First, I shop at Aldi a lot. While they don't carry everything you would need, they do have a broad selection of items. Their store brand merchandise is good, and who doesn't like looking at their "aisle of shame." This time, it was very crowded when I was there. They were out of tortillas, which I found surprising, but they had everything else I went in there for. I mentioned it was crowded - there were two checkout lines open and each had at least six or seven people waiting. I know they don't have big staffs there, but I was disappointed that no one came to help the two cashiers. It caused everyone to wait a long time to check out of the store. read more

Aldi is a great place to shop for fresh fruits and vegetables. The produce is consistently good quality and very affordable compared to other stores. The selection may not be as vast, but the value for money is excellent. Definitely worth a visit for your grocery essentials. But today I went specifically for tomatoes. There are no tomatoes. This is a perfect case study on how automation kills businesses. Not only have they cut jobs out of the store they've managed to make a relatively mediocre retail experience even worse. During the pandemic the store seemed clean well stocked and safe. Everyone wore masks and stayed away from each other. Now, this store has become a poorly stocked dirty and hurried location. Nobody is social distancing. People are coughing and sneezing in the aisles. This is surely to be a CCDPH COVID-19 hot spot. I'll start at the facade and work my way into the store. The facade is in good condition albeit some litter in the parking lot, hardly their fault, or is it, who knows who cares. As soon as you walk through the entry doors the world turns from nice wide open blue skies to a drab warehouse like entryway that is outright filthy, I wouldn't touch those cart wipes, bring your own. People crowd the entry exit area and nobody bothers to alternate exit entry, like proper people do in Britain and especially Japan, in Japanese grocery stores (even here in America) people alternate between exiting and entering in the vestibule to maintain social distancing. The number of mask wearers in an Asian store is far higher, sorry not sorry but Americans are plain as day unhygienic slobs who don't care for their environment or their health and this store is a perfect case study of that. Moving in from the vestibule you immediately see dirty floors and a severely understaffed store. Good luck finding any help in the aisles, if you don't know where a product is have fun walking amongst the crowds of unknown COVID-19 status individuals not wearing a mask. I looked, of all the people me and my partner were the only people double masked per CDC guidelines for high risk areas and Omicron. The terrible doesn't end there, something as simple as crackers was out of stock on oyster crackers, how can a grocery be out of stock on something so simple and so small to warehouse. All sorts of other items were stock out status as well. Unlike other grocers who put signs up in the position of the item with its name and barcode and another location to try Aldi just leaves bare shelf space or worse leaves rotting produce for everyone to see in the case of the tomato's. Toss those out you fools, I'm pretty sure Cook County Department of Public Health is going to throw a fit when they see this review and rightfully so. This is why other grocers are going to lengths to ensure stock out products have a stock out sign placed and no rotting or dangerous product left behind. Aldi just doesn't care. This isn't a nice store to be in by any measure, it's loud it's uncomfortable and it's grown ugly, are you really telling me you can't afford with all the money you made off of killing jobs a damned drop ceiling to cover up the horrendously ugly warehouse atmosphere? Making it brighter inside would also help too, in some areas it's rather dim and those with visual impairments may have trouble. Those with anxiety disorders and who want a hygienic shopping experience will be outright horrified in here as was I. By the time we were in the second aisle I literally said to my mate "Well coming here was a bloody mistake." It still somehow gets worse! The aisles used to have clear one way laminar flow but nah, who needs one way aisle flow when you can have sick or well people who t f knows randomly meandering about clogging up the flow and making it hard to move around. Even worse some people seem to have the nerve to want to walk closely to masked people almost like a harassment technique. UNMASKED LADY WITH THE UNMASKED BABY WHO SIDESWIPED ME. I'M TALKING TO YOU! Not sure if you were trying to get at my non existent wallet or if you're just being an ass to be an ass. You could have gone around me, you could have used the whole other damn aisle but instead not once but twice did you brush up my sides, BOTH SIDES. Clearly an attempt to mug me. Nice try, I don't have a wallet and if you touch my phone you'll be meeting law enforcement techniques in combat and restraint before the actual cops come. So that's the end of the horror show you think, nope, it's not. The checkout area was disorganized at best nobody knew which lanes to go to for which self checkouts. The only check line that had laminar proper flow was the single cashier running the whole store. If I could go to 0 stars I would. But they earn the single star on product prices. Aldi has become everything a grocery store shouldn't be. Dirty, filled with criminals, and unpleasant. Visiting this dump and visiting Cook County Jail are oddly not too dissimilar. If that's not alarming enough for you to go to another location or can the Aldi name entirely I applaud you for your bravery on entering such a high risk environment just to save a dollar or two. As for me and my family, we will be shopping at Aldi a lot less. read more

I was there shopping this morning and mentioned to the cashier that the bread I was looking for was not available. I showed him a picture of it and he said we have it and he went and picked one up and brought it to me! It turned out it was located near the door and not in the bread aisle! So nice of him to do that! Since I am a senior, I appreciate the little things like being helpful and polite! Aldi's is the best! Best Aldi in the NW burbs. Newer, cleaner, with excellent selection of unusual stock. Must be the Aldi for upscale shoppers because what other one even has 4-5 versions of cauliflower crust pizza? Or conventional and organic versions of multiple types of fruits and vegetables? Look forward to trying the parmesan-custed tilapia and I loved the stuffed portobello mushrooms, breaded asparagus spears and large avocados @.79 each! When people think of good quality food at low prices -- it surprises me that they think of Trader Joe's for more natural items, Sam's Club for bulk, or Jewel for most normal items. Aldi is one of the underappreciated stores where you're really getting amazing value for the dollar (even more so than at Walmart). Despite prices that undercut the generic brand elsewhere, products are consistently good and sometimes even excellent -- rivaling the quality of items twice or thrice the cost from a major name brand. This store is especially nice with bright lights, well maintained floor and shelves, wide aisles, attractive looking interior, and wide selection of items. Fabulous grocery store and my favorite Aldi in the surrounding burbs! I can find a lot of gluten free stuff, and even white wine that is lower in calories. They carry some very healthy brands and have a small but very adequate meat section. I check Aldi's nearly every week to see what they have. read more

I LOVE this aldi! It is my go to grocery store. Before I moved to Palatine, I always perceived aldi as a run down version of Costco. The Aldi's that i went to in my hometown didn't help with that judgement! I still remember the first time I walked in to this specific aldi and was blown away by it. It is cleaner and better maintained than the Palatine Jewel! Their produce is always well stocked and has wonderful freshness. They are bananas are a hit and miss but the rest are always wonderful. It never is too busy there and my shopping trips all at all last about 10 minutes. They are seldom if ever out of stock on anything I purchase. The employees are so nice as well! read more

It took a long time for Aldi to rise from being dark dirty stores with pallets of second tier white label canned goods dropped on the floor and cashiers who had to memorize all the prices. It took longer for ALdi to become my preferred staples store. Aldi has been my favorite grocery chain for more than a decade. This location was convenient. Since the regional remodeling started a year or so ago, it was the best of the 6 in my immediate area for access and convenience. Now it's become the worst. I don't know what is happening with Aldi management, but they seem to have forgotten some of the basics of retail grocery sales. They still have very high quality products, and the prices are competitive, but product availability, convenience and paying for the purchase have declined more than at other grocery chains. Since the beginning of 2021, ths location has seen the handicapped spaces reduced by half, replaced by curbside pickup spots. The cart ramp to the parking lot was closed for three weeks for a makeover that didn't make it more useable. The week before Thanksgiving all the cashier lanes were removed and replaced with self service checkout kiosks with awkward single cart layout, arcane menus and erratic scanners. I'm hoping that the bugs will get fixed, but I'm not counting on it happening until sometime after Christmas. Until then I'll be limiting my purchases to Aldi stores that still have cashiers. If they all go full self-service, then my mother and wife won't be willing to shop at Aldi. If they send me, I'll abandon all unscannable items and buy produce at another merchant. read more

I am not even going to lie, but I may have prejudged Aldi's in the past. I popped in here on a whim as I was in the area running a few other errands. Not expecting much, I ran in to grab a few avocados and peppers to fill my craving for a vegan quesadilla for lunch and, boy, was I pleasantly surprised! The store was extremely clean, and who can beat the prices here?? 69 cents for an avocado?! I thought it was a joke!! And don't even get me started on the quality! Half of the avos are still in my fridge and I visited a week ago (most avos don't even last two days from the more expensive grocery stores). AND they have alcohol?! Who knew? (Apparently not me, and I have been missing out for the last 28 years of my life). Wasn't a huge fan of there only being one line open, but I'm not going to complain since I spent under $5 for three peppers and 4 avocados. Will definitely be adding Aldi to my weekly grocery store list. read more

Saw I was with an infant with the baby stroller trying to unload the basket here she goes given me attitude. I went to the Aldi's on Dundee Rd in Palatine yesterday Sept 29, 2021 at 9:00 AM when they opened in order to buy their split chicken breast that was on sale for $1.00 because they had "limited supplies". They had split chicken at a price of $1.69, but none at $1.00. The manager Mark said they hadn't had the split chicken delivered yet. I told him that the split chicken was in the store, but was mislabeled at $1.69. He refused to relabel the chicken nor offer me a "rain check" because they do not do "rain checks" like other stores. I would call this blaming the victim or in legal terms fraud. I will be reporting Aldi's to the State's Attorney's Office today. read more

This is an awesome location. I love going here because it's clean and the staff are very friendly. Aldi is surprisingly health and budget friendly if you choose the right foods and I've become a frequent visitor here over the last year. This Aldi just opened up in Palatine this week so I decided to try it out. It is in the former Staples location. I had been to a couple other Aldi locations so I had a bit of an idea of what to expect. I went on a Friday, mid day and overall it was fairly busy. For the cart, you must put in a quarter to unlock it. They have carts outside and inside. I recommend getting the cart inside and then dropping it off outside to get your quarter back when you are done. Inside the store it is pretty big. For the selection, they have a little bit of everything, some common brands, but a lot of store brand products. Organization is a little random as you will find items from different categories next to each other on the shelves. For prices, I found many items to be about the same as other stores but some items were less. If you are a frugal shopper, you will be able to find some good deals here. Checkout had 2 cashiers and moved faster than expected. They do not do the bagging, so the items go right back into your cart and then you can bag them yourself with a shelf located at the end of the checkout area. I recommend bringing some bags, but they also have bags there for purchase. Overall I have yet to try out all the products, but I may go back again if the quality is up to par with the other brands. I recommend checking it out if you are looking for low prices and don't mind the cost saving practices such as quarter for cart and bagging your own groceries. read more

I do not like leaving bad review...but what an awful experience I had there. Went to the self - checkout to purchase some Gala apples, but for some reason they wouldn't ring up. One of the store employees (middle aged bald guy) came over to the check out, and said "they are not ringing up because we don't sell them apples loose...we only sell them pre-packaged, so you must have opened up a bag." I told him, that I absolutely DID NOT do that. "There's a whole bin full of loose apples in the produce area, which is where I found them". I asked him if he wanted to walk over there with me so that I could show him. He grimaced at me in said, "I'll just ring them up". I had four small apples, and he tried to charge me $8.63. I just looked at him, and said... "forget it. I'll just walk down to Jewel", which I did. What an attitude! From now on, I will go to Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, or Jewel, for all my grocery shopping. read more

Much nicer than the existing Aldi stores in the area. Wider aisles and a larger selection of almost every item. If you can, avoid shopping on weekends when it gets rather crazy inside. Nice staff but like all the Aldi stores, they have to do the stocking of shelves right when you're in the aisle they are restocking. read more

Attended the Grand Opening of the new ALDI store in Palatine, IL. The first thing you notice, if you are a seasoned ALDI shopper is that the "look" of the store is different, and my I say improved, compared to other legacy ALDI stores around the area. This store sports a new "updated" look that one employee told me was going to soon be the standard for other area stores as well. It has more of a "traditional" grocery store feel to it rather than being like the mini-warehouse style store that many ALDI stores seem to be. That being said, I wondered if the "new look" would also mean new higher prices? Again, a store employee told me that would not be the case. He said ALDI does not plan to increase prices to cover the "new look". That is a relief, since one of the hallmarks of ALDI has always been reasonable low prices for good quality products. If you are a value shopper, then you simply can't do better than ALDI for consistently low / competitive prices. This store is brightly lit inside and everything inside and out sparkled - as you would expect with a new store. The shopping experience on this day was atypical because of the "Grand Opening", so I won't critique it other than to say it was probably about as good as could be expected given the huge number of shoppers who came to see and shop the new store. Shoppers were given a free re-usable shopping bag, ALDI key chain, and a helium balloon when entering. The first 100 shoppers also got an envelope with a "prize" - mine was a $10 gift certificate. There was also a $5 off with $30 purchase coupon available in the flyer. I would definitely recommend this store for the following reasons: - New, clean, updated store - Good competitive prices - Lots of parking - Convenient to other stores (Target, Hobby Lobby, etc.) - Easy location to get to (not far from 53, Rand Rd, Hick Rd, on Dundee Rd.) - Mostly good quality items (many ALDI-brand products, some brand name items too) - Smaller store footprint makes getting in & out easier than larger or mega-stores - Product quality guarantee (no hassle returns/exchanges at register if not satisfied) - Self service grocery cart (25-cents deposit on cart handle) means that no carts are left in the parking lot to ding your car. Why don't all stores do this?! - Well stocked (usually) - Offer beer and wine selections - Cash or Credit Cons: - Limited product/brand selection - many items are ALDI-brand and most items do not offer a choice of brands (ie one brand of Pancake Mix (Aldi) - but, it's a good one!) - Coupons not accepted (actually a plus, in terms of getting checked out quicker) - Some items come and go, due to seasonality or limited in-store runs - Unlikely to change product offerings based on customer input - No "express" or "cash only" lane for quick checkouts - Limited checkers who double as stockers can result in no one up front when you go to checkout (have seen this at other locations) - Skeleton staffing My Rating ... It's good to see a decent grocery store with decent prices come in to the area. Mariano's is a joke the way they price things. Salad bar is usually between $11 and $14 dollars for one person! Aldi on the other hand offers good quality food at a much better price point. I appreciate the German connection wih Aldi and the imported gourmet foods we usually find here. The produce is good and fresh and the chocolate and wine are quite nice for the price. I wish they could open a checkout lane a bit faster when the line starts to get long. What's the point of having all that nice food in a nice store if you won't even let your nice customers pay for it? You want to make money? You should open several checkout lines so people can hand you all that money even faster!!! read more

ALDI is my go to shopping location. I go to several different ALDIs but this one is my favorite. I love everything about ALDIs except one thing. Their Wednesday meat specials are very frustrating. Every time I've gone to buy a meat special on Wednesday it's all gone no matter how early I go. Today I set my alarm and I will be outside the door when they open so I can hopefully get today's special on Rack of Lamb. Other than the meat specials issue I love ALDI and always go there first. And because ALDIs is so busy the food is always fresh. And as for people complaining about the quarter for a cart, you get your quarter back. It doesn't cost a quarter, you're putting a quarter in the slot, get a cart, and the quarter is returned to you when you put back the cart. No carts to be blown into your car and no employees needed to round up the cart. Also the cart storage area is covered so no wet carts. What's the problem? read more
