The staff were friendly, order was accurate and arrived fairly quickly, the food itself was trash. I usually order the same, a combination of shrimp tacos and a bean burrito. This order included two shrimp tacos for myself and steak tacos for hubby. The shrimp tacos were dry, spicy and lacked flavor. I know these tacos and how a true Jimboy's shrimp taco should taste. I have been eating Jomboy's since I was around 12 and enjoying their shrimp tacos since it was added to the menu. There is typically a white creamy sauce on the shrimp and the garnishes included are mild to medium to complement the shrimp, not overpower it. The corn shell did not had the signature dusting on the exterior, but it had to be sought out versus being easily viewed as typically received. The exterior of this Jimboy's in heavily uncared for, is run down in appearance and does not reflect the exterior of a single Jimboy's I have ever frequented. My husband asked if we were in the right place! I would not recommend this location and advice to keep your money for a different establishment. Went to two locations, Foresthill and 2nd St in Reno. Both were great, not my first time here, but it's been a while. Stopped in Foresthill on the way up to Reno, wife liked it and requested we 'stop at another before we go home". She enjoyed her steak taco enough that it made a real impression on her! My steak and carnitas tacos were both great, I appreciate the effort made to grill the tortillas and the addition of the Parmesan to the outside, and the meat was REALLY GOOD! Honestly, the ground beef tacos are pretty much garbage and that is what most people are going to order when they go to this place. They do an ok Taco salad but the hidden gem on the menu is the hamburger. It is made like an actual flat grill burger you would get in a bar but for almost half the price and one of the only places in town you can get one at 1am. The service is usually pretty good too but almost everything else about Jimboys feels dated, from their decaying buildings to the rarely cleaned salsa bar and booths and also, hope you don't need to use the restroom while you are in there. read more

I was in town for the weekend doing my country concert thing with the girls and wanted to try this spot for a quick bite. I'm soooo on the fence but since I'd been here twice during this trip it can't be too bad, right? Honestly, it was open, close to my hotel and edible. Pros - 1. Friendly Service. 2. Never a line in the drive thru. 3. The potatoes were DELICIOUS. 4. The chicken inside the chicken tacos were delicious and aplenty. They dusted the outside of the tacos with what seemed like a cotija cheese or something. Not bad and thats what saved it for me. 5. Shredded beef (burrito) was delicious. They give you LOTS of meat. It was stuffed with it. Cons - 1. They ALWAYS forgot my condiments both times even though I specifically asked for them. 2. Prices were high for the quality. 3. The beef I got in my burrito tasted horrible. I took 3 bites and threw it out. 4. The food is inconsistent in taste. To me it was a hybrid of Taco Bell/JIB tacos. 5. Taco shells were too reminiscent of JIB for me. 6. The burritos were folded in such an awkward way that the burritos on both separate occasions fell apart and were unpleasant to deal with. Its on the strip with tons of other food but for me it was all about location and convenience. This place for me is neck and neck with a Taco Bell, tbh. Actually, I would prefer Taco Bell. It's midnight, we've had a long night, and we're super hungry. What's near the hotel? Oh hey, a Jimboy's, and they're still open! Roll through the drive-through. It's dark and sketchy. Perfect. No idea what a "Taco Burger" is, but I'm gonna find out. We grab one of those, and a couple ground beef tacos, as they are the classic item here. Order is out in a couple minutes, and everything was just fine. The taco burger was super greasy, running out of the package and forming a pool in the plastic bag. Walked here from the PepperMill. I've been here several times when I've been in town. Always greeted when I come in and the staff is always helpful if I have questions. Don't be fooled by the "good" reviews. Went to the location on S. Virginia St and tried not to judge a book by the cover and ordered the food anyways. Huge mistake and can't believe this place is still open. 1) Building is falling apart. No sign or lights. Graffiti all over the building and windows. Not maintained for years it seems. Like YEARS. 2) Prices don't match what was online. On google or yelp. needs updates. 3) Ordered the family 6 pack Ground Beef Tacos w/ dusted Parmesan. Tacos soggy and stale, chips were covered in salt and stale. Potatoe wedge fries with queso dip DO NOT ORDER. Soggy and didn't even taste the cheese it smelt so bad. I ate Jimboy tacos daily when I lived in Reno. We moved away...no Jimboy's. Every time I got back to Nevada or California I went to Jimboys. My favorite are the shredded beef and the diablo shrimp. For awhile there was no more shredded beef---I still went. I love the hot crispy tortillas combined with the cold lettuce and delicious spicy meat. These could win any cooking contest. Now I am back on a visit after 6 weeks of traveling around Asia. First stop? Jimboys' tacos. I went to your location on 2nd street in Reno. I got them to go. I reached in the bag to pinch off a bite of the crispy tortilla and I could not find it....what I found was soggy and felt like it had not been cooked at all. I took a pinch--nope it was raw, soggy tortilla. By then I was back at my hotel so I called and he told me to bring them back. I went back to the restaurant got new tacos and came back to thehotel. They were still soft but at least they did not taste raw. I ate them but what happened to your quality? There were only 2 small shrimp in the shrimp diablo, the cabbage was good--yes that is scarasm. fast forward a day. I went to the Jimboy Tacos on Virginia street....I did not check for a few blocks but again, soggy tortillas. I got a fork at the hotel and ate the filling but no tortillas. At least there was shredded beef--no flavor but beef. I added sauce but still not much flavor. I won't be back, 3 times in 2 days was more than enough. First time at this Jimboy's in 20 years, since we moved out of state. Six of us arrived around noon on a Saturday holiday weekend and there were folks coming in and out regularly. Having lost track of all the orders at the table, I will focus on my wife's and my meals, with one exception: one in our group got a taco burger. He said it was exceptional and was pleasantly surprised. Sounded weird to me. My wife and I shared four Shredded Beef Tacos and a Cheese Quesadilla, plus two soft drinks (our usual order at any Jimboy's). All of our orders arrived without any issues, plus they were timely and inexpensive. Jimboy's shredded beef tacos are Mexican perfection: slow roasted, seasoned beef, a bit of lettuce, queso fresco, fried to a light crunch and then dusted with Parmesan cheese. I am finishing this review two days later and, in writing this, my mouth is watering. Time for more Jimboy's! read more

I grew up eating Jimboy's tacos in California. I havent had Jimboy's in a while and decided to grab some good from here with a few friends. I ordered the shrimp tacos which were incredible! I originally got two tacos and they were so good I ended up ordering another one. We were helped by a girl I believed named Anna. She was so sweet, nice and helpful. My friends wanted to try to rice and beans but decided they ordered a lot of food already. After we got our meal she brought our table a small sample of the rice and beans in case we wanted to order it next time we came in.
