I started working here as my first job in March. Everyone seemed very nice and pleasant to work with, I was getting decent working hours, the workload wasn't hateful, and it was what I expected out of a first job. A couple weeks after getting hired, however, a few cracks started appearing from working there. First came one night after one of my shifts where a very nice man approached me as I was waiting outside how he admired my appearance and professionalism when asking for an application, the interview process, and working there, but then he advised me that this establishment is not the place I would want to be if I expected good treatment from my management. I naively dismissed this remark as I hadn't noticed anything negative come from anyone higher up thus far and we bade each other a good night.
My first real indication that something wasn't right was that it took a full month for me to receive my first check (on April 29th from starting March 28th) on the bi-weekly pay schedule everyone was set up on. To their credit, they had paid me for all the hours I had worked up to that point up to April 12th where that first pay period ended, but after that was when there began more issues. For the first few weeks I had worked there, I was working 4 days/week (20hrs/week) then one week came to surprise me because I had been under the impression that my schedule would be the same each week when I had learned that I had been scheduled only to work that weekend: there was a sheet I had been previously unaware of until I asked why my hours got cut and got told about it. I'll admit I could have asked for more hours albeit I had been told I was scheduled based on the flow of business so I decided not to question it.
On my last day of working there, I had arrived on time, a few minutes early, for my shift that started at 10am that day. Problem was, was that the owner (or what I presumed to be the owner) hadn't come yet to open the place which was supposed to open at 10am that day until around 10:10am with customers and other employees waiting outside with some talking of leaving and going elsewhere if the place hadn't been opened within another few minutes. After the place had finally been opened with everyone now inside, I was instructed by the wife of the person I presumed owner to start cleaning up the server's station. A little bit later, I was told by a different coworker, another former employee, in the kitchen that, that type of work I wasn't hired for and that I needed to help in the kitchen and then he told me to help prepare some of the food which I started to do. Soon after THAT, I was redirected by the wife to clean the server's station again, but this is where my coworker intervened and told the wife what he had told me a few minutes before. So she gets on the phone with the boss who had hired me to begin with about what I was supposed to be doing there and then he called me to tell me that I was now only to do dishes, and to only listen to him and the kitchen manager for instruction. Everyone else was to be ignored beyond that, but not 5 minutes later, did the wife come over and tell me the same... except that I was only to listen to her, her husband, and another manager who wasn't the kitchen manager, and that I was not to enter the kitchen area without permission. So, I just listened to the boss that actually hired me and did the dishes for the rest of my shift. Later that day I had informed my boss that I quit.
Up to this point, I had not received my paycheck from the period of April 13th through the 26th. Nor had I been fully compensated for the period of April 27th through May 10th, being paid for working one shift when I had worked 3 during that time. Now, after 3 whole MONTHS of arguing back and forth have I gotten that final check of the money they owed me.
Like that man said, management is not good here. Don't go here if you can help it, thank you
