I live just outside Raleigh, NC and only discovered this place about a year ago when I got back into making art. Almost immediately it became my go-to shop for art supplies - and framing supplies as well. I do a bit of framing on the side for myself, family, and friends, and they carry a great selection of mat boards and backer/mounting boards, including archival products. I can't really speak to their in-store frame selection since I've only needed mat board and mounting supplies since I started shopping here. Their art supply selection is huge, and they carry just about anything you could need. The customer service has always been excellent - everyone I've interacted with has been friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. And if someone wasn't personally familiar with what I needed help with, they were always quick to find another associate who was. Their prices are also very fair, especially considering the excellent selection and customer service you get in return. I would absolutely recommend this Jerry's to anyone. Have always loved Jerry's for art supplies, however, the custom framing is outrageously expensive. A 5 1/2 " x 6 1/2" image with a 2" mat and the cheapest wood frame was $622. On sale for $311. I was flabbergasted!! And the frame will not be ready for 6 weeks!!NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!! read more

JERRY'S Is my go to place for art supplies. Nearly all my art supply purchases are through them, especially large canvases. JERRY'S is the place! I paint on large canvases and you just can't beat their prices. The same is true of their oil paints or any other supplies, I might need. It's not just a small savings, or I would certainly buy local. I believe in buying local, whenever possible Jerry's offers free shipping on orders over $59. You can't beat that.,Their quality is as excellent, as the brand you buy. They carry many. Yes, I buy nearly all my art supplies from Jerry's Artarama. I say nearly, because there are things I need to see and touch. With my brushes, I need to know how they will respond to paint on canvas. To know that, I need to feel them and see how they move. I'm very particular about my brushes. Not that I take good care of them, once I get them.... LOL! Sadly, I don't. Initially though, I like to buy those in person. The better the brush, the easier it is to implement what you want on the canvas or paper, or anything really. I invest in good brushes! So, I go to Michael's for brushes and also for my odorless turpentine. Btw, odorless turpentine is not odorless, but regular turpentine will explode your head! . So why not 5 stars? Well, I think their website is a bit confusing and not so user friendly. I get why that probably is. They carry a massive amount of supplies. *CAVEAT: I am reviewing the ONLINE Jerry's Artarama customer service in Raleigh, North Carolina, which - *SHOCKER!!* - does not have a Yelp presence :(!! But here is my review for said online customer service experience: The ABSOLUTE most egregious customer service EVER!! DO NOT EVER buy online from this horrifically customer-service-averse company; ONLY buy in-store if you can positively ascertain that you may exchange a product if, God forbid, you make a human mistake and need to simply exchange a frame for a different size. I ordered a lovely frame online from this company and my painting was slightly off for the dimensions of the frame I ordered; I simply needed to EXCHANGE (not RETURN) my frame for one size larger (I.e., I would be paying the company MORE for the increased size...) but the size of the frame rendered the cost of shipping at $68- ... only $20- less than the frame cost!! I was told that I could not exchange but needed to place a new order for the new frame which I did. But when I contacted customer service to ask if they could send me a shipping label and even charge me their cost to ship, they refused twice and stated that the cost was the entire responsibility of the customer, despite the $68- shipping fee. This is not even worth it. I would net $20- for my return after paying for this asinine shipping cost. This company doesn't give a S#%T about retaining customers so they just lost one and the loss is exponential. Most of us are loyal to customer-oriented companies but guess what? We don't live in a monopoly and there are countless competitors with quality products who VALUE THEIR CUSTOMERS. Unlike Jerry's Artarama. read more

I'm ashamed it's taking me so long to check this place out! It's right by my house and I'd way rather support local then trek on over to Michael's. Of course they don't have everything that Michael's has but they are pretty darn close. And if you are just on the artist side and not as much into the crafting they definitely have everything you are looking for. The employees were so friendly and happy to walk me to what I was looking for within the store. The cashier also explained the loyalty program to me and since it was free I signed right up. You get 10% off every visit and on this particular visit they were doing a 20% off promo. Since they are towards the back of Holly Park parking is never an issue in this area. The store is deceivingly large and much bigger than I expected from the outside. I will be back! read more

I asked if they sold yarn (I use several mediums to create art, yarn being one of them at the moment) and her reply absolutely floored me... She said "no.. this is an art store, not a craft store" in an incredibly rude and condescending way. Large selection of top brands and good delivery I have ordered at least 8 times without any issue but on my last order I mistakenly ordered an oil paint instead of acrylic , that's where the fun starts. It took me almost 5 days and 15 attempts to have someone at Jerry's customer service answer the call. It just rang continuously. Once connected it was smooth sailing. This place is an artist's paradise. If you can imagine it, Jerry's probably has all the supplies you need to make it. It's located in the same shopping area as Trader's Joe's, Raleigh and right off the freeway. It's easy to get to and ample parking. I took my daughter here to get all of her college art supplies. The prices are good and she got an extra 10% discount for signing up for their loyalty program. The staff is incredibly helpful and friendly so we were able to find everything that she needed quickly. The store is well organized and clean. I predict that we will frequent Jerry's Artarama a lot! I love that they are centrally located in Raleigh and they have such a great selection of products in all price points. read more

4/12/23 Jerry's solved the issues with this particularly difficult item to my satisfaction.

Do not buy from this company. Their customer service is a mess. I bought 2 frames. One arrived broken, the other never came and we got no updates about the status of the 2nd item. The frame they sent arrive shattered. I filled out the proper "damaged item" form, was followed up with via email by a rep who asked me to send photos, which I did. Still the refund was not issued and I had to call to request a refund (because I had already had to purchase a replacement locally). I was told a refund would be issued promptly. Still,, the refund isn't issued. Then, I receive an email the missing frame they had said nothing about suddenly shipped. Which I will now have to go through the process of returning - if it arrives in one piece. Now, I receive another shipping notice, this time for the 1st frame that arrived broken that I am trying to get a refund for. So now I will have two items I no longer need after jumping through way too many hoops trying to get a refund for damaged product. We clearly stated multiple times DO NOT NEED A REPLACEMENT. We already had to purchase frames locally at a much higher price. I have spent a lot of time and effort (as you can see above) on this issue. Once this issue is finally resolved, I will never buy from this company again. read more

Let's get this straight. Jerrys is not ACMoore Jerry's is not Michaels. Jerry's is not even Art and craftsman. (you see, I've been to them all) Jerry's is old skool. Watercolors, Oil Paints, canvas, pencils and tools. It's like the Ace Hardware of Art supplies. This is the place were you go to get the basics, and the good stuff. If you're into certain arts, you can get the really nice Montana Spray Cans (no nibs, guess you gotta find them on the internet). They carry serious acrylic paint too, I could just stand there and look at the colors all day. Visit often enough and you will find awesome prices on things that if you are really smart, you can turn into other things and SELL! LIke canvas, right now at the time of this review, there was a KILLER deal on canvas. The staff ranges from coffee shop aloof to bugging you friendly. This time they were mellowed out right there in between. A staff person saw (i didn't know she saw me) that I was ladened down with mini canvases. She came around the corner and met me with a basket, before I knew it. That was awesomely nice. You won't find the newest art and craft gimmick here, but you will always always find the stuff you need to keep your skills regardless if you are a purist or altered art renegade. read more

At best I will rate this business a 1. I am a positive person, easy to please and typically sing the praises of businesses, but it has been one thing after another with Jerry's Artarama in Raleigh. I have a very valuable piece of art that has not only been ruined due to the massive incompetence of the staff, but the numerous mistakes made to the order and measurements at this establishment is unreal. The manager, Brandon,( sp) who said he would take care of this colossal mess has not had the courtesy of calling me back after multiple attempts. Jerry's came very highly recommended by a dear friend, but I can't express how disappointed I am in the service of this business. They might advertise they have the "lowest prices and best deals", but you definitely get what you pay for. read more

Brenon on the phone was very courteous and polite and spent time to search for various brands and gave me some good options. He also helped me buy these over the phone and arranged to get it delivered to my studio within a few hours. I am so happy to recommend this store not only as it's a delight for artists but because of the professionalism, courtesy and the customer experience that Brenon and Mary offer to their customers. This is not specific to the Raleigh store, to be clear. Most horrible customer service I have ever had. Ordered a product online that was a close out with a very large close out discount price. Entire order was about $150. Got an email confirming my order and said I would receive tracking info. I never got the tracking info so i called to check - they had canceled the order (and did not bother to tell me) because their shipping calculator had been down the day of my order. My shipping fee was $20. The person on the phone said no problem, they could re-submit my order because the shipping calculator was working now, so they did that, and the shipping fee was $500! This is a very lightweight product but it is long, so i get it, oversize shipping fees. So i asked if i could come to the warehouse and pick it up? (it is 45 minutes from where i live). They said no, customers cannot come to the warehouse. They said there was nothing that could be done. I said that's kind of crazy - no one is going to pay $500 to ship a $150 product - you want to get rid of something on close out and I want to buy it, is there nothing we can figure out? They said no. Later i called back and got another person. They said i could call my local store and order it as a special order. Wow, why didn't the first person tell me that?? So I did that, the manager at the Raleigh store was very nice and helpful and got it ordered and said it would take 3 weeks and i would have to pick it up at the store. Great! I thought i was all set. My credit card was charged. After 3 weeks i called to check on the order and then I was told oh, we do not have it in stock, your order was canceled and you were refunded. I had been waiting 3 weeks. (In all fairness, they may have tried to call as they said they did, but i didn't have a message from them). Meanwhile, i checked back on their website and they still have the product listed for sale for the close out price but with $500 shipping. Just idiotic business. I just ordered if from the manufacturer and paid full price but got free shipping - it came in about 3 days and cost less than the close out price from Jerry's with the $500 shipping. This company clearly has no clear lines of communication with the home office or any way to make common sense decisions. So i guess they will continue to sit on product they are trying to sell at a huge discount because they refuse to ship it to their stores (and lie and say it is out of stock) or let a customer come to the warehouse to pick it up. It will probably end up in a landfill somewhere. Good job, Jerry's. read more

They have a large selection of supplies for all types of art. The customer service is really great and they offer a lot of help if you need it. Jerry's is a dangerous store. You go in for a paint brush or a pencil or something equally innocuous, and you end up wandering around for a few hours trying to talk yourself out of a half-dozen new hobbies. As the other reviewers have stated (far more capably than I probably could, given my limited talents as an artist), Jerry's is equipped to handle everyone from rank novice to pro. If it's even remotely art related, they've got at least seven of them, in more sizes and colors than you thought possible. The staff all seem to be hand-picked art junkies who make every trip there an educational experience, and I get the feeling that if there's a "healthy" sort of store for kids to be in, it's a place like Jerry's. read more

I moved to the Raleigh/Durham area from Seattle recently. There, I had the awesome Artist Craftsman store to supply my mixed media needs. Well, I have found a formidable replacement in Jerry's. As soon as I walked in, the sweet smell of possibility wafted over me. I just wandered the aisles, and they have A LOT. It's almost overwhelming. But in a supremely good way. Their prices are pretty good, and they have more canvasses than I've ever seen in one place. The staff is awesomely helpful, and able to answer any questions. I was also pleased to see they offer a variety of classes. I'll definitely be back- with a bigger shopping list, too. read more

They carry a lot of the hard to find/high quality/artisan brands that the big box art stores like Michael's & Hobby Lobby do not carry. For example, they carry Stonehenge paper, & Old Holland oil paint. Definitely the go-to store for professional artists. read more

I could seriously spend hours in here, but my wallet definitely won't allow it. This place is packed from floor to ceiling with pretty much anything you could want to complete your masterpiece of choice, everything from basic sketching supplies to sculpting clay and bookbinding tools. This place is dangerous because it makes me want to buy supplies for stuff I don't even know how to do. They have this gorgeous Chinese calligraphy set which calls my name every time I walk in. Do I even know how to do Chinese calligraphy? Hell no. Do I still want that cute little set with the blue-and-white porcelain inkwells and bamboo brushes? You bet, haha. One thing that definitely deserves mention is how awesome the customer service is here. There are always friendly staff members wandering around, ready to help you find whatever you need. This is a really good thing, because this place is so jam-packed with stuff, it can sometimes be hard to find exactly what you're looking for if you don't already know where it is. They are also really knowledgeable and can give lots of helpful project advice if you need it. I also saw that they offer art classes in many different types of media, which I thought was very cool. If there's something that you've always wanted to try, I would definitely check out the list on their website. I haven't taken any yet, but I want to do so in the future! read more

I've been meaning to check Jerry's out for awhile. I've heard great things from people and finally had the extra time and money to make my move. The store is very bare-bones aesthetically - white metal shelving, bright lights. It's got a warehouse-y, storage room feel, which strangely works given the fact that you're there for TOOLS...ART TOOLS. The place is positively packed with supplies ranging from kid-friendly projects to quality sculpting clays. I was able to find a nice variety of what I wanted and the friendly and knowledgable staff were super-helpful. The prices seemed in-line too with what I was expecting. Jerry's is a great option for someone looking to re-stock their art supplies. Just be careful you don't go in looking for a few tubes of paint and end up walking out with all the fun, exciting other potential projects that get your attention! read more

Went here to get a couple of sketches that I had drawn framed. OK, OK...so I am a complete idiot. I didn't realize it would or could take 2 weeks to get the frame done. Sooooooooo.....I ended up spending tons of my time and the poor guy behind the counters time. He was great...and VERY...VERY patient. I have often stopped by Jerry's before shopping at the Trader Joe's across the parking lot (and I often am tempted to go in, but don't, because I love art supplies and already have too many). Recently, I had a print that needed to be framed. I was going to get a thrift store frame and try to do it myself, but it's for my dad's Christmas present, and I wanted it to look nice. They have a coupon on their website for first-time framing customers, so I decided to try their framing department. I got there later than I meant to, just before the store closed for the evening, so the frame selection process was a little rushed, and I had a bit of sticker shock when I heard the price (although I haven't done much custom framing, and now that I've researched it, I've found that it's not cheap no matter where you go). The framer offered some different options for the glass that got the price into territory that I considered reasonable. The job was done well ahead of schedule. When I got it, I wasn't 100% delighted with the way it turned out, so I emailed the store manager with my concerns. He responded right away, taking everything I had to say into consideration. He really went above and beyond to make sure that I ended up with the frame I'd envisioned, all in time for Christmas. I went in the next day, and he was there to talk to me personally about what they were going to do to make things right. The framer helped me choose a replacement mat and frame that really complement and enhance the print without overwhelming it. I picked up the frame today, and it looks amazing. Looking at it from a bit of distance, as you would see it on a wall, the proportions are right and the colors are harmonious. An up-close inspection reveals meticulous construction. I can't wait to see my dad's reaction when he sees this--I think he's going to love it. If I need anything else framed, I'll come back. read more

I purchased a canvas piece from Etsy and needed to get it framed. Never having got anything framed before, I did some research before I took it anywhere. I went to Jerry's based on its Yelp reviews. When I got there, someone greeted me right away and led me to the framing department. That's where I met Hannah. Hannah was amazing. she walked me through the whole process and all the different options to frame a canvas piece. And, even though I brought it in well after the deadline for Christmas orders, Hannah had it done for me in plenty of time (I was charged a rush fee). When I picked it up, I was so pleased. Around for 40 years! Very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful staff! Taught me more than I ever needed to know about pigments and how to choose them. The store is huge, about the size of a small supermarket and I challenge you to not be able to find what you need here. This is a small chain with about 14 other stores scattered around the country, so if Raleigh doesn't have it, they can usually find it elsewhere for you in short order. They hold regular painting/drawing/crafts classes in the back, I peeked in and they looked really fun. read more

I keep returning because the store has decent prices and a friendly staff. The store has fantastic deals which they publish in a brochure from time to time. It's nice to have an art store that art students can afford. Initially went there for airbrushing supplies, but what started as a 'milk & eggs' visit turned into a shopping extravaganza! Whatever medium you can think of, they will most likely have it. Although, they didn't have a plethora of airbrushing supplies... Nonetheless, I managed to get great deals on Winston water color supplies, a great fan brush that I can't wait to use, and a great watercolor pallette storage. YAY! They also have special art classes that you can take, which I am looking forward to doing when I have the time. Jerry's Artarama is definitely one of the best art stores I've been to. But boy was I wrong, they made sure I got everything I needed. The customer service is amazing, they already knew where everything was and I'm really happy.
