We tried a chopped plate and a coarse-chopped plate, both with red slaw and fries. We also received a small tray of excellent hushpuppies that were hot and obviously right out of the fryer. My dining companion received an even larger serving of the coarse chopped pork. I got to try a bite, but I preferred the chopped pork. The red slaw was finely chopped and very tasty. It was somewhat tame compared to other variations of red slaw that definitely have a little kick, like at Whispering Pines in Albemarle. The crinkle-cut fries were not quite hot and moderately crispy but were upstaged by the rest of the meal. It's all counter service at Henry James, but everyone was very friendly and genuinely trying to provide great customer service. When I look at the quality of the food, the large portions, and the incredibly reasonable prices, Henry James Bar B Que is a winner. Highly recommended!

We'll, A couple weeks after that day, I wanted to really try this place's barbeque out. MISTAKE!!!!!! DO NOT, AND I REPEAT ***DO NOT*** MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE I DID BY CHOOSING HENRY JAMES!!! I'M SERIOUS!!!! And here's why: I ordered the barbeque (pulled pork) plate for 13 dollars, and it came with fries, coleslaw, and hushpuppies. I ordered takeout, and it was my mom who picked up my order, so I can't speak on the service but who gives a damn about service when the food is as good as jellied cat anal canal. I got it in my nice white bag, and the food smelled very pleasant and appetizing. I had been waiting all week to try this place, and the other alternative to the money I chose to spent on Henry James slop 'barbeque', is something that I now regret not doing. The smell of the awaiting food was the 2ND best thing I could say about this meal. I opened up the black takeout box, and was a little disappointed right off the bat. I saw the 'barbeque' in the corner of the plate looking all bland and ugly. I first ate a fry, and it was not great by any means, it was borderline soggy, heavily undersalted. But it was decent enough that I was forced to use it to get down the disgusting main event. THE DISGUISTING MAIN EVENT: the pulled pork. I NEVER KNEW PULLED PORK COULD BE SO DISGUSTING!!!!! It was like they deliberately chose not to season it, and then let it soak in water. WATER! when you take a bite, your mouth GUSHES WITH LUKEWARM WATER!!! IT is SO unnapetizing!!! I added the vinegar barbeque sauce to hope it would make it even a little easier to get down, because I paid 13 dollars for this. The sauce just made it MORE soggy, and the taste of the sauce wasn't even good enough to save the flavors of the pork. Maybe just MAYBE on a bun it would be better, to sop up the water. But at that point you might as well go somewhere else. I have better recommendations for barbeque pulled pork. I tried the slaw next, which was a vinegar based slaw. It was fine. Not great. I wouldn't even say good. Last, I tasted the hushpuppies. The hush puppies were crispy on the outside, and has a nice sweet n savory flavor. The best thing I could say about this barbecue combo was the huspuppies. Overall? 2/10. NOT WORTH 13 DOLLARS! If you're craving NC barbeque pulled pork, I have a good suggestion. GO TO COOK OUT! DON'T GIVE HENRY JAMES A TRY, UNLESS YOU DELIBERATELY WANT BAD FOOD! THERE IS NOTHING WORTH GOING TO THIS PLACE FOR! oh, did I mention I got banana pudding too! IT TASTED LIKE FLUFFY WATER!!!
