I never had a hush puppy before and it was kinda bleh. Fried crap if you ask me. And the onion rings tasted kinda mushy so definitely NOT good. The ONLY good thing was the shake. I got the chocolate Oreo peanut butter flavor and that was definitely worth the extra money. Would happily pay for another shake but 100% feel like I wasted money on the food. Chicho's Subs is located in the Historic Roanoke City Market Building in Downtown Roanoke, Virginia, together with 8 other local restaurants. Most of which are set-up as Malls Food Courts, where you order, pay, and pickup your food at their window counter, and then you go to the tables and chairs dining area located in the middle of them all to have a seat and enjoy your meal. When I approached the enlarged poster of their menu, I was attracted to the amazing, creative selection of food items, many named after local attractions such as: "The Star," "Greenway Chicken," and "The Roanoker," to name a few. If this wasn't enough the menu had a section titled "Peruvian Burgers and More," with appetizing items such as "El Monstruo," "Pan con Pollo," "Royal Hamburger," and their original "Salchipapas." For those who like to eat light they also have a Salad selection, as well as a Wings selection. Their three Lunch Special are very convenient for lunchtime. They include chips & a drink. For those who like Cold Beers, especially during a hot Summer day, they also have a nice selection of beers, and even a few wines, which are displayed behind a glass wall on the counter. It didn't take long for the owner of this small but amazing local business to approach me from behind the counter and give me a warm welcome. After I found out he was Peruvian, and by the way I love Peruvian Cuisine, I began speaking to him in Spanish and enjoyed our conversation of his restaurant and all the other services they provided such as Catering, Ordering To Go over the phone for easy pick-up, and Door Dash, among others. He also explained more in detail some of their most popular items in the menu, highlighting their Freshness and Made to Order. To go big, I ordered #15 on the menu: "El Monstruo," translated to "The Monster." It was a Special Sandwich prepared in a fresh hamburger bun and contained an American Wagyu patty, tomato, lettuce, cheddar cheese, fried egg, hot dog, bacon, potato sticks, with the works (mayo, ketchup, mustard, tartar sauce, and home made hot sauce). I invite the readers of this review to view my accompanying photographs and video clips of this Sandwich, to appreciate it even better. To drink I reached in their Softdrink refrigerator and got a bottle of Lemonade. I paid with my credit card on a modern machine that a tip was optional but I gladly left one because of the amazing dining experience I've been having, even before eating my food. Afterwards, I went to find a table close by and sat down to wait for my sandwich to be ready. They called me to the counter when it was ready and the first thing I did before picking it up was to take photographs and video clips of it, since the light there was perfect for this, and for your enjoyment. The Sandwich was so amazingly delicious and big that I almost couldn't open my mouth to be able to eat it and some of the ingredients inside ended up spilling onto the paper inside the round tray where it came in. But it seems that their bagel operation was done in their Roanoke location and they were sent here. Because one of the things they had here was a sign that said that while they were renovating their other location in Roanoke, they were having their bagels shipped from a bakery in New Jersey. What they were making here were their biscuits. When I arrived, I was very impressed with this small but cozy, little deli and bagel shop. The fist thing you see is a display case with lots of bagels of all kinds. The bagels looked big and plumpy. I walked over to the ordering counter and a friendly young lady greeted me and when I asked her about the bagels, told me the story I just wrote about above. Since I was here already I ordered a Plain Bagel with Cream Cheese and a bottle of Starbucks Cold Caffè Mocha. The bagel was good but not as good as Donnie D's, which I still remember when I had one at their Roanoke location. It was warm, crispy on the outside and nice and soft in the inside. I also had an opportunity of seeing the trays of their biscuits made on the premises and they also looked good. I definitely recommend this place to stop for breakfast or lunch. They have quality products, a warm and cozy ambiance, an excellent customer service.

I waited in line as a lady in front of me was making her order at the ordering counter and a gentleman was waiting standing up for his take-out order. While I waited I took a menu brochure from the counter and planned what to order. When it was my turn to order, a friendly lady greated me at the ordering counter and answered some questions that I had about what I was planning to order. I ordered a Reuben Pastrami that came on a white rye bread, and included a bag of chips. To drink I ordered a Pepsi since they carried Pepsi products. When my order was ready they called my name and I went to pick it up. The sandwich came wrapped in a nice, heavyweight waxed sandwich paper. When I opened it at my table, the sandwich was humongous, filled with a generous amount of quality Pastrami, Swiss cheese, Sauerkraut, and Thousand Island on a white rye bread, and was toasted. It was amazingly delicious! So much so that I went back and complimented the owner and chef of the restaurant, in person through the window that led to the kitchen. I highly recommend this deli for breakfast or lunch. For they have the qualities of a great Delicatessen, focusing on quality ingredients, generous portions, and excellent service.

They literally come up to your car, take your order, and bring your food back. I loved the old school feel. It took no time for my food to arrive-about 7 minutes. I got a burger, onion rings, and a hotdog all the way. The onion rings were fresh, hot, and had the perfect amount of salt. The burger was well seasoned, had that crisp, grilled taste.
