Groovy shop with helpful wonderful people and magical potions. They have the far out items I need and of quality source.

I've been shopping at this place for years, and they have had some lovely products. They discontinued a lot of them recently because of changing laws around certain herbs, but my review today is specifically about their Solomon Islands kava. I bought a bag of it the other day, and I brewed it a couple different times. Times. First I used the blender method and I added some coconut milk and sunflower lecithin because it can increase the extraction of kavalectones. I then then did the traditional hand kneading method, and I started off also using the coconut milk and lecithin, and some warm but not hot water, and I needed it for a good 30 minutes after letting it soak for a half an hour beforehand, and I did get a little bit of the numbing sensation in the mouth from it, but other than that I felt absolutely nothing from it. From it. I go to kava bars regularly and the kava I get from there even from just one shell/ one beverage gives me a stronger feeling than drinking. What would be the equivalent of a tanoa bowl of twisted thistles kava. When I was doing some research on it, I also noticed that it's not listed as a noble kava variety which usually indicates a higher quality product. Their product is clearly very low quality! It's really disappointing. I bought this specific variety too because it's good for helping relax the body and muscles, more so than being heady like other varieties, but it did none of that, and just in case it was only me and my body chemistry having this experience, I also shared it with a friend who had the same lack of feeling from it. From it. Again, both myself and my friend go to kava bars regularly, and definitely can tell the difference! So if you actually want quality kava, you should probably order it directly from the kava bars or find another seller who can guarantee the quality of their product and also sell the noble varieties. Don't waste your money on their kava. I can't speak for a lot of their other products which I'm sure are just fine, but I'm frustrated that I wasted my money on something that is basically useless powder. read more

Nice selection of good smelling handmade soaps - I enjoy just looking around here as well as shopping. They organize their herbs and teas by intention and I find that logical and accessible. Friendly service and tasty tea, recommend coming in if you're looking for a healthy looseleaf tea blend. read more

Discovered this lovely shop as I was waiting for my to-go order across the street. The signage of the shop caught my attention and decided to look it up on the Yelp app before walking over. There is a hand-sanitizer station available to you when you enter and safety plexiglass by the register when you go up to make a purchase at the counter. Everything is properly labeled into sections and each item has a card describing the product by name and what its properties and benefits are. I appreciated these so much and actually learned quite a lot about superfoods, adaptogens, dried flowers, leaves, and herbs that I didn't know about before. Its okay to take a picture of the cards to remember what each item means or its enhancement properties. There is a small section of tinctures and medicinal items. Soaps, crystals, candles, beauty products, jewelry, Tibetan singing bowls, and more! The store is well kept and the woman who was working was super helpful and a delight to chat with. I ended up leaving with two different types of dried flowers that I can either enjoy as a tea or can be smoked - cannot wait to try them! Will definitely be back! They also have a stamp card where if you spend $20, you'll receive 1 stamp (per visit only). read more

I hate to have to write this review. I've been here before and had a good experience, but this visit, late on a Monday afternoon, felt uncomfortable. I was the only customer in the store at the time, and I felt like I was being followed and watched while trying to browse. The person working at the time had been at the register, but all of a sudden, she had to hover by the shelves twice near where I was. There were no other customers in the store at the time. I don't know if I was being racially profiled or not, but either way, the energy and vibes from this person made me uncomfortable, and it was impossible to relax and enjoy browsing. I left without buying anything. read more

I came across this place while window shopping and thought it was absolutely adorable. The staff was super nice and friendly and they had a lot of cool crystals, trinkets, and other metaphysical goodies. I look forward to going back when in the area because they did have some other items I wanted to look at, but the hubby was waiting, so I chose not to torture him anymore. I really appreciate the layout of the store, it was a bit cramped but not dusty, like my previous fav hangout, Angel Light. They also don't have the old, faded books that they carry. So, the four stars is because they are definitely worth a second look-see and yes, there will be purchases. read more

Twisted Thistle Apothicaire - Candles, herbs, and more? My kind of shop! - Health Markets Near Me - Oakland, California

So glad that we stumbled upon this place. They have crystals, trinkets, candles, as well various teas and homeopathic items. I personally suffer from PCOS and western medicine items such as BC and such do not work for me and so I wanted to check the homeopathic and natural way. They had 2 different teas to help with PCOS and as well a ground up root that you can sprinkle in your tea or food. I am on day 2 and so I will see if this starts to take affect in the next month or so! Crossing fingers. read more

I could probably spend hours in this shop. So many teas, crystals, candles and more. Every corner of the shop has something interesting that I want to buy. I ended up purchasing a really cute hand made mug, some tea and a crystal. My mug is my new favorite and I use it almost everyday. The only reason I am giving this place 4 instead 5 stars is that the customer service was a little stand-offish. I asked a few questions and I didn't feel like the woman working wanted to help me. I'm going to wrap this up as it's still a pandemic and some people are scared about interacting with others. This isn't stopping me from going back soon to buy more crystals and tea. read more

Great service today. Unfortunately my supplement and book wasn't available, should have them both by next week, YAY

Street Parking We came for loose leaf teas. They were organized in bags hanging on the wall, separated by the feeling that you're going for-- relaxation, energizing, aphrodisiac.. Singular types or blends with signs listing what each promotes.. They have. "VIP membership" you can sign up for with the cashier. It's free and from what I understand you'll get emails about sales and discounts on certain items. You can also purchase crystals, sage, Kratom, CBD products-- holistic type things. The employee that helped us was enthusiastic about what the store offers and shared knowledge and personal experiences with products. He wasn't pushing anything. He provided a nice and informative shopping experience. read more

Everyone with the exception of one person is very friendly and polite. It is always exciting to go here even though I always end up spending way more than I intended to. Not a lot of metaphysical shops like this one that I am aware of, but Very grateful to have this place just a few miles from my home. I can't remember their name, but my favorite employee has cool dangling earrings, short hair, and always has the best recommendations and relevant tips. I get the feeling they are a healer of some kind. The employee that is not as friendly, probably a sweet person but maybe just more introverted, which I totally understand... Anyway, great place for Kratom, adaptogenics, crystals, books, cbd, kava, incense, natural beauty products, and more! read more

I love this store! I was actually here after hours for a special event (which was also amazing and lovely) I appreciate how Chelsea was very knowledgeable of everything in stock. She was able to answer all my questions and give proper recommendations. Upon check out she even clarified with me that the watermelon (? Forgot what it was called) would be on the pricier side and made sure i was okay with the purchase. We decided to total everything before making a decision, and was not offended when I chose not to get it this time. Their set up, atmosphere and layout is absolutely beautiful and homey. I almost didn't want to touch anything to keep the beauty intact. I admire that everything is labeled with the intentions and properties and prices. It's hard to pick only one thing because there are so many lovely things you'll want to take home with you. I left here feeling refreshed, grounded and inspired. Can't wait to come back soon. read more

It actually makes me sad to have to share this review. I am a longtime customer of both locations. The people currently employed in the Oakland store are rude and snobby. And they sold me a candle that will not stay lit. I tried to light it over and over, so now they say that they will not accept a return because "it is used." Not used. I WANT to use it but that's not possible. I buy candles literally everywhere from Walmart to street fairs and have never encountered this problem. And TT will not stand behind their product with a refund or replacement even for a longtime customer. This does not bode well for the quality of their other merchandise much of which is edible, or should be edible. Now I have to consider all of their products suspect in quality. And the employees treated me as if I was a pariah on top of it all. There are many of these types of stores locally. I will shop elsewhere from now on. read more

I've been shopping here for the last 4 months and have always found a cool trinket - last week I went in and found this rose cordial syrup by Portland Syrups and since then all my sparkling water and rosé drinks have been so luxurious! If you love the intense taste it Rose, you'll love this! It says 12 servings but I've had at least 12 pours and have 3/4s of the bottle still - a little goes a long way! read more

Very disappointed in the quality of candles of purchase today and customer service. I paid $26 for a candle that has no scent. The brand of the candle is Among The Flowers . I don't recommend this brand at all. I spoke with manager and she mentioned the return policy is final, however the return policy is not on the receipt or website. The manager said the return policy is by the register. There's a plastic panel and all type of stuff on the counter, who's suppose to see a return policy. Complete rip-off. Small business always want you to have empathy for them, but what about the customer. Customer don't have money to waste. Chelsea, thanks for your response. Why launch a inactive website? Why not just launch a landing page. I'm not upset, I disappointed in the substandard service I received. Regarding your food example, if the food or tea does not taste as advertised I am sending it back and expecting to order something else or a refund. According to the front desk this candle is new and I was the first buyer. While this may be your favorite at home, as a person that loves candles, if you want a nice aromatherapy this is not the brand. Regarding the discount, 50% would have been nice. read more

The perfect place right on the Piedmont strip for all your homeopathic/herbal/crystal/body care/witchy needs. I think the person I'm most drawn to energy wise, is Chelsea. She's full of knowledge about everything in the store and seems like the kind of person thats just genuinely smart af. Honestly wish she was my friend! Entering the store, the owners have put much thought into its flow. It's a complete woodsy feeling right in the middle of a city. There's an airy, light, refreshing energy when you walk in. Many medicinal herbs and remedies adorning the walls amongst beautiful crystals and knick - knacks to make your tarot readings and rituals flow seamlessly. The candles curated here are some of the most unique and same for the other items such as the plentiful crystals, local art, jewels, and anything you can think of to make your sacred space amazing. You can easily go overboard spending $ here, I've dropped $60 on one single crystal. I use it regularly for my readings and love its energy so much. I'd say choose wisely through this treasure chest of amazingness. Excellent vibe, cool stuff in stock. Easy to find a gift for anyone here. read more

We stepped into this little gem as we were walking around window shopping and explained to the young lady working our ailments. She and her co-worker immediately got to work showing us several items and what they were used for. They were incredibly knowledgeable in the many uses of their great selection of inventory. Feeling satisfied with the abundance of info, I made a few selections and we were on our way. Two weeks later, I would like to thank them for the great service and let them know their products were on point and have helped tremendously. Thank you!! read more

Twisted Thistle is by far my favorite herbal store. As someone who struggles with chronic illness, I appreciate going to a store that has several natural remedies. All of the workers are very friendly, knowledgeable, and willing to help. They each remember your name and your regular orders! I forgot the name of the person that helped me, but he was super helpful. I had a transplant surgery end of February (they removed 3 organs) which has made the recovery process very long.. because it was a massive surgery I've been having to take dilaudid for several months now. I wasn't aware that I couldn't just stop taking my meds after being on them for so long because I'd go into a withdrawal.. I learned the hard way and ended up in a withdrawal. I got all the bad symptoms like insomnia, suicidal ideation, anxiety, massive sweating, so much more.. I did my research on ways to help withdrawals and learned about kratom.. after 4 months of reading up about it I finally decided to go for it and give it a try. Kratom blocks the same receptors in your brain as opioids, it sounded too good to be true, but I gave it a try. I didn't take my meds for a day and a half and took Kratom instead. Kratom helped me from falling into a full blown withdrawal -- I couldn't believe it. If you're curious about it I would recommend giving it a try. I'm so glad I stopped in to get some. read more

This place is awesome! First off the service was top notch. The owner knew everything and answered every little thing I asked. He has tremendous knowledge and he is running a business that helps people in many ways lol. The place isn't cluttered and everything is labeled for their purposes. There are different kinds of herbs and they have books that describe what they are. My gf and I purchased the damiana which is used for tea but can be smoked. It helps reduce stress, that extra hit from weed...which I don't do, and other stuff like hangovers and for libido increase LOL. I also enjoyed reading the many books about eastern style medicine and the way people in different countries utilize herbs as alternative medications! I will be coming back and will try different stuff that I'm interested in. Check out their new shop at the Haight in SF! read more

Amazing place, with a beautiful selection of herbs, and crystals can't wait to come back!

Nice merchandise. Friendly staff. Inflexible return policy. I purchased 3 items on 5/27/21. One item that I loved was a polished stone tea light holder. Brought it home. Not one of my 40+ tea lights fit the drilled hole. I called the store, spoke with my sales clerk. She told me they would be happy to issue a credit. I did not change my mind about the item. No buyer's remorse. I wish my tea lights fit. On Thursday 6/10/21 I returned to the store. Three sales people would not credit my card. The sales clerk who helped me originally was not there. I was told that All sales are final. Wasn't expecting that response. This small chain has another location in The Haight. They're not seeing return business from me. read more

Came here looking for kratom and they had multiple strains to pick from. I feel like what we paid for is overpriced especially for the amount we got ($35/28g in store, $31.80/28g online, including shipping), but I don't know what kratom goes for. The different strains of kratom are given their own names, no information about their actual origin/strain was present. The girl working was nice and helpful, she showed us a 2 page informational about the different strains that we could pick from. Many of the products in the store came off as pieces of appropriation because things were renamed and there was a lack of information. The crystals are pretty but we will be looking for a place where more information is given and prices are more affordable. read more

VERY disappointing experience just like a number of other negative reviews here about this store being grossly overpriced for products you can find online. This store repackages without verifiable chain of custody to back up their lofty claims of quality. In my case, I was given the wrong product, and was not honored on a return or even store credit. If you want to be cheated, and the treated condescendingly when trying to resolve the issue-then this is your place. It's dishonest shops like this that cause locals to end up shopping online even though they try to support their own neighborhood businesses. read more

Twisted Thistle is one of my favorite places to stop in the Bay Area. This was my first time coming to the new location in Oakland which is a bit smaller than the Berkeley location. However, it is still just as easy to get lost in! I love the variety of products they offer from the herbal tea selection and candles to an assortment of crystals and CBD products. Seems like there is something for everyone. As soon as you walk into the store there is a sanitization station which is nice. The place smells magical in warm aromas and the energy is grounding.
