I decided to visit JIĀ HOME CO and try the candle making experience on a whim during a holiday weekend. I had always wanted to create a custom candle and wasn't sure what to expect. The entire experience was such a TREAT! I really enjoyed how calming the space was and how participants were given complete creative freedom and encouraged to explore and create a unique candle. From choosing the glass candle jar, to smelling the scents and creating a unique name and label it really was a special experience. I also appreciated the interactive portion of the workshop. Participants were able to get up and smell candles, smell each other's finished candles and learn a little about the "why" behind our scent choices. It was great that I could go get a bite to eat across the street and come back to get my candle the same day. I still have my candle (I use it with a wax burner instead of lighting the wick) and it still smells like the day I made it. The staff were very friendly, helpful and sweet and even offered to take pictures of me with my candle when I returned to pick it up! The price ($60) was well worth the experience. I would definitely participate in any of the workshops they offer.

What a great experience! I was gifted this candle making workshop and had no idea what to expect. The Asian influence scents sold me! I end up making a moonflower + jasmine & lemongrass candle. This is great as a shared experience. The guidance and engagement with a small intimate group made the experience so much better. Leona and her husband definitely has a great thing here.

I had such a wonderful time at Jia Home Co! Can't rave about it enough. Leona and Tony were kind, knowledgeable and personable making the whole experience memorable. I came in for the 90 minute candle workshop and had a blast! The process consisted of educating, blind testing 24 scents and then creating your own custom candle. The interactive experience is perfect for a date night, friends or family. What I really love about Jia Home Co is that it's poc, asian american, female owned! They create scents that are nostalgic for Asian households. Unique memories in a candle that you can't find anywhere else. Scents from Jia: Tea Talk - this was my favorite scent that Jia offers simply because, it's extremely nostalgic for me and is the most gentle, sweet jasmine scent that I can't get enough of. Pink Haze - this one is popular for a reason and is so fresh and floral. Absolutely love it.

What better way to spend a Saturday afternoon than creating your very own custom candle?? If you're looking for a cute and creative bonding activity, Jiā Home Co's candle making workshop has got you covered. For 90-minutes, you get to experience a blind scent wall of various fragrances (which rotate seasonally!) and a guided personalized candle making course. The blind scent wall really challenges you to figure out what types of fragrances you truly resonate with. Once you choose your fragrance blends, the hosts guide you through a precise step by step process. It was so fun and truly a wonderful experience. One of the most unique aspects of this small business are the various Asian-inspired candles. I chose to take home a few signature scents: Almond Jello (杏仁豆腐 / xìngrén dòufu), Tea Talk (茶話 / cháhuà), and Karaoke ( / noraebang). Not to be dramatic or anything, but Almond Jello literally changed my life. For the first time in my life, a candle was able to transport me back to my warm childhood days and evoke memories of a comforting morning bowl of Taiwanese almond soup. Thank you for recreating the nostalgia. I can't wait to light my new candles and come back again for another workshop~~

My sister found this cute candle making class on Tik Tok and we had to try it for ourselves. This was our first candle making class, so we didn't know what to expect. When we walked in and everything was set up nicely-it was super aesthetics! We were given some time to smell and guess 24 different scents. It was surprising how many scents I had encountered before, but did not know the name to. It felt great to finally put a name to each scent. After choosing our favorite scents, we started to mix different oils to create one scented candle. I really enjoyed the whole process and I think we will be back for more. I made a candle with Palo Santo and White Green Tea ( to me it smelled like a feminine men's cologne). ***********My Overall Rating********** Price: 4.5 Environment: 5 Service: 5

I cannot overstate how much fun I had at Jiā Home Co's candle workshop. Leona and Tony made everyone feel right at home, and every aspect of the experience felt so thought-out and well-paced. My favorite part was the blind smell test of the 24 scents you get to pick from for your custom candle scent. So much of what we experience with a scent is tied with the visual packaging or an expectation we have based on the name, so it was a very fun challenge to see what scents we could identify and which we were most drawn to! Every aspect of your candle is customizable, from the scent combination to the jar type to the label. It was so much fun getting creative with what to name the scent and how to decorate the label! What truly stands out about Jiā Home Co is its line of Asian-inspired candles that genuinely evoke familiar memories. Karaoke (noraebang) is a delightfully refreshing blend of peach, mint and mandarin that smells just like having a peach soju in a karaoke room. Almond jello (杏仁豆腐) is a creamy, true almond scent that isn't overly cloying like most other almond-scented candles. Needless to say, I left the store with a few more candles than I expected. Everything about this experience was so unforgettable. I'm excited for their new seasonal candles and I can't wait to come back!

It was so fun! Learned a bunch of new scents and it surprises you what you end up picking for your candle! Definitely recommend for a group!

I've never made a candle before so this seemed like a fun thing to do! The owner was very friendly and made the class interesting and easy to follow. We started off with a blind smell test and ended up with some surprising answers. Then you pick your favorite scents and concoct your own unique blend. The class was an intimate size and I had a great time with friends as a special occasion event. If you're sensitive to smells though, it might be too much... I definitely reached my limit by the end of class

I went to a candle workshop with my friend and it was a super fun and unique experience! The class was run by Leona, Tony, and Makayla. They are all super nice and love getting to meet their customers. In the workshop, you can really create your own custom candle from the scent to designing the label. The most fun part was doing the smell test of 24 unlabeled scents to see what we liked, then we got to combine a couple scents to create our unique candles. I'd highly recommend the workshop for a day out! The shop also sells Asian-inspired, handcrafted candles that smell absolutely amazing. My roommates and I have a few at home.

The candle workshop was wonderful. I'm bummed though that for the amount of money my candle did not have a scent when it was burned.

I can't afford the higher priced items even on sale, but I've managed to get a few smaller effects that have added to my coastal decor in my Capitola home in a classy way. I've always had great customer service experiences at this store. When you see a product you like, you've got to pull it off the floor immediately so other covetous patrons can't grab it -- I've had people tell me they want something I'm holding in my hands if I decide not to buy it; the employees graciously hold my picks behind the counter for me. One time I was looking at rugs and an employee pulled up all the images of the rugs I was interested in for me on the website with an iPad since they can't unroll them for you. Another time I was buying a sconce light and the cashier grabbed me a brand new one still in the box to replace the display model. The inventory changes all the time and there's always a good selection with a lot of cool stuff. Occasionally something might be a little dented but mostly the merchandise is in perfect condition and good quality.

I used to visit to find that hidden gem or get inspired to transform a piece of unwanted item into a functional item like a planter or garden art. This place is great for a DIYer or handy man as items have so much potential but can be a bit overwhelming if you're looking for something specific. My recent visit was to find a replacement window for a mini table-top greenhouse I put together about 15 years ago. Unfortunately, after a recent windstorm, 1 window broke and needed to be replaced. The original windows I bought were from a salvage/building resource spot in SF. At the time, buying 6 windows cost me $70 at most. Now (15 years later) for the same quality it will cost you $35-$60/window at Urban Ore. Ouch! I guess these windows may be used for a remodel of an older home. They do have another section for cheaper windows but sadly they look like the one I'm trying to replace...some wood rot, flimsy, peeling and weathered as they're not protected from the elements. Staff outside are friendly and helpful. Worth a stop to check out but some pricing on items a bit higher. Parking inside the gate and along the street.

I took my concerns to social media - mostly the huge "buy nothing groups" that operate in Berkeley. People were disgusted but not surprised by Claudio's behavior - we've all watched for decades how he sells the best tools to his friends in his tool corral. Many have also noticed his illegal use of THOUSANDS of white post office tubs - that alone shows us his (and by default) Urban Ore's ethics. One last thing - comments were ignored on your Facebook page - messages were ignored - I realize that someone at Urban Ore hopes this would just blow over - it hasn't and it won't - people are disappointed in Urban Ore's attitude. Personally, after having bought thousands of dollars worth of items from you over a twenty year period I would say this comes down to the bad attitude of your store manager - over the years I have met many of your staff members who obviously believed in "zero waste" - they have all quit but the guy in charge of the shop floor obviously thinks it's just a catchy slogan to get people to give you their stuff for free.
