I was drawn in by the positive reviews, but my experience was awful -- bait-and-switch and outright shady behavior. I called and was quoted a price for my gold over the phone, and I went in minutes after that call -- yet in person they offered me a much lower number. When I brought up the phone quote they said prices "change daily," even though I called the same day and came right over. I asked for an acid test and he agreed -- but when I asked him to compare it to his 14k gold he "unknowingly" used an 18k gold ring instead. I asked to see the ring and it was labeled 18k -- he acted like it was an accident when I caught him using a higher-purity gold ring for his test with a 10 karat acid. Once his mistake was pointed out he apologized, then essentially told me to leave by refusing to buy my gold. I took the exact pieces to a jeweler down the street with no problems: they confirmed it was 14k and gave me a great price. Bottom line -- they baited me with a phone quote, lowballed me in person, and tried sneaky tricks. Spend your money somewhere else. read more

I love that they are a mom and pop business and not some big corporation. You know who you are dealing with. They carefully tested all the gold for purity and we were paid on the spot. They are transparent about gold prices on their website. Keep in mind that gold is very volatile at the moment so the price changes minute by minute. We may have been able to get a little bit more money if we went to the jewelry district downtown but it would have been a lot more stressful, we wouldn't know who we were dealing with and if they were honest. Plus we would have had to pay $20-$25 for parking. All in all we had a great experience and will continue to go to Darbini when the need arises. read more

The gentleman was incredibly helpful and honest about resizing my ring one and a half sizes down, which I really appreciated. Everything was explained clearly with no pressure at all. When I walked in and mentioned that my grandfather was a jeweler, the owner responded with a completely inappropriate comment asking if he had died young. After that, when we discussed resizing a ring, the owner said it would be much more expensive because it was silver, which was untrue. Then, even though I was quoted $40 over the phone, he tried to charge me $50. When I asked for the original price, he refused at first, only begrudgingly settling on $45 after another customer intervened. I turned away by an extremely rude lady for taking a picture of there store hours when they were closed so I could return with my fiance. I have wanted a diamond tennis bracelet for many years. I popped into Darbini, am I glad I did! Oscar and his mother were there and assisted me. Oscar gave me world class service and his mom was so delightful. I left without buying anything. No high pressure sales tactics, just good honest service. I did some more research and 2 months later I decided to go back. I had some rings that I hadn't worn in a few years, so I decided to see what price they would give me to put as a credit towards the bracelet. Adam, Oscar's' son, was professional and also had great customer service! He was extremely fair and honest. I decided to go ahead and make the deal happen. After the credit he gave me for my rings, I had to put only a fraction of what I would have spent. The bracelet was just a little too small, Oscar said that he would only need to add 3 diamonds to make it the perfect size. After looking through the loop at each stone, I didn't like 3 of the diamonds. Oscar was perfectly ok replacing them. He had to make a mold of the gold setting to add the extra length. I just picked up my bracelet. I am ecstatic about the way it turned out. The added links looks identical to all the others. The stone were replaced and the additional diamonds are fabulous! If you need a jeweler for anything, you need to go to Darbini and see Oscar. Like me, you'll be very happy you did. He is now my jeweler! Thanks Oscar and family for everything!!! read more

I came here to get my engagement ring resized from a 5.5 to 4.25. Not only can you see and feel the ridges from where the ring was cut, but it was also not resized correctly. It's obviously that they took gold from the band on the bottom and lazily molded it back together without resizing the rest of the ring. The width of the ring is still 5.5 and doesn't fit. I put another ring from home over top that is a 5.5 and it's the same width (see photos). They charged me $125 for this. Don't waste your time/money here ladies. read more

I am really disappointed in the jewelry repair I have received on two separate pieces. One was a stone replacement that didn't last long. The other was a necklace charm repair that was done differently than I requested, but I was told it was strong and the best choice so in the end I accepted it. Now, less than a year later, the gold applied is already showing wear and I am in need of getting it repaired, yet again. I would bring both items back to be fixed correctly but I now doubt the quality of work so I essentially out the money I spent and will have to take the same two items to a totally different jeweler.
