Ok Blake's I love you however I'm over the CASH ONLY BS! We went to the beach on Wednesday from High point. We could have stopped at Biscuitville on the way ( there are two very close to our house) but no I said let's go to Blake's for a good sit down breakfast. We arrive and my wife sits down. I go to the cash machine because I know it's cash only and I only have $25 bucks cash on me. Well their damn ATM isn't working! I had my wife try her card and same thing some kind of error code. So we order light because we have limited funds on us. Two sausage biscuits. They are hard and terrible. Get over the damn cash only crap! It's 2026! There are many options to pay now. Needless to say, I won't be stopping again unless I have plenty of cash on me. We blew right by on Saturday on the way home because of the same reason! It's stupid not to take cards. read more

The food was classic diner comfort food in large portions. Tasty, not too salty but well seasoned. The service was prompt, friendly, and accurate. What keeps me from 5 stars is ambiance: the booths/chairs and tables needed a bit of attention, the interior needs some modernization/ refurbishment, especially the restrooms. For an establishment 3/4 of a century old, there's an opportunity to decorate the interior with late 1940s motifs... recommend investment in updating the facility with retro mid-20th century decor. I saw multiple comments about locals and catering to the locals. I think those judgments are misplaced. My party was not local, and this was our first visit. I witnessed equal care and attention by the wait staff for all. The fact that locals come and have a relationship with the staff is a testament to the impact and quality of food and service. Besides, no one should expect first name service when it's your first visit. If you're hungry for good food and good service, stop by. read more

We arrived around 1:00 for an afternoon noon meal it was kind of busy with seat yourself a lot of the tables needed bussed but it was fine The waitress arrived and took our drink orders and dropped the menus the drinks came and we placed an order , then the wait begins when you have ordered a simple burger and the special of the day one would think it would be quick , not so much and when it finally came it was warm at best with cold fries. Ambiance was very nice. Breakfast was good, service was minimal. Our server never came back to offer coffee refills. when we checked out, we were overcharged. I asked the young girl to check her math. She said it was correct without really looking at the check again. When back on the road, figured something was wrong. It's a nice family owned, local business, and a great place to eat a home cooked meal. Friendly staff, Looks small when you walk in, but there is a big room in the back for bigger groups to eat. It is a bit pricey at times, depending on what you order. It is well worth the extra money spent. Quality food at a fair price. read more

We've eaten here more than a few times over the years, usually with a satisfactory ending, but not on our latest visit, and it most certainly will be our last visit. When we walked in, two rather sloppily dressed waitresses were talking loudly with a customer at the counter. We found a clean table, several desperately needed cleaning, and seated ourselves. We waited, and they continued talking, and talking - finally I got up and walked over to where they kept the menus, and got us a couple. Finally, the loudest of the 2 waitress came over, and ask what we'd like to drink, and we ordered tea. She then proceeded to clean two tables before heading back to fix the tea! Finally the tea arrived and we placed our orders - Fried Chicken for Alice, Fried Pork Chops for me. The food was out in just over 5 minutes, obviously not cooked to order! The Fried Chicken, which we'd really enjoyed before was horrible - don't know what day it was cooked, but it was several days before we got there. The pork chop was not bad, but also had not been cooked to order, reheated most likely! The Mac & Cheese was probably Kraft's, the Limas and Corn lacked freshness and seasoning. The mashed potatoes and gravy were the best part of the meal. We did end the meal on a better note, finishing with Cherry Ice Cream, made down the road at Chappell's. The food was generally bad, the service was every bit its equal. The place was very noisy, and half way though our meal, a clown came out of the kitchen and dropped a tray of silverware - they all cackled loudly about it for 5 minutes. We found this place by accident while traveling. Huge breakfast at a super affordable price. Great southern breakfast which we don't have where we live. We had to double check the bill as we thought she made a mistake and didn't charge us enough. It was way to cheap for the amount of food we got that's for sure. Hubby and I stopped in for a quick bite as we were traveling through the area. We found Blake's to be a quaint, home cooking, "mom & pop" type restaurant. The decor was plain and not fancy, but was clean and was fitting for a small town. The menu had a variety of offerings with very reasonable prices. There were special entrees and side dishes, which changed for each day of the week. Hubby ordered a taco salad. I had fried chicken with sides of tomatoes/okra and potato salad. The food was tasty and reflected local southern favorites. The chicken was piping hot, with a nice crispy crust. The potato salad was homemade. The warm tomato and okra dish was something new to me, but I really enjoyed it. My husband said that the taco salad was pretty standard, but the meat was seasoned well and he had plenty to eat. The portions weren't huge, but definitely enough to satisfy. Service was prompt. If you are looking for a tasty, inexpensive meal with a quiet homey atmosphere, this is the place! read more

Just about the only thing that redeemed this mediocre meal for our group of six was our sweet waitress. Upon entering, we seated ourselves and were greeted promptly by our waitress. As we perused the menu, she chimed in and notified us that they were currently out of field peas and only had a few more servings of baked apples. We settled on our food choices, and I was quick to order some baked apples before they ran out as well. Several of our party were planning on a soup and sandwich and were told upon ordering that they were out of soup as well. Last minute second choices were made, and all seemed to be smooth sailing from there until the waitress returned several minutes later to notify us that one of the chef's specials of lasagna that was ordered was also no longer available. Another last minute alternative choice was made, and as we would quickly discover, this was a theme of our experience. Our meals were brought out. Some looked better than others (highlights being philly chicken sandwich and chicken salad sandwich), but none appeared unappetizing. As the waitress appeared with my entree and side, she very politely apologized when informing me that they were ~ also ~ out of the baked apples and explained that the kitchen hadn't notified her earlier. I was disappointed but hoped to make things easy on her by agreeing to an additional order of the side she was able to bring to subsitute. She reappeared a few minutes later to relay what had become predictable news, they were out of that side now, too! As there really wasn't anything else that sounded appetizing with my meal, I passed on the second side, and I was pleasantly surprised when she returned a little while later with a dessert tray and offered one as a replacement for the apples. Her service truly could not have been better, and she is the only reason I'm rating our experience above one star. Aside from the kitchen seeming to be out of half their menu at 5:30 in the evening, the other lowlights of our experience was the bacon on the BLT, which was unfortunately very suspect as it was giving off a strange odor and deemed inedible to the member of my party who ordered it, and the bathroom. It wasn't the cleanest bathroom I've used, but the real eyebrow quirker was the layout, for the toilet was located about half a foot from the door resulting in the door slamming into the toilet upon entry and you maneuvering around the door to access it. Upon getting our tickets, we learned that this is a cash only establishment, and we subsequently all rushed to dig thought pockets and scrape together enough nickles, dimes and crumbled bills to cover our meals (as well as a decent tip for our lovely server) to avoid the ATM and subsequent fee. Only approaching the check out register did we notice the signage that warned patrons of the cash-only policy. We managed, but a verbal announcement upon seating would have been greatly appreciated. read more

We are on our way back from Myrtle Beach and were very hungry and the only other restaurant was Wendy's on this exit so we decided to eat here it was the best home-cooked meal I've had in a long time!The meatloaf dinner was absolutely amazing the only complaint I would have is that the service took a very long time ,The owner of the restaurant gave us a free piece of coconut cream pie and it was the best I've ever had ,if and you see this restaurant you really need to try.The prices are really affordable .My wife had the Reuben sandwich which was very good and my daughter had the lasagna which had three different kind of meats and definitely could tell it was home made.next year will be eating there on the way to,and from Myrtle Beach read more

To rediscovered Blake's after it being one of my favorite restaurants growing up near here was a blessing. Having been away for more than 30 years it was exciting to find Blake's still delicious! Every dish we have tried is so good! We plot when to return by the daily specials. My husband is a new fan of Blake's. I tell him my history here and the relocation of the restaurant and he enjoys the meals. Their Roast Beef and mashed potatoes are deliciously cooked to perfection. So are their Steak and gravy, meatloaf, etc. I could go down through the menu and tell you how good every dish is but you just need to go by and try it yourself. Do not leave without trying Vivian's desserts! Her pies and cakes are delicious! Italian Cream, strawberry, chocolate, coconut cream and Hershel's Chocolate are a few of my favorites!
