My sponsor selected this restaurant for two reasons, the blending of Puerto Rican into the food and the listing of the Mexican style soups. At the start of the meal, we were each provided with a bowl tasty salsa to go with our chips. For entrees we had Flauta Dinner, served with guacamole, sour cream, rice and beans (selected double rice no beans). My Dad's neighbor had an upcoming birthday. He said, he was celebrating here. He invited me, then I invited my boyfriend. We meet at El Puerto. It's across town for me but, was so easy to find. Most of the tables were full. We received our Salsa and Chips with the quickness but, the Hot Sauce tasted like ketchup! My boyfriend said, you know how good a restaurant is going to be, by their Hot Sauce. Boy, was he right. Lol. I ordered the Chicken Enchiladas. They large portion of Sour Cream Sauce and were packed with semi dry Chicken. Rice and beans were ok, nothing special. The Birthday Boy said, his Fajitas were dry and was undwelmed on his Birthday. He said, he liked the Fajita House better. My Boyfriend ordered Shrimp Cocktail w Octopus. He seemed to be underwelmed too. So, you see the pattern of underwelmingness occurring. Lol. Whenever I am working in the area and need lunch this is my go to. It is nothing fancy bit the food is authentic, the staff freindly and the prices reasonable. It gets busy during the lunch rush but you can usually find a table . I noticed they have bar with drinks as well. If you are into bougie take a pass on this place. The food was amazing. However, I was with my family when we ate there. My nephew forgot his wallet on the table. Managers did nothing about their staff taking $200 dollars out of the wallet. Ay first they tried to say they didn't find the wallet, but once he said he was calling law enforcement, the wallet magically appeared. Came here on a recommendation from a friend after craving a shrimp cocktail. The waitress was very prompt and spoke English as well. The chips and salsa were good (the salsa could have been spicier but that's just my picky self!) The horchata was delicious and refreshing. My friend ordered the Pescado Empanizado (breaded fish), it looked so crispy and juicy and had so much meat on it! My coctel de camaron (shrimp cocktail) was AMAZING. I ordered the large because I knew I would be able to finish it, but I had such a hard time finishing it, it was a lot! There was at least 30 shrimp (I may be exaggerating but I may not) total, with at least 3 shrimp with every spoonful! What a mistake giving this place a try. I honestly don't know how it has good reviews. There was nothing special nor delicious about anything we tried. The cocktails had no veggies but just onion the shrimp used was the pre cooked shrimp that made it soak up the juice making the shrimp soggy like. It was not at all good. The beans looked as if they had been reheated multiple times. The restaurant itself lacked some good decor because it seemed.l as if they just threw whatever on. I love their enchiladas and seafood dishes (except the fish soup- does not have enough seafood) but the rest of the items on the menu are great! Reasonable prices too. Wow new chef on board. The food was YUMMY! I had cheese enchiladas and they were soooo perfectly oooey, gooey. My husband had the seafood soup and said it was delicious. He loves seafood so he was in heaven. The prices were not as cheap as a typical hole in the wall Mexican place but we weren't left feeling cheated as the potions are HUGE. Didn't have any alcohol but they had great happy hour prices posted (Monday- Friday, 3-7pm) like $1.75 domestics, $2.50 imports & $3 margaritas. We will definitely be back. read more

Ate here a while back. We thought when we walked in that it would be really good and authentic, since it was mostly Hispanics (always a good sign in Mexi restaurants) and almost full around 600pm. Meh....the food wasn't that great, and I just wasn't impressed. It's in a funkier part of town, but that doesn't bother us when we are on our quest for authentic, delicious food. However, when we got back to my car (which was less than a year old, someone had KEYED the side of it). So, no, we won't go back. I was craving shrimp cocktail and picked this place based on the pictures. We ordered a variety of food off the menu: fried fish (whole), ceviche, quesadilla, nachos and the shrimp cocktail. Everything was tasty except the shrimp cocktail it was very bland and the crackers were stale. The waitress was not very attentive and seemed bothered by taking our order. Saw a family of ten at a table but, they couldn't seat us, a party of 8 (one toddler, one baby) together, sat us at two separate tables with a big pole i between us. My family and I have been coming here for a couple of years now. The food is what you might find at any other tex -mex seafood place, but the quality is consistent and the place is maintained alright. We usually stick to our favorites when ordering here: ceviche to share as an app, then for entrees we go for caldo de camaron, fried catfish, or fried catfish filet. The ceviche is one of the best I've had around FW - fish morsels are cut at just the right size, marinated well. Hard to get fried catfish or filet wrong, so it's a safe bet for anyone who doesn't want to try for the fish soup or anything octopus or oysters. Although the shrimp cocktail is pretty good here as well (only had the vuelve a la vida cocktail once, but it had plenty seafare if you're into that). The chicken breast is alright as well, but this is a seafood place, so I would suggest going else for that or fajitas (never had those here though). I imagine the quesadillas, tacos, and other non seafood dishes are average as well, but again, I normally stick the seafood. Small bar seating if you're looking to just have a drink, though there's a couple of tvs, usually with sports on. This place is one of the better establishments around this area and it doesn't seem like they're going away soon. read more

Excellent Mexican food at an even better price. The lunch is 5$ a person! I usually get cheese enchiladas which is a very generous portion. The salsa is fresh and smooth, not chunky (not the best I have ever had). The chips are hot and fresh. Drink specials are 3$ margaritas for happy hour and they were yummy. Dinner is a little pricey compared to lunch at 10$ person, but you get so much food it is worth it. They have a very large menu with some traditional looking things. One woman got a whole fried fish that took up about half her table for two! Everyone who is at the restaurant seems to get one of their many variations of ceviche so it must be good. I would recommend to anyone who want a typical Mexican meal at a good price. Of note, the atmosphere is a little dingy. Looks like an old Mexican night club that was converted. Maybe the previous reviewer was there on an "off" day, because I had a good experience at El Puerto with the service and food. I had the tacos de cameron (shrimp tacos) - the special ingredient is garlic. Yum! It comes with avocado slices, another favorite of mine. The plate came with spanish rice, but i was so full i didn't get around to eating any of it. The salsa they bring is pretty good, not the best, but it has a good flavor. Service was good, we got drink refills before we needed them and the waitress was very pleasant. My mom got the chicken fajita nachos - they definitely give you a lot of chicken on them, so get a half order for normal appetites. This place must sustain itself with just the regular clientelle , because they had no interest in making new customers feel at home; like most mama and papa restaurants I have been to. I am all about supporting local non chain restaurants, the food is generally fresher and the people are for the most part are happy to see new faces, in the hopes of turning them into regulars. To make a long story short. I work for a major corporation on Mercantile Blvd in North FTW. A select few of us were asked to venture out and patronize local restaurants, in the hopes of finding new catering for events and also local non chain restaurants to host team building meetings and luncheons. Especially when we have out of town visitors looking for regional cuisine and authentic Mexican Restaurants. We were given a business credit card and asked to provide a review the day after, so it can be included in the weekly "In the loop" newsletter; over 4000 employees in Fort Worth receive the newsletter by company email. For the first time, we reviewed more than just the food. The blatant disrespect and inconsideration was very obvious, we left 80% of our food behind only after 15 minutes. Lets begin with the food. We placed our orders , it was plated and delivered in maybe 10 minutes. My fellow colleague ordered the $10 beef and chicken fajita plate. This doesn't come on a sizzling skillet , but rather on a long plate. It was obviously in the warmer as were the store bough flour tortillas. The meat and chicken was tough and rubbery and the onions and peppers were practically disintigrated. I ordered the shrimp and fries as an appetizer for $10. I received 6 butterflied medium sized shrimp, (menu said large shrimp) which were very thin shriveled up and completely dry and rubbery. I showed my waitress my food and I asked if they are made fresh here, because they taste like they have been in a warmer. She replied, "that is how our shrimp tastes, if I were to get you some more they will be exactly the same", and she walked off. The shrimp are not breaded or battered in house, they are frozen and cooked in the oven. I have tasted better shrimp from the frozen food isle in Kroger for $5.99. I was very disapointed in the frozen fries as well, that came with the shrimp order. We all know Bennigans, Fridays and Applebees has frozen shrimp and fries aswell, but believe me, it is 10 times better than this place. We could not take the smerks , the stares , the whispers , we had to leave . My colleague who happens to be African American female dressed in a business attire felt this was racially motivated. We were obviously not regulars and perhaps not who they prefer to wait on. Our bill came out to $31 dollars and we left our 18% gratuity. I only tip more if the service and food was up to par. As a former waiter , even with bad service i always tip the standard 18%. I have to admit, this is the worst Mexican restaurant I have ever been to. Everything from service to food was really great here. Relaxed atmosphere with attentive and friendly wait staff. The food was delicious. Had a beef flour enchilada, a chicken flour enchilada with sour cream sauce. They were perfectly cooked and amazingly not soggy like some flour enchiladas are. Rice was very well seasoned with a nice garlic flavor. Service was so fast! Meal was very reasonably priced. We will definitely go back to try more! This is the first Mexican restaurant I have really enjoyed since moving back to the DFW area 5 years ago. Happy to find a great spot like this. read more
