They have some of the best small steaks you will ever eat. Flavor is amazing, but I've never had good service. I've been here my whole life and it is my last choice just because of the service. And tonight I went with a buddy to Jerry's, and, guess what? I had ribeye. Jerry's, from the outside, looks like a honky tonk bar. Inside it looks like... well, a honky tonk bar. But don't let this unassuming building throw you off. Within its walls you'll find one of the best steaks in Arkansas. That may be an exaggeration, but it is definitely one of the best I've ever eaten. I ordered the small ribeye cooked medium rare (because that's how steak is supposed to be). It came with a baked potato, jalapeños, a tomato, a pickle, and Texas toast. I ate every bite of everything. It was amazing. Jerry's really knows how to cook a steak. It was perfectly cooked. My only regret is that I didn't order the large steak! One of the main attractions for Jerry's back in the days of Jonesboro having zero establishments that served alcohol was the ability to chew on a steak and have a beer with it. Nowadays nearly every place sells beer in Jonesboro, but I have yet to find a place that can match Jerry's steak in Jonesboro. The closest place, and probably Jerry's biggest competition for Best Steak is Mel's in Harrisburg. But Jerry's definitely holds its own. Summary: Holy Mother of God... Normally when you see some place that looks like a hole in the wall, you know there is likely good food within because there's no way they'd stay in business otherwise. And this place? Wow. A-freaking-mazing. My date and I came in on Thursday night where they run a special for couples where you can each get a steak at a discount price. We bypassed it and went for individual options instead because I wanted to try the filet mignon and she wanted a ribeye. This was the best steak I've had in years. The seasoning? Perfect. The sear? Perfect. Temperature? Perfect. The added skewer of shrimp was a great balance and it wasn't like most places where you get 4-5 shrimp with an add-on. There were 14 on my skewer. Let me just get two things out of the way first: (1) I am a fan of ratty, old fashioned dive steakhouses; (2) the steak I had at Jerry's was good and cooked perfectly. That being said, the place is freaking bizarre. Don't drink the water because I think it may have Thorazine in it. The staff, all of them, the cook, the waitress, all of them, are completely expressionless. They were the food service zombies. Their mouths are flat lines. Their eyes are dead. We walked in and no one acknowledged our presence in any way. No eye contact; no "we'll be right with you." In her defense, the waitress/cashier was dealing with another customer's bill. But neither the woman who was plating food like an automaton about two feet away from us nor the cook who was only about six feet away from us even turned their heads. I guess they have very narrowly defined job descriptions and acknowledging customers isn't included. Eventually, the waitress/cashier was free and we asked whether we could seat ourselves which we did. Once we sat, I noticed the dry erase board at floor level a few feet from the door. Most of the text was missing. I believe it originally said "Welcome to Jerry's Steakhouse. Please seat yourself." Okay, our bad. But cut us non-locals some slack because now it says "Welcome to Jerry's ----ouse. -----------rself. The waitress was very prompt with drink orders and taking our food orders. When I asked what came with my small sirloin, she told me a baked potato, pickle, tomato, onion, jalapeño and Texas toast. I added on a side of mushrooms. I figured the tomato and onion would be a nice little salad. The meal came in decent time. My steak was hidden under the mound of mushrooms but that's fine. It was the massive pile of canned jalapeños that was perplexing. Truly enough jalapeño slices to keep a bad Mexican restaurant supplied for a whole day. Under that was one underripe tomato slice and a single ring of onion. Also on my plate were two little tubs of "whipped spread," a.k.a hydrogenated fat with lots of air pumped in, and, praise God, a little tube of actual sour cream. I can only assumed that my not very toasty Texas toast was slathered with the same hydrogenated soybean oil and some garlic powder. Undaunted, I burrowed down through the mushrooms and sliced off a piece of steak: it was really perfect. Meanwhile, my husband's steak sandwich was just that: a steak sandwich in the middle of a plate. Admittedly a good steak sandwich but nothing more, nada, zilch, zip. I felt bad for him so I gave him my pickle and half of my steamed since this morning in aluminum foil potato. If you're a little grossed out by the thought of other people's meals still being on the plate your meal is being served on, be warned. Jerry's plates are ancient plastic with the cuts of a thousand steak knives on them and all those cuts are brown while the actual plate is beige. For the entire time we were there, not a single member of the staff had any change in facial expression. Not a smile, not a raised eyebrow. Absolutely nothing. This was not just their treatment of us who were clearly out of towners. Everyone received the zombie affect. So, here's our advice if you go to Jerry's: order a side salad if you are a silly health nut and think green vegetables other than canned jalapeños should be part of a meal, bring your own butter for the potatoes and realize that sandwiches come with nothing. Oh, and don't forget: don't drink the water, it's turning the staff into the undead. read more

3 sandwiches...that were not anything special, 4 sodas, which were brought out in cans, 2 beers, a burger and a grilled cheese...with no fries or sides was $75.00...not to mention took 40 minutes and when we asked if our food would be much longer were told "this ain't McDonalds" well we could have gotten more food, faster, and paid less and been happier at McDonalds! This is my husband and my favorite place to eat. Best steaks around...much better than any steak you can buy in a chain restaurant. Sometimes the service can be slow, especially if they are slammed; however, it is ALWAYS worth the wait. And if your wanting a burger, they are one of the best burgers in NE Arkansas, real hand made patties, not frozen, and loads of add-ons!
