I wish I had more photos. I come to Jesus restaurant quite often, they have dedicated and very loyal weekly regulars that come for lunch. I love their fish plates on Fridays. I also love their chicken fried chicken, but pictured below is the chile rellano with cheese that I did double beans with instead of rice. I love their salsa heated up and chips to start out with. I'm in love with their salsa. The best salsa I've had in Fort Worth and probably the best tacos I've had in awhile. Husband got the regular tacos and I got the brisket tacos. The regular ones were flavorful. Husband got them with meat and cheese, but usually comes with lettuce, tomato.The brisket tacos weren't bad. A little on the dry side, but it comes with bbq sauce. Ordered the BBQ meat plate: big slices of brisket, crinkle fries, and a forgettabe side salad: the meat was tasty, a little on the dry side. They serve a warm sauce on the side, which is different but complimented the drier pieces of brisket well. Chips and salsa was an interesting table starter, so I guess this is Mex first, BBQ second: big chunks of fresh tomatoes and peppers, served cold with a nice heat that sneaks up on you, spicy good. Everytime I come to visit my Dad in Texas, this is our #1 stop. I know they were closed the last couple of times I came down, I guess from construction but now they are open again and Im so glad I got to come before heading back home. When you walk in, you can choose where you want to sit. I noticed they have new menus but same items. I got the chicken mexican dinner as always which is 3 chicken enchiladas with a chili sauce and lots of cheese served with rice and beans. It was soo good. My dad got the heuvos rancheros which is 3 eggs covered in rancheros sauce served with rice, beans and tortillas. He seemed to enjoy it. My daughter ordered the fried chicken dinner, which the waitress said there was a 25-30 minute wait. We were ok with that because we knew it was gonna be freshly made. 3 pieces of dark meat chicken, which was 2 legs and a thigh. Served with crinkle cut fries and a small salad, a sliced tomato and topped with thousand island dressing which tastes really good. Of course the chips and hot sauce was great as always. It was served a little warmer than usually though but still good. It was a pretty busy day and with just the 1 waitress she didnt come around as much but we didn't really need anything but drink refills but we didn't mind waiting. Cant wait to come back! read more

I would genuinely like to thank Jesus BBQ. And this is why. I was born in Detroit, MI. And in Michigan, my favorite restaurant was a small joint called "Juan Hacienda." They had the best beef enchiladas in the world. The best. I have never found a plate of enchiladas that was comparable. After a day of Rahr, I pursuaded my cohort to try this place. And when I looked at the menu, something said "Beef enchiladas." It was literally the menu... So I ordered them. *slow, sappy violin music begins to play. A warm, fuzzy filter appears* My first bite, I had a moment of being transported back to my childhood. The taste, the texture...it was the same. The same as what I remember when I was a child. Imagine the scene in "Ratatouille" where Anton Ego tries Linguini's ratatouille for the first time. The world around me did not matter anymore. I remembered being a child, sitting in a chair where my feet dangled. I remembered being in a dimly lit room, where they used Christmas lights as part of the decor. I remembered the smell of warm tortilla chips filling the air. I remembered my parents eating beside me as I scooped mouthful after mouthful of rice and beef into my mouth. I remembered...being happy. Thank you Jesus BBQ. For bringing a back of my childhood back. Thank you for giving me a piece of my life that I had forgotten about. A real gem that I somehow knew nothing about until last year even though it has been in business at this location for 50 years. A testament to the family that is now on its third generation operating here; I hope they own the real estate which is escalating rapidly here. The founder is 89 and still cooks, his granddaughter was running the front on this visit. The place is small but inviting in an authentic manner; Big TexMex chains spend millions to affect this look. The menu is the story of Texas food all in one place: TexMex, barbecue, fried chicken and CFS. It's all good. On this visit we got stuck in traffic. And arrived about 20 minutes prior to closing. They welcomed us in anyway. Large glasses of very good sweet tea came to us with a basket of thin housemade chips and a primeval salsa. The salsa is well flavored with tomatoes and chili's but it's extremely challenging to eat with the fragile chips due to its extreme chunkiness. I'd like it puréed with some cilantro. We both ordered Mexican Dinner #1. Cheese enchiladas, a crispy beef taco, rice and beans. Unsaid on the menu is that each plate comes with a big dollop of housemade fresh guacamole, a great lagniappe that would cost five bucks extra at some crappy high Dallas hipster joint. We also ordered brisket tacos, and would have ordered a half fried chicken but they had just sold the last order. This is a masterful plate of authentic TexMex food that hasn't been adulterated by corporate kitchens or accountants, CalMex or Yankified tastes, or foodie hipsters. A huge hot platter arrived for each of us. The crispy taco is a fragile thin tortilla shell filled with beef, cheddar cheese, lettuce and tomatoes. This is where I'd like a smoother hot sauce. It's nearly perfect. The cheese enchiladas are a dream: tender tortillas, rolled around smooth yellow cheese, covered in chili con carne gravy, and topped with a generous load of cheddar. Flavorful refried beans, homemade rice, and the guacamole were outstanding. Next time I'll ask for some chopped onion or the pico to add a little texture and flavor. The brisket tacos are some of the best I've had. Chopped brisket, chunked to show its proper bark and smokering,is loaded into small flour tortillas with a chinky pico heavy with jalapeño is heavy with smoke. A little of barbecue sauce drizzled on top made these just outstanding. So many Mexican restaurants now have brisket tacos that are dreadful with bland watery roast beef. These are the benchmark for the fishing north Texas in my opinion. The grandfather made the days fried pies so we took a peach, a cherry, and a lemon home for dessert. These are fantastic all were great but the cherry we enjoyed best. The crust needs just a touch of salt but they were wonderful. Do t settle for bad chain TexMex. We have some great local chains but this is a Fort Worth treasure. Going back for the fried chicken soon. read more

What can I say other than simple, plain, darn goog Tex-Mex. Great chips and salsa. Super beef enchiladas. I've ordered some brisket sandwiches to take home. (I'll have to fill you in later on those). One minor draw back is that they use frozen fries. However the waitress was honest and forthcoming when asked. Which I've had some that weren't as honest. Very nice family cafe, unassuming but good taste. Central is the Mexican authentic to regional México. Daily plate lunch specials come with good quantity of salad, mashed potatoes from scratch(not at all wetted paste) and daily veggie: currently CFC (chicken fried chicken) Tuesday, Enchiladas pair Wed, CFS Thursday. Occasional meatloaf offered. All plates cover the plate well and is ready quickly. Jesus has updated just prior to Covid, staff still wears masks. They are always smiling and friendly. Seldom all tables and booths full, but seating flows for multiple table seating mealtime without any rush pressure. There are lots of local pickup "to go call ins" that come through. Usually street parking nearby or across street, and behind building when gate beside is open. Come try and you will find an authentic homey place. Fort Worth's South Main Street has been dilapidated for half a century but is now in the midst of vigorous urban renewal - this authentic hole in the wall sits smack in the middle of that situation - waking in, you might think it's 1975 instead of 2015 - for my initial visit, I ordered the hard shell chicken tacos with the obligatory rice, refried beans, and chips with salsa - the chicken was pristine white/breast meat, chunky and perfect - the tomatoes were extremely fresh - the salsa was fresh - the clientele can be very rustic but also can include suited business execs - parking is dicey but this place is worth a visit! read more

I believe I had to ask for no meat on the tostados dinner but it was piled with lettuce and cheese and tomatos. Salsa is great as well as the fried pies. It's an old diner tucked away between Vandervoorts dairy and a men's dormitory Appearances don't scare me, I like Parton's, Summers, Mama E's,Massey's (RIP Massey's) and Good Luck Drive in and they all scare the neon and umbrella drink crowd off with their looks. Anyway, on to the food! BBQ and Tex Mex who could ask for more! Tried the brisket on my first visit three good sized slices of brisket, a little dry (as noted by others) but pretty dang good I thought. Next thing to try was the cheese enchiladas holy smokes they were awesome! Cheese enchiladas, covered in chili, and more cheese on top! With the usual beans and rice. You also get chips and sauce with every meal watch the sauce it can be spicy! Tried the CFS on the next trip, meh it was OK nothing special a little tough and bland but decent. My co-worker got the tostadas it was three tostadas that covered all the plate. She said they were good to. I haven't tried anything else but they have burgers, nachos, fried chicken, sandwiches and breakfast. A hole in the wall place on Main, south of downtown Fort Worth that's REAL easy to miss, with all the construction going on down there. As far as I could tell, everything seemed to be made on sight, even the salsa that had a huge chunk of a jalapeno in it! hahaha I forget what they called it, but I had a beef enchilada lunch that came with rice, beans, and a taco. Initially, the rice & beans didn't look that appealing and I was planning to not like 'em. Before all was said & done, I had complete cleaned my plate of everything, save a little bit of the lettuce that fell out of the taco. :) I would definitely go back. Heck, I may go back today! :) OH, yeah! I saw NO BBQ the day I was there. The smoker looked like it hadn't been used in a while. All the naming said "Jesus Family Restaurant." I put an update in to Yelp, but they haven't updated anything yet. read more
