Another thing I hate is that you have to buy multiple items of the same thing to get their sale prices. For example, my husband wanted a bag of Lay's potato chips. They were $4.99 for one bag, or $10 for 5 bags. So obviously I bought 5 bags, and now have to store 4 bags in my small kitchen pantry for months. We go here for convenience and because Kris and Gus are just the sweetest. Sometimes you just want to have a zero contact trip because you're in a rush, and self checkout is fine. But when you have kids who enjoy social interactions (and stickers), these are the friendliest humans. They brighten our day. They're probably the best thing about this Jewel. Groceries are fine. Not as much selection as an ethnic grocery store, but it's definitely convenient. It's always clean inside--we usually see them cleaning and restocking the shelves. And customer service has always been helpful if there's ever been a mischarge. We like the car shopping carts for their double seats so both kids can ride and pretend to drive. Makes the trip more fun for them. read more

Next they're charging nearly $5 dollars per 8oz for jewel brand cheese and $10.00 for a 'Home Run-inn' frozen pizza. Please stop supporting this greedy price gouging corporation. I'm concerned that the design of Jewel-Osco's digital coupon system appears intentionally confusing. The interface is not user-friendly, and the process of clipping and redeeming coupons is overly complicated. I was not given credit for a few products after following arduous "clipping" process. I was just there looking at frozen turkeys which were not frozen. It's a week or so before Thanksgiving and their turkeys are thawed. You are not supposed to thaw meat, freeze it again and sell it. I waited for several minutes in self check out waiting for assistance with a coupon, the registers were empty and the employees there were just seemingly unwilling or too oblivious to help. Honestly, coming here and going through the self-checkout or doing a grocery pick up are the only options. The cashiers are all so rude for no reason. They're all scoff-y and have an attitude anytime they're expected to preform at their job. Most recently I had an issue with Virginia who scanned my groceries and had an issue when I asked about a digital coupon, as if coupons aren't apart of being a cashier; and if I, the customer, have any doing in how your company chooses to do coupons. I then was waiting for her to scan my groceries before entering in a phone number for the digital deals & she snarkily asked if I did it, I said no, cause I was waiting and was met with even more of an attitude. I understand I am younger than you, but that does not give you a right to speak down to me and treat me poorly. I will not tolerate being disrespected every time I spend money here. Recently the service has been terrible. Jewel is normally good. I only go there because it's free. You get conflicting stories some days I can get my prescription two days early depending on who you talk to and then another month when I go a day early even though there was 31 days in the previous month so it's not even a day early they tell me it's early and I have to sit there and count days for them for them to understand. Why should I have to be stressed out because they can't count 30 days. On top of repetitive phone calls ringing completely through to the answering machine. I went in there after I was told an hour and a half I went in there two hours later they told me another hour and a half then I came back and they said it a third time I waited over five hours when they said it was going to be ready in an hour waste my time going there twice. This morning I went shopping with my daughter. It was a beautiful day! After we are done shopping, we went to check out with the lady who I have never seen at checkout before and asked for help about one digital coupon that I could not find in the app. She did not know what to do and repeatedly say what she knew that is not accurate. I told her to take that item out because I decided I do not want it anymore. She did not do what I requested, but called the manager to look at the digital coupon on my phone. He found it and I said " Thank you". He left. I talked to the lady that I am sorry that I could not find the coupon by myself earlier. She said "You have to find the it before you come here!!!!" Well, it's that time of year again. That time where I'll forgo savings and fresh produce from other local markets for little paper stamps to stick to my Jewel-Osco Monopoly game board. I know I'm not going to win anything, but somehow I've managed to brainwash myself into truly believing that $5,000 ATV or Camping Package is mine and I've been putting in time like a motherf*cker tearing apart those tiny game pieces and sticking them to my game board. Heck, I even got into a legit argument with my SO when I found out he'd bought stuff from our local Jewel, been given "a sh*t ton" of game pieces, then threw them out in the parking lot garbage can. I could've killed him. If I don't win the million this year, I know exactly where I'm placing the blame. Anyway, this Jewel is about as 'meh' as any Jewel. Now that Dominick's is gone (good riddance), I feel like Jewel has gotten even lazier. They know that if you're shopping there it's because you can't afford Whole Foods and you live too far from a Mariano's for it to be convenient, so it seems they just kind of given up and let themselves go. This location is pretty shabby and the parking lot is just awful. It's tiny and severely lacking in cart return stables. The set up makes it seem cramped and they don't seem to carry the regular brands that my home-base Jewel carries. Prices aren't great, produce is... well, why would you bother when there's a Valli Produce just up the road where you'll pay a quarter of the Jewel prices. The staff are friendly but they're tough with those Monopoly pieces. Don't even try to sweet talk them - they ain't hearin' it. It's pretty obvious I don't love this store, but in an attempt to make the Monopoly man my bitch, I will continue to foolishly patronize. read more

Came here mid-day on a weekday during the coronavirus pandemic. Staff blocking nearly every aisle, no masks, no gloves, not only not respecting the 6 foot social distancing guidelines, but getting into my intimate space so they could stock candy bars while I was checking out. I have been living in Palatine for over 27 years and have never been disappointed with the friendly helpful customer service at the Plum Grove Jewel. Inside the store, it's a sad dinosaur despite the store being "remodeled." Reminds me of some stores in the city. Attracts quite a few drugged out and drunk people at night. Not the cleanest. But on repeated occasions since Covid, staff don't wear their masks properly, they are not enforcing mandates so customers are not wearing masks, The wipes for the carts are always empty, and the handle dispensers are empty. This is a very old Jewel that was recently updated. We went in for a few items - a surgical strike you might say. While we didn't really have the chance to look around, I was impressed. Inside store is clean but feels very cramped (hardly any room to navigate carts in produce section); parking lot is cramped, tough to get in/out. Produce decent quality but overpriced..apples $1.99/lb, lemons always overpriced at $1.29/ea, onions $1.49/lb, sdls cucumber $1.99/ea, tomatoes $2.99/lb.Bakery and deli are so so. Meat section is boring. The main reason to shop here is location -other stores too far away. This store needs to remodel, preferably expand with more room, otherwise I will choose other grocery stores given the opportunity. read more

This Jewel is extremely small and outdated. They don't carry a lot of the products I'm looking for, and despite being "recently remodeled" they remain exactly the same as they have always been. The produce section is a small maze where you often get stuck behind other shoppers just trying to make it to the bananas, and the bakery is inconsistent with the quality of their goods. They removed all the self checkout lines so if you're just going in for a few items you're forced to stand in one of the 3 lines that are open. They need some serious expansion at this location. read more

Just moved down the street from this place, and I have to say it doesn't compare to the selection of my old jewel I used to frequent, but the store is incredibly clean and well-kept and has an impressive bakery section. The bare strip 1970s fluorescent lighting at this location is overbearing and is extremely ugly. Jewel was starting to look so contemporary when Supervalu owned them and once Albertsons took over, they started removing the track lights from produce (replaced with ugly 1970s strip lighting), removing the convenient self checkouts and even changed then clean Jewel Osco logo with an awkward sloppy circle around the name. After all of these changes, I am definitely a Marianos shopper now. I don't know how you could possibly take a store from looking like a contemporary store of the future (not this Jewel as much as the one Palos or the newer stores in general ) and turn it into the store of the past with ugly outdated lighting. Produce just doesn't look good under fluorescent lighting. In the days of LED, track lighting is the only way to go to get true color rendition on the fruits and vegetables.
