The second time I went in, they were delayed starting as no one was at the front desk and then I proceeded to have the worst dental care experience. The hygienist spent time fiddling with the music and volume, cited the wrong side of the mouth they were about to clean (it was a deep cleaning so divided into two sessions) and had to correct them. They were actively hurting me and grabbing the side of my cheek several times throughout the process. I asked them to pause several times during the cleaning. At the initial numbing injection, I had never felt pain like that during a dental procedure and when I flinches, they just gripped my cheek harder and pushed the needle quicker. As this was my second cleaning with them, it was a total 180 degree experience to the one I had the first time with a different hygienist. This cleaning was also done far quicker than the first one. In retrospect, I should have left before the procedure started when the hygienist was indicating they were not prepared. I have empathy that everyone has a bad day, but when it involves medical care, it is different when physical harm and emotional harm is being done. I spoke to the receptionist after when I was in shock and they were very empathetic but said this hygienist had been with them a long time and was rated positively. I emailed the company through their website later and never received a response. When they texted me later to schedule a follow up appointment I expressed that I was not going to continue as I had such a horrible experience. They apologized and said they would not schedule me with the same hygienist. I was disappointed the company did not reach out to me after my email regarding my experience.

Absolutely…read more I had a full dental checkup elsewhere just six months ago with zero indications that any major work was required. Yet after X-rays and a brief exam here, Dr. Sevak Mahout presented me with a $2,000 treatment plan. When I wasn't ready to drop two grand on the spot, I politely declined for the day. That's when the experience went completely downhill. The "cleaning" that followed was easily the worst, most half-assed (more like quarter-assed) dental cleaning I have ever received. Mahout spent maybe seven minutes barely scraping my lower teeth before handing me off to a hygienist for a quick wrap up and polish. It felt like direct retribution for refusing the immediate upsell. Thank God I didn't agree to let him perform actual procedures on my teeth. Now I have to go to a real practice to get my teeth properly cleaned, making this visit a total waste of time and money. Calling Mahout "a doctor" is an insult to true healthcare providers who prioritize patient well-being over profit. A far more accurate name for this place would be "The Dental Factory." Their business model is transparent: high volume, low quality, and aggressive sales pitches. If you think this is an exaggeration, Google how these operations actually work: "The $59 new patient special is a classic marketing strategy known as a 'loss leader.' Many modern dental offices are quietly owned by Dental Support Organizations (DSOs)--large corporate or private-equity chains. Dentists of Pasadena on Lake is owned by one of the largest corporate dental chains in the US, Pacific Dental Services (PDS). Because offices lose money on the $59 promo, the staff is under immense corporate pressure to meet strict daily revenue targets. They are incentivized to aggressively comb through your mouth for upsells--recommending high-margin procedures like same-day CEREC crowns, replacing old fillings, or insisting on expensive deep cleanings before granting a standard cleaning." Most recent visit for myself in July 2026 with dental dual coverage I was billed 100% of CT scan of $220.00 without billing either of my insurance with a $75.00 deductible - $50.00 primary and $25.00 secondary however deductible applies once secondary is billed and dental plan will apply deductible depending on the allowed amount of coverage. Example if allowed amount is $15.00 than deductible is $15.00 until deductible is met for the year. Naomi and I have had our differences with overcharging but enough is enough!!! Naomi also highlighted for front-end office staff to bill me for $857.00 for a Zirconia Crown with both insurance payments of $385.50 each total = $771 when I called first was told crown charge is over $1500 then was told crown charge is $1450.00 minus $771.00 insurance payments my balance forward should be $679.00 overcharging me $178.00 I want to point out that Dr. B is a great dentist, and I have not experienced any dental work issues with him and his back-office staff hygienist reason for me continuing to drive from West Covina to Pasadena. Please always ask for a copy of treatment plan, itemized statement and check your benefit plan coverage and/or call your insurance. Then the dentist came in and told me my prior dentist is no longer there. First, I heard of it. I advocated for a less aggressive approach. No one was listening except my new friend Zach! I switch the hygienist right away cause it was just another job for her and to be perfectly honest she didn't even exam my teeth herself. Be careful who you choose. The dentist who I just met was nice but I was not happy that a diagnosis was recommended without personally examining my teeth!
