Really casual spot.Food came out quickly. The meats are perfect. The platter comes with meat, pita, veggies, a good amount of rice, and hummus. Really good portion size- next time I might split one entree. Service was good. Ambiance was really casual. came on a friday afternoon--not busy at all and food came out fast. we got three lunch specials--assortment of meats, salad, pita bread, and rice. was very impressed with the portion size for the price of $7.99 (though most of the plate is rice vs actual meat) i would have given four stars but i did not realize you have to pay extra for sauce and the meat (and falafel) was pretty dry, especially without any hummus or tzatziki. i would maybe come back and try their sandwiches or just pay the extra for sauce since i think it would make a noticeable difference. read more

Where to begin? I have wanted to try this place since moving up here. After seeing the reviews, I thought this place was going to be a huge hit, but it was just a big disappointment. We ordered the combination feast, gyro plate, 4 falafels, and a small hummus. The gyro plate with fries was terrible. First off, there was barely any meat and the meat that was on top of the soggy fries was burnt. See the picture in this post. I understand not many people probably order this, but remove it from the menu if you're going to serve this quality of food. The tzatziki sauce was basically plain sour cream. Don't order the gyro plate. The falafels were just okay. I have had way better elsewhere. The combination plate was just okay too. Nothing to brag about. Again, small, chintzy portions of meat. Also, it didn't come with any garlic sauce. Most places give you one or two, but this place just likes to nickle and dime their customers. The hummus was no different than any that you can buy at your local grocery store. I am really regretting spending $38 on this food. I don't see what the hype is with this place. For us, we wouldn't recommend and we will not be returning. Response to "business manager"- learn some proper etiquette when replying to honest reviews. I clearly did not state "cripsy" and there is big difference between burnt and crispy. An order came in after mine and it was a combo feast and chicken schwarma, so nice try. For a great Middle Eastern dinner, Jerusalem Cafe is the spot. The menu is is large and in charge and doesn't hurt the wallet. I have been coming here for since they opened the Lombard spot and love it. It is a family owned business, and they are beyond friendly. They go out of their way to make sure you have what you need and them some. Their portions are large and the flavors of their meats are fantastic. The chicken kabob platter has wonderful flavors and aromas as soon as it hits your senses. Served over a bed of rice and sautéed vegetables, paired with some shatta (hot sauce) and tahina, you're going to be full and happy. The shish kabob plate is my favorite. You get large pieces of steak kabobs and they melt in your mouth. I love their Jerusalem Salad (Arabic Salad with Tahini) and Tabbouleh. The most important item you have to get here is the falafel. Homemade fresh, they are one of my favorite items to get here. Order it in a sandwich or as a side to your platter dinner, they are worth it. read more

I ordered from the Jerusalem Cafe through Uber Eats and had a disappointing experience. From the Uber menu I ordered the Vegetarian Falafel Plate, and while there is not any further description beyond the picture, the picture shows 3 falafel, 2-3 grape leaves, tabbouleh, babaganosh, and humuus. When I received my order it was 6 falafel on a bed of rice with a tiny bit of salad in the middle (not tabbouleh). When I called the manager to express my disappointment he made it sound like it was Uber's fault for not putting a description (no explanation for why the picture that went with the item I ordered had nothing to do with what I received). It seems like a restaurant whould be aware of their Uber menu and honor it --- and correct it if it's not what they plan to offer. read more

Been to Jerusalem Cafe a couple of times over the years and it's never disappointed! We usually order the combination feast and chicken shawarma platter and have plenty for leftovers, they are very generous with sizes. Food is very fresh and I really like their grilled vegetables on the side! Service is great, everyone we've encountered is nice. The restaurant is self service (grab your own drink and utensils), but they bring your food to your table. read more

Food was very disappointing, ordered the combo, chicken was thin strips with no seasoning and didn't taste grilled, no flavor, falafel was cold and treated old, nof crispy or fluffy. The rice was minute rice, not authentic at all. Hummus, tasted like it was made without tahini and maybe came from a can. There were some cold unseasoned mixed vegetables that looked/tasted like they were the frozen kind out of a sack. Very good Mediterranean joint in the suburbs. It's across from the Mariano's on Roosevelt in what I think is still technically Lombard. It's a no frills place, but I'm not really worried about ambiance if the food is great and the prices are reasonable. Jerusalem Cafe ticks both of these boxes. I ordered the chicken kabob tender plate to share with a friend because we were there for lunch. Im glad we shared, because this was a large portion and I know I wouldn't have been able to eat it alone. I wouldn't mind ordering for dinner sometime because if there were leftovers it would make a great lunch the next day. The meal came with two slices of pita bread (one pita sliced in two), rice pilaf, and some vegetables. The chicken was cooked perfectly and seasoned lightly but so good. There's also a little cart near the register where you can grab some sauces to go along with it. My favorite was he green jalapeño sauce; it made a great meal even better when some spice was added. (The item we ordered was not very spicy at all, which isn't a bad thing, but it was nice we could spice it up.) Service was very good. The young boy (13 maybe? Idk, I can't tell ages) who helped me is undoubtedly helping at the family business and will be running the place for sure if he ever wants to--he took my order, brought out our food, helped me with the spice cart, and was cleaning up as we left. He thanked us for coming as we were leaving, too. I don't make it out to this area terribly often, but if I'm out here for a movie or something will definitely keep this place in mind as a stop for dinner. Imagine my delight to learn there was a Jerusalem Cafe in Lombard that delivers to my new house. My experience with Middle Eastern food is that it is hit or miss. At Jerusalem Cafe, everything is good. We always get falafel-avocado sandwiches ( extra avocado) and several salads -- Jerusalem salad, fatoush. The stuffed grape leaves are top-notch, too. I went to Jerusalem Cafe because of the good reviews. I do not agree with them. I got the schwarma and was disappointed!! I have schwarma a lot from different places and this was not good. The meat was tough and had very little taste. The rice was just yellow, also without much taste. I also treated myself to a baklava mix and they tasted old and soggy like it had been sitting for days. Not crispy and sweet like it should be. The person at the register also made me feel unwelcome. There is a table next to the counter (for extra distance, ARE WE STILL DOING THIS!!!) with a plastic tablecloth (which needed wiping) and the card reader and I was just told to "insert your card". Decided to try this one out. Have driven past a million times -used grub hub on a day we didn't want to go get food to bring home. Food was delivered on time and even a little earlier than planned. I love my loyalty points from another middle eastern restaurant and am in love with their fluffy pitas but they were under remodel. We all enjoyed the falafels, just a little different from the other places. I couldn't put my finger on the spice but know I will easily order another falafel sandwich if I am in that area and am hungry. The dressings and roasted veggies on my option were also a little different than I've had before in a good way. The pitas were standard pitas, humas was okay. The stuffed grape leaves were moist and delish. My family really liked the beef and chicken Shawarma and their rice. My husband put tahini on it and sprinkled some of the lentil soup on it but wished I would have gotten the tzatziki. read more

Pita Inn has similar stuff but their stuff can feel commercial and bland, but not Jerusalem Cafe. You know great food when each ingredient is made with love. From the rice to pita to hummus, meats and sauces, they are all fresh and delicious.
