I was looking around at local jewelry shops to have a custom engagement ring made and was finding the process very stressful and full of information that contradicted itself. After visiting half a dozen other jewelry shops I walked into Jewels on Lake and I knew that I was in the right hands, and that this is the man who I want to design and make my ring. From the moment I walked in, Sam made me feel at home, he was very confident, professional, and completely transparent about his process from start to finish. Jewels on Lake was recommended by a friend of mine. I wanted to get a necklace for my wife's Christmas present. I went to visit Sam, I explained what I needed and he said to give him a couple days for a proof. By the end of the next day he texted a proof of the design. Already I loved the design. I gave him the go ahead to finish the work. Within a week he called me back letting me know the necklace is ready to be picked up. The necklace was so simple to do. I bought a diamond necklace from tjmaxx & wanted to see if the chain and diamonds were real. I also was wondering if my other diamond items were real. I called first thing Saturday morning & the man on the line said I could come in to get all checked out. I parked nearby in the structure. The man buzzed me in quickly. Local business that recently got robbed and I feel terrible because they are such nice people. It was a busy day when I stopped in but I needed to get my fiancé's engagement ring cleaned before I proposed. They were so nice and cleaned it right away. They let me sit with them and we chatted for a bit. Then when it came down to pay they didn't charge me and said good luck. Before going into the review, I would like to provide some background about myself, which will give context to how my experience went. I'm a person who has NEVER bought jewelry myself (let alone an engagement ring). I was completely clueless of the process of picking out items, designing, or even ordering a piece. At the time, I didn't know much about the difference between metal types, color differences, or overall diamonds. Sam, the owner, however, made the entire process so seamless and easy (even for a guy who never bought jewelry before). From the very beginning, Sam never rushed me and always took the time to answer all my endless questions. We went from looking at numerous diamonds, holding them for me to view them in person, picking the right one out, to designing the ring. During this time, I was traveling out of town frequently, and Sam had to hold diamonds until I was back in town, which was never a problem. I also asked Sam if I was able to view the ring during the different stages of the build process, and he didn't even hesitate when he said I could. I asked endless questions about the build process and even suggested we change some design features of the ring. Even after design changes, Sam was always easy and attentive to details. During the process, Sam gave me estimated timeline dates and always beat them. The ring turned out amazing and my now fiancee loves it! She said it exceeded her expectation of what her ring would look like! I would highly encourage anyone to give Sam a visit if they are thinking about buying jewelry, especially an engagement ring. My fiancé thought he lost his wedding ring...well, kinda, sorta. He had it in his lap while sitting in the car and stood up. That was a Friday. On Monday, he was back at work and walked out to greet a co-worker who had just backed in to a parking space. He looked down and saw what was left of his ring, which was no longer round, cracked in the back and missing a diamond. The jewelry store where we purchased it was non-responsive about the repair - tried emailing the repair department twice and their customer service person who was copied said to call them bc they are busy. Well if they are too busy to look at a picture on an email and tell me if it's fixable, how are they going to have time to fix it?! Hmmm? The wedding was in 21 days! Sam to the rescue! I sent him an online Request For Quote and he responded almost immediately! I took the ring in, he gave me his diagnosis and fee. Although he thought it was only repairable to the high 80s, he was able to get it back to about 98% - it was miraculous! My fiancé was even surprised about how great it looked and felt. He said that he couldn't tell anything ever happened to it. Sam also fixed the ring in record time and had it back to us - he even offered to stay late to accommodate us if we could not get there during normal hours. I stopped by Jewels on Lake because I had a bunch of charms with open/weak jump rings that needed replacing and had some questions about other jewelry pieces I had. Sam straightened out the jump rings that were still in working order so that they were secure and added a bigger jump ring to one of the charms. He did not want to let me pay him for his time as he insisted the fixes were simple but I finally convinced him to let me pay him for the gold jump ring he added to one of my charms because he spent a good amount of time helping me with everything. I will definitely return to have him shorten a necklace I have that is too long. :) read more

My husband and I visited Jewels on Lake several times for watch repairs and battery replacements, and Sam was always so welcoming and friendly. So, when I needed a custom ring made, I immediately chose Sam for the job. I had an old star sapphire ring, that never quite fit right; it lived in my jewelry box. Recently, my mom passed her star sapphire earrings down to me. I asked Sam if he could take the stones from the earrings, and the stone from my ring, and make me a custom ring. He guaranteed me he would make me a beautiful ring. He even offered to ship it to my new home, since we were moving out of the area. The ring took quite a journey with USPS, but Sam took the time to track it, stay in touch with the postal service, and keep me updated the whole time. The ring arrived today, and it is even more lovely than I imagined it would be. It fits perfectly, too! My Mom is thrilled that I was able to repurpose her earrings, and give them new life. He fixed my broken bead necklace -- and added knots so that my granddaughter won't lose all the beads if she breaks it -- and replaced some broken fasteners with strong magnets, so I don't have to fuss with tiny clips. Went in to get my ring sized, and one of the gentleman behind the counter was very short and rude, and told me that my ring in fact was not real gold, and that he could not adjust it, he told me that I have a fake ring, or that is most likely silver and gold plated, which is quite an insult considering a Family jeweler made it and I know exactly what it's made of. He didn't even test the metal. He just glared at it quickly and rejected me. Then as I was asking him questions, he proceeded to answer the ringing phone and start talking with whoever was on the other end, laughing and carrying on. The gentleman next to him just stared at me. The whole time didn't get up out of his chair. I politely laughed and said it sounds like your phone conversation is much more important than your paying customer that is in your store.
