We had a flood in the basement from one of the heaviest rain storm recently in April this year. The water was up to about 4 to 5 inches at one point. I've heard a lot of other basement flooding before but never experienced myself. It was a complete surprise because there was never a flood before that I know of. It turned out it was mostly if not completely from next door disconnected downspout. The whole incident was just terrible, and it was not even something I could prevent if I wanted to. On my about 12th five-gallon bucket to dump the water into the toilet on the 1st floor, my back was basically telling me to stop. I knew I needed help.
I asked around and searched the internet far and wide. I came up with three companies who specialize in restoring flooded spaces. I knew I had to act fast before any possible mold issue occurred since all the drywall in the unfinished basement were affected. Scheduled all of them on the same day one after the other so that a decision could be made quickly.
The representative from one of the three companies showed up and proceeded to use his moisture meter touching all the walls and floors. This was after I told him the basement was flooded with up to 4 to 5 inches of water. After a prolonged discussion of what he could do in order to save me some money, which I do appreciate, I was not sure if he could really do what I needed to be done. But I kept an open mind.
The representative from another company called finally and told me they could come by soon if I still wanted them to. This was after I called them at least a couple of times to try and schedule an appointment without success because they had claimed they were very busy. I was willing to give them a try because they are one of the more known company in this field. They came and looked at the basement. Pretty standard stuff. Definitely better condition than most other situations they'd seen. They even offered to start right away but had to finish 2nd part of the clean up in a few days. I was skeptical. But when I heard him telling me the price that was way way higher than what I anticipated and when comparing to the other two companies, I knew I could not afford their service.
Ben from Jersey Pro was actually my very first appointment of the day. I almost missed him because I hung up on him when I got his voice mail when calling him the first time. He called me back to my surprise. We started talking and I knew he knows what he is talking about. On the day of the appointment, he showed up on time. We entered the basement which is not very big but pretty empty. He knew exactly what he would need to do right away. He gave me an estimate and I thanked him. On hindsight, I still believe his price was fair. We agreed for him to take on my job at the end of the day after I had the other two appointments.
On the day of the clean up, they showed up ahead of time standing outside ready to work. I was very impressed by that because most contractors are late usually. Paper was taped from front door to the basement door to protect the wood floor. I had asked if they could cut a little higher on the drywall because I did not want to take any chances with possible mold issue later on. He agreed with no problem. The whole process lasted a few hours. They carried wet cut out drywall in bags, wet carpet that was covering 90% of the basement also in bags, and the affected door trims, up the stairs probably 30 to 50 times. I was also impressed how courteous they all are. In the end, they wiped and cleaned up the path not just inside but the outside as well. Afterward, fans and dehumidifier were left running to get rid of the remaining moisture. The basement was bone dried when they picked the machines up after three days.
I could not believe there is a positive after experiencing the worst flood in my life. But Ben and his teams from Jersey Pro was such a pleasant experience that I do not mind spending my time to write this positive review for them. And I don't write review often, 4 including this one so far in years. To conclude, they simply are hard working people trying to make a living, just like myself. Spend some time to speak to at least three different companies if you ever need restoration work after a flood, I won't be surprised if you end up with the same choice I have made.
