sandwich, scurried out of there like a pack rat, and let the others dupe themselves in or out of the standard bill of faire. I went down by the Aquarium of the Pacific and had my sandwich while basking in the sunlight of shoreline park. I wondered how Stacy might be enjoying her deli sandwich that she was having at Giuliano's Deli elsewhere in LA. All I can say is my sandwich was good ... The cucumber mustard and pepper combination was primo ... And I did not waist an hour or so of my time. So I guess next time I go in I will order the #9 Italian with extra Bill Clinton peppers on a dijon mustard Monica Lewinski french roll topped with added cucumbers. Came here for the first time while visiting the court house down the street. Now I'm sure I'll change my review after trying it for s 2ND time but this time....I just wasn't feeling it. STAY AWAY! I am currently at the end of a horrifying experience. I ordered a turkey sandwich with provolone cheese with lettuce and tomato, BBQ chips, and a chocolate chip cookie. When I received my order I took one bite of the cookie and noticed something was off. When I looked at the wrapper the expiration date was from 2016. I spit out what I could of the cookie and tossed the rest in the trash. I proceeded to eat my sandwich. About 30-40 minutes later I started having excruciating upper abdomen pain. The customer service is definitely hit or miss and the last few times have been pretty bad. I have mainly ordered outside of rush hours and mobile ordering seems to be the most inconsistent method of ordering thus far. Sometimes it takes 20-30min and some orders have taken over an hour to be marked as ready for pickup. The sandwich quality in regards to portion, presentation and taste is on par with what you would get at subway. read more
