My husband and I bought our house a few years ago, and after learning our lesson the hard way on smaller home projects, we knew when we were ready to tackle the bathroom addition and master bathroom renovation that we needed to take our time finding the right company for the job. We wanted to 1) add a bathroom to the existing square footage, and also 2) close off and renovate our current guest bath and open it up into our bedroom for a master en suite. I found Jim Huth Construction a while back and loved his work and design aesthetic. Davide was prompt in responding to my request for an estimate and I was super impressed with how thorough he was in estimating the job. He was very detail-oriented carefully measuring the space, and was thoughtful in his recommendations. This, compared to other contractors who threw out numbers within a few minutes and left, helped set the stage for the incredible work they would eventually do for us. We met with a handful of contractors and like some other reviewers here, got a wide range of estimates. Jim's estimate fell in the middle - not the lowest but not the highest. It was just as important to me to find someone who was reliable, trustworthy, mindful of the budget and understood our timing needs, and Jim and his team checked all of those boxes. I was five months pregnant at the time and the area of the house we were having the bathroom added to would also involve the baby's nursery. I grew up in a house that was almost always under some sort of renovation, and I've never seen a team work as swiftly as Jim's. They were ON IT. They knew how important it was to finish the bathroom addition before the baby's arrival, and their team was always on-time, clean, and cheerful. It's very obvious they take great pride in their work and they all make a terrific team! Jim was here every day either working or checking in, and we got to know what team members handled what trade and looked forward to seeing them everyday. Davide was always easy to reach if I had any questions and he must be a mindreader because he nailed it with design and materials, especially tile. We were completely blown off by this company. We made an appointment with David who came over with a design consultant to bid a kitchen remodel. David himself was interactive and shared many helpful ideas. His consultant however, did not say much and seemed completely uninterested in the job. David promised a bid within a week, which never came. A follow up email went unanswered. Completely unprofessional. I gave him a picture of trim & baseboards that I wanted (South Carolina beach home), and his crew went beyond what I had hoped for. My house is small 1100 sq. ft. and so wanted to add some charm. I am so excited to be working with this team. Jim Huth and David Sciabica have been instrumental in helping to design my new condo that I recently closed on. The remodel has not started, but so far I am impressed. Prior to closing on the home, I reached out to David and Jim. There was a lot of repairs that needed to be done on home after home inspection. The owner was old and has mobility issues. She was not going to repair anything, but the repairs were to make the home to code and safe. I reached out to the team to see if they could get me an estimation of cost for the repairs as they would be my responsibility. They responded in a prompt and timely manner. I've got nothing but good things to say about Jim Huth, his company, or his team. I'll skip the complex details of the job Jim's team did for me, but suffice to say: un-permitted work had previously been done in my apartment and it was illegal and inhabitable. Jim's crew demolished the illegal work and started from scratch, with permits, inspections, etc ... and did the job "right". I gave dangerous "lemons" to Jim Huth Construction ... and they gave me back, good/safe lemonade! If i could award more than 5 Yelp stars to Jim Huth Construction, i would. What I look for in most everything, is 'good value' ... it's way more than price (although Jim's prices are more than fair). i measure "good value" by assessing every step of a process/transaction, from initial contact ... to writing a Yelp review! A big component of of overall 'value' is less tangible--but it's captured in Jim Huth Construction's motto: "Quality and Integrity without Compromise". That pretty much sums-it-up, along with: friendly, honest and trustworthy -- all very important (at least to me). My experience with Jim's company, has been that it delivers 'great value", i.e., they exceeded my expectations. As a realtor and an income property owner I have worked with many good and some not so good contractors. JIm Huth by far is the most reasonable, smart, resourceful contractor that I have met. After checking Yelp, we had great expectations and hired Jim. His bid came in and I thought it was a little low, so I asked him to review it. He increased his bid by 20% and we gave him the job. Even though he was not the low cost bid on the job, we felt from his reviews that we should pay a little more to get a good job. He felt the job would take about 2 weeks and in reality it took 12 days, so pretty close. On day 9 he told me he had misquoted the job and wanted to increase his bid by 100%. I told him no, but we would pay the extra cost for a new water heater vs just moving the old one and more expensive doors, even though he had included the door cost in his original bid and knew the style of doors we were looking for. Jim was somewhat disorganized and didn't seem to remember what had been agreed to. I would give the finish work he performed a grade of "D"! Even though we expected some mess, they left paint, caulking and drywall mud on our front walk, front porch, hardwood floors, carpet and tile. The finish work was less than satisfactory. We hired Jim because of the reviews we read on Yelp, but are disappointed with the job he performed. I have upgraded Jim's review from 1 to 2 stars. After posting the Yelp review Jim commented on the review then followed up with a personal email. I responded and explained the items we felt were done wrong and overlooked. To his credit, Jim has taken full responsibility and offered to return to address the issues. We are unsure at this point as to whether to have Jim return or just move forward with someone else. But I do appreciate and give him credit for the offer. read more

We've hired Jim several times to do everything from handyman jobs to major remodeling and we have always been very satisfied. One thing I will say that I feel makes Jim stand out from other hanymen/contractors that we have dealt with is his reliability. He always shows up early and doesn't take days off until the job is complete. I've had friends tell me stories about contractors they hired that have left them hanging for a few days or weeks in the middle of a job. Jim is not that guy. The last time we hired Jim, it was to help us fix a gas leak on our property. Turns out the gas leak was our tenants gas line and the leak was coming from under the concrete. Jim started the job on Dec. 30th, it continued until the next day which was New Years Eve. He did not leave our house until 8:00pm on New Years Eve because he wanted to finsh up and make sure that our tenant did not have to go another day without gas. As happens with older houses, the problem ended up being a lot worse than anticipated, but he and his plumber were quick and professional and the bill was affordable. So, as indicated in my earlier review they were definitely the strongest player. I will upgrade them to a three based on the fact we at least got our estimate finally, and will add it was very complete. The only disappointment is that Dave texted me to let me know the estimate was in my email box.... which just begs the question if he was having difficulties with the email that you could've just texted me for the new address. Water under the bridge at this point however from what I can see the work appears to be good once they are underway. I think this is going to be indicative for any construction project undertaken right now. Everybody is busy and overbooked. I just purchased my new place, and there is a lot to be done. I contacted this company a week back because of the reviews, but it was a huge disappointment. I had two appointments with two different people, and I still do not understand why was it needed. Nevertheless, So they promised to send us an estimate 3-4 days back, but no one has ever got back to us. It was such a waste of time. Even no one cared to reply to our texts. We purchased a loft 2 months ago. It only had a closet system, bathroom and kitchen. We decided we needed a bedroom, office and two additional closets (one would be a walk-in closet). We also needed more electrical outlets, ceiling lights, and TV cable outlets. The design Plans included the installation of frameless glass panels for the shower and toilet area and frameless glass walls for the office on the mezzanine level. We met with Jim Huth to discuss our project and told him we needed to occupy in the next 3 weeks. He was honest to tell us that was a tight time frame, but he was willing to try to meet the deadline. Fast forward, Jim Huth and his crew finished the work on time and more than satisfactorily. What we like about Jim was his willingness to listen, his honesty in meeting deadlines, his knowledge in building and construction materials, his smart suggestions that were often better than the idea we had in mind, and his fair $price. I owe Jim a BIG thank you. I am fortunate enough to have Jim help me on a tenant improvement project. Jim is a very sincere and nice person. His crew is awesome, hard-working, and helpful. When I met Jim, I was in a trouble situation where I need to get the job done soon. He was going to vacation, and promised me to work on my project once he is back. His crew act fast. We tear down the old building (dry wall, frame, door, etc.) in a day. But then we get into trouble because of the architecture didn't do their research and did a bad job. Instead of waiting, Jim is very proactive, take action to do research, and go extra miles to get issue resolve. He works days and overnights on the project due to the special requirement on the project. (Another BIG special thank you for his team supporting overnight shifts.) He is not the stereotype General Contract that tries to rip people off, makes as much money as possible on the project, and runs. We had Jim do 2 projects a bathroom remodel and hang some closet doors. We could have not asked for a better guy to handle the projects. Jim and his team were very respectful and professional. The bathroom turned out better then we could have expected. There were a few hiccups with the plumbing and vanity, however Jim handled them well and took care of things. The closet doors needed some extra design additions, and Jim knew specifically what to do to finish the framing off and it turned out perfect. Needed a full gut bedroom bathroom remodel, so I called and spoke with a guy who said he handled all estimates and designs, so I scheduled an appointment. The guy shows up and my wife is home and she explains to him what we're looking for. He takes measurement and sketches some drawings down on his notepad. Tells my wife he'd have a quote for us within 10 days or so. Never heard back from the guy, text him back to follow up.... nothing. If you didn't want the job or it was too overwhelming for you, you could of just let us know instead of going 0 dark 30 on us. Very unprofessional. read more

I don't get it. David came out and looked at the site of a room addition I want to do. He was very prompt and friendly. Then he provided the contact info to Jon, their architect who also came out to review the site. He was very excited about the project and knowledgeable about the local code ordinances, and even spent some time researching further. After I consulted the city about possible variances/rezoning, I texted Jon and said he could send me the proposal he had offered when he came out to my place. He indicated I would have it within the week. The following week, with no proposal, I texted Jon again and he quickly responded with a note that he was extremely busy but would have something in a couple days. (I understand, we all get busy). After that Jon went completely radio silent. He stopped answering all texts. After three weeks of trying and getting no response I contacted David again. David responded that he had spoken with Jon, and that Jon would call me later that day. That was at least three weeks ago and NOTHING. Apparently the Huth Company isn't interested in my money. I have worked with Jim twice now. The first time I had emergency work I needed done. He was able to get the work done immediately, well and the price was less than I expected (especially since it was a rush job). Jim just completed a set of various projects around my house. We started off getting an estimate on my wish list work. Jim worked with me to get everything I wanted within my budget. During the projects there were somethings that did not get completed to mine or Jim's satisfaction. The items I pointed out Jim had corrected immediately & anything that Jim noticed he showed me and corrected to his satisfaction. One of the items Jim worked on required a lot more work than we expected in the initial estimate. In all fairness he could have charged a bit extra for that work but did not. We found Jim on yelp and asked if he could come do an estimate for a garage conversion to a family game room. He and Alex came over the same day and gave us a time that he would get back to us with an estimate. He was very friendly, knowledgeable and patient. Jim gave us an estimate for the job by email within a very quick time and then followed up with a phone call to let me know it had been sent (love the customer service). After three other estimates we choose Jim. Not just based on his price (which was fantastic) but more for his customer service and knowledge. Each day of the job, they came on time, left on time and they cleaned up every time they we're done for the day! ( big in my book! Shows they are detailed, care about their work and treated my home like they would want theirs to be treated). Jim came with a few suggestions to improve what we wanted done and didn't settle for just what we told him but made sure we got what we wanted and needed! The job was completed on time and came out BEAUTIFUL!! His suggestions were perfect!!! They always would say they want their customers to be happy and they did just that 1000th percent! I actually signed up for yelp just so I can write Jim this review!! I would highly recommend him to everyone!!!! We will use him again and again for our future projects we have planned! Jim Huth and his crew are remarkable professionals. Jim increased the storage in my small kitchen by approximately 50% with clever design and custom cabinets. Our home has many quirks (uneven ceiling, uneven floors, uneven walls, large beams in odd places) and Jim took care of every obstacle our house threw at him. He kept a great attitude under some extreme conditions and produced a beautiful kitchen for our family. He does quality work and has an amazing eye for detail. The "fit and finish" is perfection. I told him what I wanted and he made it a reality. Project included a hard to find bay window (depth restrictions), and Jim found one that is perfect. Even the cabinet under the apron front sink is finished off, no raw wood exposed supporting the sink! J and L - Long Beach - Keynote We hired Jim Huth and his wonderful crew for a last minute bathroom remodel. I had company coming over for Christmas and really needed to fix a "do it yourself" attempt that I had made which left our bathroom looking like a bomb had exploded. Jim took the job on in the month of December with a deadline of only 3 weeks before our company arrived. Jim managed to work us into his busy schedule - thank goodness!! Jim and his crew fixed the holes that I had knocked out at the top of our shower stall. Gives the bathroom a real retro feel. They tore out the old floor and put in new tile, one of the biggest improvements was the addition of a vent with an electrical fan with a light. They had to remove our pedestal sink and found that it to wasn't installed very well. Jim reinstalled the sink properly and fixed an outlet that wasn't even part of the job. Jim is very friendly and professional. His crew worked hard and long hours to ensure the job would be finished on time. On one evening Jim missed theChristmas boat parade with his family just to make sure they finished my bathroom on time. He and his crew went above and beyond to finish the job. I have since created a laundry list of jobs that I would like him to do in the future. I shouldn't forget to mention that his prices are very reasonable. Had Jim Huth come out and remodel a bathroom in our 1930s Long Beach home. And by remodel, I mean the full nine, down to cutting into the concrete slab, digging holes, complete plumbing, insulation, installation of a new window, electrical, tile, sheetrock and paint. Everything turned out and the experience was a positive one. All construction was permitted by the city and done within a reasonable timeframe. I live in a 1930's duplex. Jim has fixed / worked on our plumbing, electrical, lighting, and fencing on numerous occasions. Every time I call Jim, he has responded promptly. Jim did a fabulous job remodeling both of our bathrooms. My bathrooms were completely outdated and poorly designed. When I first contacted Jim, he was able to meet with me that same Saturday for an estimate. I was so grateful because I was gone at work during the week and all of the other businesses would only come on a weekday. I liked Jim and trusted him for the moment I met him.
