I somehow made it to my age without ever needing an oral surgeon but finally needed an extraction. Dr. Merrell was the closest oral surgeon on my insurance plan. I wasn't excited about driving all the way from Paso Robles but called to talk about an appointment. I spoke to Susie and she was amazing, working with me on scheduling and on dealing with insurance. Staff is the first contact with health care providers and Susie made me feel like I'd made the right choice. This feeling was confirmed when I went to my appointment in Solvang. Susie greeted me at the front desk and a few minutes later I was in a room for treatment. Dr. Merrell arrived and I immediately felt at ease. He discussed the process and we also chatted for a few minutes about things unrelated to teeth. An extraction isn't high on my list of things to have done, but Dr. Merrell made is as pleasant as possible. I left with a list of prescriptions and specific instructions on post-extraction care. The next day, my phone rang with a Solvang number. I thought it would be Susie with a question about scheduling my next appointment, but it was Dr. Merrell himself following up on the appointment. He asked how I was feeling and whether I was taking the meds and following the procedures he recommended. It was really nice old-fashioned service. A couple of week later, I returned to have sutures removed and was in and out in a very short time feeling better. I have a little more work to be done and feel better knowing Dr. Merrell will be doing it with Susie's support in the front office. read more

My daughter got her wisdom teeth removed by this guy and his staff was so rude the front desk lady was very rude! He was very short and careless my daughter recorded him while she was put under and he and his staff talked shit about her she's only 17 they are a trashy office don't take your kids there please. read more

My grandmother was referred to this office from her dentist. When arrived 10mim before her scheduled appointment and when we arrived they said she wasn't even scheduled for a tooth extraction. Thankfully someone cancelled so she was able to take that appointment slot, however in trying to figure out what happened with the scheduled appointment the receptionist has so much attitude. When asked how long until the Dr. will she my grandmother, the receptionist seemed so bothered by my question and said "I don't know they are in surgery." When I asked is it going to take an hour or more, she said "oh no more than an hour". The receptionist is the worst. Do not come here if you can avoid it. read more

Twice, Very Very Poor Service & Very Rude Attitude To All Patients 1st Time, Receptionist (Wife) Ripped Up My ID & Insurance Information Papers in front of me. The 2nd Time, the Receptionist (Wife) Went back to the dentist (her husband) and complained to him. Saying I upset her, for asking if the forehead thermometer was sanitized. During this troubled time of COVID-19. The dentist came out and told me, "I would have to leave because I upset his receptionist." This Dentist does not like Mexican people. His receptionist (Wife) was yelling at the other Mexican patients in the office. This office is not welcoming to its patients. My brother went to him to have his wisdom teeth removed. My brother was going to be put under anesthesia and felt uncomfortable so he recorded them while he was under. They said my brother was creepy and gave them bad vibes. They called him a lizard person and one nurses even called him Satan. It's all recorded and posted to my brothers Facebook. Dr. Merrell was fantastic! His office was accommodating to my schedule too, I live a little ways away so they figured out a time that they could do the consultation and remove the teeth in one day. His staff explains the whole process before starting anything, as well as what they do to make sure you heal as quickly as possible They really do know what they're doing, and it shows- I haven't had any pain since waking up from the anesthesia at all. Worst place ever. If I can give this place a negative five stars I will. We live in Paso Robles which is 2 hours drive to the office. I make an appointment for my dad to come in on a Monday at 10:30 am. We arrived at 10:00 am no one was there and the door is lock. Through we still early so we waited for an hour until 11 am no one show up so we have to drive 2 hours back home. The next morning I called the office at 9 am. The girl who answered the phone say no one was working on Monday. So why the heck did they make us an appointment when they know that they're not working. I receive no phone call or messages at all regarding the office is not open . Not even one apology for that mistake that they make and the girl then asked me if we wanted to reschedule. My dad tooth been hurting bad so I say yes and ask them if they have something available that same day. She ask me how long can we get there. I told her 2 hours. She gave us an appointment that same day at 1:30 pm. I then took a day off from work and drove my dad back there again. We arrived at 1 pm and there is no at the office so I thought that they are out for lunch. After 40 minutes waiting the girl arrived to the office and told us and the other two people who's also waiting for their appointment outside that the doctor have an emergency that morning and he can't come to the office for the rest of the day. Again 2 hours drive there for nothing and they didn't even call us for notice of what's going on until we arrived there. Everyone times is valuable not just your Dr. BS. If you don't take your business seriously then you should not be in business at all. read more

Terrible doctor to work with children. Barely talks to the child as he works on them, even when they're literally shaking with fear. Couldn't find a vein in the child's hand, jabbed multiple times. Doesn't allow parents to be in the same room as the child, but doesn't tell you that until just before the procedure is about to begin. Doesn't explain ANYTHING or answer questions. I will not be back, under any circumstances. I'd rather pay for my child's dental care out of pocket than go back to this office. read more

Had to re schedule my appointment two times to get wisdom teeth removed. The first time I had an appointment, nobody called me to tell me it was going to be cancelled. I drove all the way to the location (45 mins away from where I live) only to find out it was cancelled. I decided to re schedule because I really had no other option. When I had my appointment and I was going through the process, I ended up fainting when the "Dr." put the IV in me and the dental assistants repeatedly ROLLED THEIR EYES, because my blood pressure would not stabilize BECAUSE I FAINTED. Pretty sure that occurs when you faint right?They were not patient, or helpful, if anything they seemed really annoyed. He AGAIN re scheduled my appointment because I fainted. he told me that if I was going to faint, to just go somewhere else. I would not recommend this location. VERY RUDE STAFF. read more

I thought the doctor was kind & very attentive. However, I received a voicemail to give the office a call back to schedule my appointment. I called back as soon as I could & immediately was treated very poorly by the receptionist I was explaining why I was calling & she immediately cut me off and yelled through the phone "DATE OF BIRTH" I was astonished but still said my date of birth. There was no answer from her after that so I hung up and called again. To which it went straight to voicemail. I called back another time & stated what she did was very rude & I told her my date of birth. The receptionist then yelled again & said "OMG IT WAS AN ACCIDENT" in a very rude and obnoxious way. As a patient & healthcare worker I cannot imagine treating a patient the way this receptionist treated me. I am open to changing my review if I receive an apology and get a call back from the doctors office. Other than that, customer service is definitely something this receptionist needs to work on & be reprimanded for. read more

My wife called to schedule an appointment today after being referred by her normal dentist for an extraction. The lady on the phone was rude to say the least. She seemed bothered and when asked about an appointment earlier in the day said that the one she offered was the only one she had without looking for future available appointments. My wife does not speak perfect english so although that does not deserve bad treatment itself i could understand some extent of frustration if that was the issue. I then called back (my english is perfect) to better explain the situation and inquire about a possible appointment further out but earlier in the day. Again the lady was extremely rude and stated "we don't do those procedures early in the day" as if i work there and should know that. I then asked for her name and after a long delayed pause said "Erica." I do not believe that to be her real name however ownership/management should be able to figure out who this rude lady was on the phone as this happened on 3/11/21 around 12:30. We have our appointment set and will gladly update/adjust our review after our in person visit. This review is a reflection/review of the customer service received over the phone today, horrible. Hopefully this is just a representation of one person having a bad day and not the entire staff and establishment itself. We will see how our in-person visit goes and update after. read more

Your assistant took me in right away, and was so helpful. At my age I shouldn't be nervous, but, I was :-). You assured me everything was going to be fine. I felt so taken care of. This morning, I was thinking about you Dr. Merrell. I had just thanked the Lord for sending me such a wonderful doctor my way, and you called! I was so surprised! I have had nurses call to follow up, BUT NEVER a doctor. You took the time to call me personally, and ask me how I was feeling. You do not know how much that means to me. Apparently they treat some people nice but my wife got the bums rush. I don't know if it is because we have medi-cal or because my wife doesn't have great teeth but they didn't explain any post op for wisdom teeth extraction. Didn't even offer pain meds. We figured they just don't give norco anymore because of opioid epidemic but when my wife was there waiting she overheard the doctor kindly explaining to a pretty young patient how she would be getting norco, she decided to ask about it and the doc was like " oh ... did you want pain medicine?" Really!!!??? No, why would she want pain meds? (face palm) Didn't explain any risks. Didn't take any time to explain aftercare. Just rushed her out immediately after the procedure she endured without any anesthesia because we couldn't afford $250 for a vial of medicine that probably cost them $10. No sedation, nothing. If you are wealthy or young and attractive you probably won't have any problems but if you have to come here ask a lot of questions and stick up for yourself. My wife is a sweet mild mannered woman and I am truly sorry I don't have the money to buy her better service because I feel like that is the only thing that gets you friendly compassionate service in this sick world. read more
