This is one of my favorites to eat when you're looking for a small old town diner. From the outside none of them look like much and on the inside you can tell that these are old restaurants. But the service has been amazing each time I go. When friends and family come into town, this is where I take them . They are ALWAYS pleasantly surprised. Not only is the food great but the prices are good also. I've never ordered anything that I didn't like so I would say... just Do you!!! Try it.... you'll like it!! read more

This location has reopened! Eating here this morning. It's the same menu as before but they've raised prices a little to adjust for the current economy. Seems just the same as before! The service has really gone downhill over the last several months. The food is decent but the $.50 per egg upcharge is price gouging. That's an extra $6 per dozen and eggs are nowhere near that expensive, especially not at wholesale. The decor hasn't changed in decades, except for a bit of paint and the gaudy advertising tabletops. read more

My husband and I have been coming here every so often since our kids and grand kiddos live in Wichita. We have always enjoyed this place, but after what we witnessed today, I don't think we will be going back. Now I don't know the whole story but the manager of the restaurant berated this poor waitress in front of everyone. She had made a mistake of some kind but that doesn't give her any right to treat a young lady like that. The waitress couldn't have been older than 18. I was a waitress for 30+ years and I would have quit immediately. I think everyone was somewhat embarrassed by this display. Shame on her! The food is great and the location is alright, but definitely not worth coming back if the employees are being treated like that. Had bought a deal on Groupon for this place. We went on a Sunday ( I think). It was busy. Had to wait for a few minutes for sitting. Sat down at table. It was a little bit before asking us for drinks. We got them and looked at menu. So I chose an omelet! Not sure now what Sister had. But we waited close to 45 minutes for our food to be delivered to our table. Just when we were going to walk out we got our food. When we inquired about why we hadn't gotten our food, as other tables that had arrived and seated after us had gotten their food, the waitress explained that apparently there is only one grill in kitchen and they make pancakes first!!! We went there especially wanting a sit down, home style dinner. We ordered their fried chicken dinner. What we got was dried up chicken! We tried to express how it looked to the waitress but she seemed put out that we would criticize the food. And how it looked was how it tasted! Very dry and not much there for the price! Older neighborhood restaurant that has good breakfast brunch. Went on a Saturday morning which was busy but seated quick. You sit where you want which is nice. Customer service is friendly. I got the hungry kid which comes with sausage, bacon, eggs, hash brown and choice of pancake or biscuit and gravy. Went with biscuit n gravy which you can tell it's homemade and real sausage. Loved it. I'm picky about my scramble eggs, this place got it right, thumbs up. My hubby got coffee and he hates having to open the cream for his coffee. This place actually brings you warm milk to use for your coffee. Nice home made breakfast place. read more

I read an article that Alton Brown came here and ordered everything on the menu so I wanted to see what all the hype was about. It did not disappoint. The pancakes were massive and fluffy. I ordered two not knowing and made it through one without bursting. I am very much looking forward to leftovers later. I was looking at everyone else's food and saw a cinnamon roll the size of a big plate. You could even tell they broke out the good bacon and syrup. So good. read more

Ooh my. The best liver and onions I've ever had. Very tender and yummy (just a little grease) covered with lots of onions. The breakfast ham and eggs was delicious. The hash was over cooked, but was replaced with better. Try the cream corn nuggets for an appetizer. They are truly delicious. The pie looked so yummy, but we were so full. There was no room. We couldn't ask for better service. Everyone was very friendly and attentive. Prices were good for the amount of food. We would highly recommend this cafe to everyone. read more

My large family and I were passing through Wichita to head home to Nebraska. I checked out TripAdvisor and Yelp and this diner had good reviews. I checked out the menu as well. I thought the sandwich prices were very fair and sounded good. The 11 of us went in and were nicely greeted. This diner is comfortable, relaxed, and very laid back. We ordered and I got a Reuben. It was probably the best Reuben I have ever had! The menu stated the sandwiches came with half fries. Holy moly! We had half a plate of homemade fries! So good! The burgers looked good as well! The staff was very friendly and tolerant when a few of our kids got crabby. The exterior of the building may make you rethink stopping, but do it! You'll love it! read more

On a recent road trip through Colorado, Kansas, and Oklahoma just trying restaurants and seeing the sights, we randomly chose the Riverside Cafe in Wichita. I'm sire glad we did. Of all the places we ate at, this was my overall favorite experience. The food was great and the atmosphere was even better. A bustling cafe with great eats. I had the chicken fried chicken sandwich and couldn't resist getting the half order of biscuits and gravy. My whole meal was about 10 bucs and wonderful. I will most definitely be returning. *edit .....so I returned....and it was just as yummy as the first time. I LOVE this place for breakfast and only wish I lived closer. *edit2....returned again, a year later. this time had chicken fried steak. Excellent once again!! read more

Riverside Cafe takes that whole 'greasy spoon' thing literally. The food is safe, bland and predictable. I mean that as a compliment, as the menu is familiar, formulaic. The service is fine. But parking is terrible, in this sketchy party of town. And the space is in bad need of a spring cleaning and refurbishing. Great food, great service, fair price, ample portions and a wonderfully friendly staff. My wife had the Philly cheesesteak and fries, and was completely satisfied with her meal. I had the HUGE burrito in green chili sauce, and was very surprised how filling this single item was... I would have asked for a to go box, but burritos don't reheat very well, so I stuffed myself to finish it... :) They also had an "extra" hot sauce you have to ask for, but it was not only pretty hot, it was also delicious and flavorful... Went there lastnight for the first time. Service sucked. I asked for iced tea can it was really watered down. When I asked for a replacement it never came, so it was either choke or drink the iced tea water. It took forever to get my food. A couple that arrived 10 minutes after I did got there food first. The food was ok. The fries were hand cut which I like. The burger was greasy, but the bacon got some of that grease. I'll give it another shot. read more
