What an experience! #Beauty&TheBeastAdventures After having watched a few episodes of Blown Away I was amazed & never imagined I'd get the chance to blow some glass. She surprised me w/the idea & we loved it. The instructors kept us safe and walked us through creating our pieces. She made a bowl & I a vase. If I remember correctly one oven was over 2,000 degrees and the other was around 900 degrees. Hella hot! It's great for a couple or small group, only takes 60-90mins and it goes by fast. I have been wanting to came here to make something for a while now. We decided to take a class on our anniversary. Came in on a Sunday afternoon and there were 5 other people who were attending the class. Emily and Kate were our instructors and they were great. Very knowledgeable, patient and friendly. It is an amazing experience to see how the glass works and to make an item. Emily and Kate showed us how to use the equipment and made an example piece. We all made out pieces one at a time I made a terrarium and had a great time. My husband made a cactus. I am definitely coming back to make a pumpkin and some other items. read more

I took a class here to make a flower vase (bought via Groupon). It was such great hands-on learning! Our instructors Emily and a man whose name I can't remember (sorry!) were fantastic. We came here because I had a Groupon for a glass blowing class for two. The classes fill up fast so it took about 4 months to get one that worked for us. Besides that the only other downside is that the physical location is not in a great part of Oakland. We took an Uber express pool which makes you walk a little bit and it took a while for us to find it. The studio is located in a garage type warehouse. We started late due to a late arrival but we all finished on time. There are 2 staff members that help you the entire time and we had about 8 participants. They give you a demo first and then you work one on one with them to complete your piece of glass. The class is about 3 hours only because everyone has a one on one but really the process was only about 15 minutes. The staff was friendly and the experience was fun. Even though it was mostly them hand holding the whole time, it was probably necessary since we were all beginners. At least we all were able to complete a usable cup afterwards which probably would not have happened with the staff being less involved. They did mention after that they have classes where you can be more independent and do things like gather the glass yourself. The only other downside is the glass isn't ready for a few days so if you do not live near Oakland you have to make another trip to retrieve it. I did notice when I arrived to pick up my piece that there was a sign that they would ship it for $20 which they did not mention during the class that I would have preferred. All in all we had a great time learning/seeing something new. It is a little expensive but I think if given the opportunity we would try another class to make a more intermediate piece. read more

My son's class is here for a school field trip. Their space is large and spacious for two classes to fit into, plus parents. The guys here are great with their demo and explanation. If anything, I think the process of making the bowl that they did was a bit too long for 2nd and 3rd grader's, but for older kids it should be fine. read more

I had so much fun making glass ornaments today! It's my first time and it's the perfect beginner's class. My instructor, Garyn? Daryn? Was great! Hes patient, encouraging and helps you the entire way. It's more like a 1:1 session and he explains the process to each person. There are a couple color choices you get to pick and they're all so beautiful! I'll definitely be on the lookout for another class! You can also have a moment to walk around and look at a few other projects that were done. I would love to do a pumpkin class next time! One feedback I have is I hope the website will include a page to introduce all staff members. Since this was a more 1:1 instructor style, it helps to remember the name and face of the instructor we enjoyed taking the class with. But... I dont think you get to choose instructor when you book the class anyways. Still, it would be nice to include all staff! read more

From start to finish, so much fun! We had initially signed up on Groupon for glass blowing but Covid wouldn't allow it. Bryan and Krista were really good about offering other classes in its place. They had safety precautions in place for Covid as well as being very careful with us beginners around molten glass. Dana and Bryan were patient and knowledgeable instructors. We signed up for glass sculpting. Husband chose to make a flower. Mine, a pumpkin. Great experience! We plan on going back when the glass blowing can resume. What a fun class...something i've been wanting to try for awhile and finally got to do! Josh was our instructor for the hour and he was really great, enthusiastic and patient which made the class more enjoyable. This can get quite intimidating with all the instructions, the thought of dealing with molten glass, and extremely hot objects but Josh guided all the students (6 total) with their projects which was a relief! Its hard to remember all the things you need to do in a short period of time and just remembered trembling with each step since i ended up being the first one after he gave a demo...but after all done, it was actually an awesome experience... Place is located in the industrial area of West Oakland and cool to see some finished pieces. You won't get to take home your art work that day but after 2 as it cools slowly...ended up making a solid shaped egg paperweight. A great intro class and will look into other in the future to unleash my creativity! read more

Came here yesterday with the bf as a 3 year anniversary gift. He had bought a Groupon deal for Slow Burn back in November but March was the earliest time he could find an appointment for us to go, which gives you an idea of how popular this place is. We were taking the Wine and Beer pint class. I love that you're your own artist here, and can mix and match different colors of glass to get the final design you want. Our two teachers were awesome at what they did - they took the time to explain everything and made sure each of us were comfortable while making our own piece. Everything is hands on and 1:1, so you feel completely confident going through the process that you're in good hands. The only point of complaint is that because we go through the course 1:1, there is a lot of time that you are just hanging around, watching the others in your class go through making their piece. If we had known we could have just left after completing our portion, we would have done so. Instead, we waited another 30+ minutes for the rest of the class to finish only to have the instructors say "Ok, that's it guys, thanks for coming!" All in all, still a great experience and I can't wait to come back to pick up my final piece! read more

Right through the door you felt welcome. The young lady that greeted us, did so with a smile. We took our number and waited our turn. We were 3, and were joined by 2 more. Our mentor is a master glass blower. He told us to call him "G". With a brief but thorough introduction, he had us blowing glass. You are never alone. They teach you simply and easily every step of the way. He is very calm and has a nice personality that is welcoming to put us at ease. His assistant, also a very nice young lady (I think a student), alternated with him to assist you as he prepared you for the next step. The finished product. Amazing. We each made a Christmas ornament. Perfection. Wonderful. I have made in the past a sho glass, a wine glass, and next will be a 20oz beer glass. I see a theme here. Holiday parties right? From beginning to end we were never alone, and each step of the process was not over explained, but perfectly explained. It's worth the adventure. read more

I just took the one hour ornament making class, got a deal on it on Groupon. It was definitely very introductory so if you are somewhat apprehensive about trying this and think you'll just end up with a misshapen blob, this is the class for you. The instructors do a lot of the work, explaining it as they go, and you just have to help out a little. You mostly do the blowing of the air into the ornament. They make sure you end up with a symmetrical piece. I think this would be great for a family outing too (kids have to be at least 12). It's just a little taste of glass blowing and you can take other classes later if you like it which sound like they are more hands on. I was impressed with the level of organization at the shop. It is now in Richmond, lucky for me I live 5 minutes away. But it's not hard to find, near the Marina Bay exit on 580. It's a very industrial area, but not a dangerous area. You have to pick up what you made a few days later, as it has to cool slowly (anneal) so it doesn't break easily later. Their brochure says they also offer private parties, a minimum of 6, maximum of 50. read more
