First time customer driving through from the beach. Not too many dining options between asheboro and rockingham. However I found this gem of a restaurant shortly off the interstate. First impression wasn't top notch since the parking situation can be tricky. If you park by the building your going to get boxed in. Other that that I had a wonderful dining experience. Very clean restaurant and super friendly staff. Food was extremely tasty and made of fresh ingredients. Absolute criminals! I ordered chicken soup for lunch (she failed to tell me there were 2 sizes), she gave me the LARGE size to the tune of $10.75! I also got chips and salsa, $1.75 - since when do you pay for chips and salsa? And a Lg tea - $3.75. They automatically chage 10% tip for To Go orders - is this legal? AND a .64 "service fee"! Lunch for one cost me $20 today! I will not be going back! If I had not been on a call to my husband, I would have made her refund my money and not gotten lunch at all! So BEWARE! Delicious food, can be pricey, best to get it to go because you will have to get your waitress attention for a refill on your drink, they don't come around checking and offering you a refill on your drink. Just a heads up, they do charge a gratuity tip fee for every transaction, whether you are eating there or taking it to go. Always check to make sure you have everything you ordered before you leave. Food is good, but service is horrible. Staff are rude and they charge a mandatory tip and service charge, without asking, in all orders, including to-go orders. I understand the service charge, to offset card fees, but tipping should be the choice of the customer, based on the quality of the service. read more

After seeing all the five star reviews and my neighbors raving about this place we finally gave it a try. If I was judging it on atmosphere I would definitely say that it is very authentic. If on portions, wow, what a deal. If on service, the best. The only problem is I like it to be good food along with those other things. I'll start with the chips. They were plentiful, warm and tasteless. The salsa was decent but certainly nothing special. My entree was a beef enchilada, chile relleno, beans and rice. Lets start with the good. The rice, although salty was quite good if not really good and the refried beans were nice as well. Next was the enchilada. Man this just was a huge disappointment. The beef was watery and flavorless ground hamburger meat inside a tortilla. covered in a red sauce that was heated straight out of a can. It was horrible. The chile relleno was no better. There was nothing wrong with the chile pepper itself other than it was under cooked and you really need a sharp steak knife to get through it. It was a nice tasting pepper. But relleno is a cheese stuffed chile most everywhere. Mine was filled with the same flavorless watery beef and topped with a small amount of cheese. This is where I differ on authentic. This one is authentic, true, but not tasty. The more contemporary version even in Mexico is the cheese stuffed one. And if you are keeping to authentic then the ten versions of Fajitas might need to be removed. But I'm not the authentic police I just want good food. This was not. Sorry, but there is a small nearby competitor that I will go to where the food is both authentic and really, really good. read more

We dropped in to this eatery in the late afternoon. What a treasure! I had Alambre--beef (or chicken) with ham, bacon, onion, sweet peppers and cheese with 2 tortillas. It comes with rice, but I elected to forgo the carbs. It was prepped nicely, seasoned well and served quickly. Since there's little choice in this tiny town, having the prime location in sight of the one stop-light is wise. The server was cheerful and efficient. There's domestic and imported beers from Mexico to quench one's thirst and go well with the authentic fare. I'm thrilled I can get South of the Border food prepared beautifully in my hometown. Very good food! Not very good service recently lots of stuck up girls. Very good priced as well. For instance last time we ordered from there I was on hold on the phone trying to call in a order for like 20 mins! When she finally came back to the phone and took my order told me it would be 30-40 mins. I went in later and they still did not have my food ready; had to wait another 20 mins! Would like to say this is the first time this has happened but lots of family eat there and this seems to be happening more and more. read more
