Food was really... not very good. Coffee was fine. Pie was kinda gross. The waitress was wonderful though and almost made up for the terrible food. The seat was a bit messy and I feel table could have used a wipe down. 1 star for food, 5 stars for the waitress. read more

Great food and generous portion sizes. The staff is very friendly as well. The first time I was there, I got the Philly steak sandwich, which was delicious. I also tried their burger, which was very good as well. Last time I went. I had their club which was so big. I had to get a box to take some home needless to say it was very good as well. read more

went to Jimmies diner on George Washington on Friday. This was a graduation lunch that turned into a nightmare. We were a party of 7 and had fam come in from out of town. 4 of us ordered the jimmys burger, not one of us got grilled onions on the burger which I've had many times. My wife picked up her burger and a big jumped off her lettuce! My burger was so well done it was charred, other burgers same. Manager came over and was nice enough and took off the 2 burgers and we both lost our appetite . service was good, my point is we did Not get to eat with kids who were completely disappointed with entire lunch! I spent 85 some odd dollars even with the 2 burgers that got taken off. Completely a disaster! the mgr said they were having problems with the lettuce, why serve it or at least rinse it! Started out smoothly when giving my order. Two simple sandwiches and two drinks. The time it took to get our meal wasn't expected. Apparently, an empty coffee cup ranks importance in this establishment. The menu prices might seem fair in this economy, but the tip will not be. The other side of the coin is that "regular" customers get their food first. Our first visit will be our last. Comments on the food and ambiance will not contribute much to this reviewer's rating. When I first moved to Wichita, this was called Toc's. I was fascinated by the shape of the building and the location at a busy intersection. When I heard it had become a Jimmie's Dinner, I was looking forward to eating there even more. Inside, the place looks like a 50's blast from the past. It is old and worn, charming because the ladies wear the poodle skirt outfits while the men wear the white shirt, black pants and little white hats. Everyone is friendly and eager to please, even when an elderly couple across from us made outrageous demands. Down to business. We had all-you-can-eat pancakes. Hubby had a side if eggs. Turns out we only needed two pancakes, as they covered the entire plate! The waitress brought an extra bowl of warned butter, which we applied generously! Plenty of syrup to drown the pancakes in. Jimmie's diner is a great restaurant, the food is great the atmosphere is amazing but there is one thing I don't like and it's a waitress named Ethel.. when we first sat down we waited for 5 minutes for her to get to us and give us the menu and waited another 3 for her to get to us to ask us for our drinks, keep in mind it's not busy. Instead of getting our drinks she was talking to someone. I also want to mention we ate here last time and she took someone else's order who came in after us and when it came to pay she was hovering over me to see how much I would tip. read more

Took my girl here yesterday had to tell the waitress my order 3 times Denver scramble bacon and toast my girl got 2 eggs over easy bacon and dollar cakes the food was all cold...not even hot enough to melt the shredded cheese on my scramble. Waitress said bacon is not one of their sides said there would be a slight upcharge took 90 cents off the regular price of it and when it came out it tasted how a house fire smells needless to say one bite and was spitting it in my napkin. So wrapping up our bill was 32 and some change for gross and cold food and a waitress that had her head in the clouds. Used to be one of my favorite places. But after the last couple times of going I don't think I'll be returning upon leaving my girl asked if we can go somewhere else next time. The cook/waitress should be ashamed of themselves for passing off food like that at such high prices and expecting people to enjoy their meal i was a better cook at 10 years old. I'm not one to leave reviews often. If i do, it's for a reason. No matter how often I ask for this place to not give me eggs, they send eggs. I like the rest of the food, so I order again. However, at this point I'm done. It's either a service issue or a petty disregard for preferences. Either way, I'm not continuing to pay for it. It's ridiculously easy to not add eggs to a meal. So disappointed. Ordered biscuits and gravy, 2 sausage links, and hash browns for pick up. The sausage links were burnt, as was one of the biscuits. It looked like they threw the bad stuff in a box and gave it to curbside to avoid someone sending it back. read more

I suppose the idea is to serve everyone's food at once but we had food sit in the window for 10 minutes before it was served. The onion rings and fries were cold, the waffle with the chicken and waffles was cold. even the food that was put in the window last was not hot. The experience was underwhelming at best and we certainly won't be back. read more

Really good oldies dinner. Has a mom and pop type of feel. Great food and always excellent service. I believe there are 3 of these in Wichita. They have a daily special which is always a favorite of everyone. Friday is salmon patties, but hurry that one always sells out. Meals are not super expensive either. Third time coming here. Twice for breakfast once for lunch. Usually pretty busy but the food is good and inexpensive. Great environment for a diner. Seems like the food takes a little longer to get out than other restaurants, but I guess that also depends how hungry I am haha. read more

Had breakfast this morning and it was a bad experience. My hash browns were dry and over cooked. The toast had black hairs on all slices and the server told me the cook said it was off the butter brush. The server replaced the entire meal and there were traces of hair on the replacement toast. The hash browns were still over cooked. Usually the meals here are excellent and I eat here frequently. Not any more. Big disappointment. read more

The food was pretty good, and the service started out really good but then declined overtime. I asked for some catch-up after our food arrived, and it never came. The waiter did not really return to our table very often and we needed refills on drinks, we didn't have any forks for a really long time, the food was pretty much cold by the time we got to start eating it. But it's a cute little diner, and I think this is probably an anomaly. We will return again sometime! read more

Dirty Salt Shaker had black particles in it and dirty on the outside. There was something that looked like snot floating in my water glass. I have photos. Also the cook had a dirty grill because there was debris on my scrambled eggs. What has happen to the old Kings X Quality! Thought we would give this place a try again because of coupon/advertising. Big mistake. The chicken fried steak was 2 for 1, so I had to try it. 1. Steak had more breading/ coating than meat. 2. Mashed potatoes were so dry it looked like a pile of maggots. Wished I would have taken a picture of them. 3. Roll was not done so was doughy on the bottom. When we asked for a to go box so we could at least feed it to our dogs, wife asked waitress if she could put a little more gravy on potatoes 4. she grabbed our ticket and printed us out a new one for a extra dollar for sauce. Great atmosphere. Husband had the chicken fried steak and said it was the best he's ever had. I had the roast beef and had to have it heated back up because it wasn't warm. Very good after being heated up. The chicken noodle soup was delicious. Burgers looked and tasted great. The spaghetti was a major fail. read more

I ordered take out of two eggs over medium, two strips of bacon and a pecan waffle. This cost $13, which is ridiculous. And to top if off, the food was TERRIBLE! The waffle was so thin I could see through it, soggy and had a horrible sour taste to it. The bacon was limp, and the eggs undercooked to the point that one of the yolks had leaked out completely in the two minutes it took to get home. I will never eat here again. read more

This has a true diner vibe inside. Our service seemed a little off (maybe our server was new?) but she was very nice. I had the Reuben with tater tots and hubby had the meatloaf dinner. He thought the meatloaf and potatoes were good, but the soup and green beans seemed like they were right out of a can. My Reuben was pretty good. They served the thousand island dressing on the side, which I like. The tater tots were ok. We decided to try the shakes and ordered them to go. I'd say they were true diner shakes and we enjoyed them. We spent $36 for our meals and the shakes, so it wasn't cheap but it wasn't overly expensive either. read more

It has the only good fried okra I've found in Wichita after being here for 7 months now. Stopped in one morning for a quick breakfast right before I had to rush to work. I was pleased with the 50s decor and the poodle-skirt uniforms that are typical of diners like this. Although the place was packed, we got served very quickly. I was surprised to see fried apples frequently the breakfast menu, so I went ahead and ordered a combo so I could give them a taste. When I ordered I mistakenly read 'Fried Mush' to mean Fried Mushrooms. I was surprised again when this mysterious plateful appeared at the table with our meal. At first they looked like hashbrowns, my boyfriend thought they were fried corn muffins. Biting into one revealed they were crispy and pleasantly sweet. "They taste better with the syrup.." my waitress kindly suggested. I had never heard of fried mush before, but they were something between a pancake and a waffle... fried somewhat crispy and tasted awesome with the syrup. I left with hardly a dent in my wallet, while also satisfied for my day of work ahead of me. I will be back. read more

The food was about as typical diner-requested as you could get. not a bad thing, but nothing outstanding. The weirdest thing was when my family and I first walked in. There were no other customers, and the crew was gathered by the register talking. Soon as we walked in, they froze like seers in headlights and stared at us for a few beats. It was kind of unsettling, like we startled them or something.
