As soon as I saw the logo, I was like "I've been here before!" They had another location near my niece's dance studio, which is gone now, and that's too bad!! It was a full-sized restaurant with booths, a bar and all. This location has some tables, but it's much more intimate. From the moment I stepped in to when I finished my meal, they were playing Bob Marley... so the vibes were definitely there. I studied the menu, forgetting how big it actually is. It's deceptive, given the size of the place. I'm saying, they've got things like jerk nachos, tacos, and much more! There was an ongoing lunch special, and I decided to do half curry chicken and half brown stew chicken since I hadn't had either one. I got rice & peas and calalloo as my sides. I could tell that some of the other patrons were regulars, and everyone was just super friendly. Overall, everything was delicious, and tasted just as you expect they would... and while flavorful, still not quite on the same level as some of my favorite spots closer to home. And then I ended my meal with a Reese's cookie recommended by the woman behind the counter. That cookie might've been the star of the show, honestly. Addictive, simply addictive!! Went here to grab dinner on a Tuesday to take to the brewery across the road. I have to say that this is some pretty darn good food to accompany beer! The place is pretty unassuming as its in a strip mall, but the food was very good and the staff was super knowledgeable. Really the one woman working is probably the main reason that the takeout experience was so good. She promoted her home country of Jamaica proudly and taught us a good deal about the best way to eat the food we got and what some of it was. When they say on the website that they take pride, it shows! We ordered the 1/4 jerk chicken with mac and cheese as the side and the goat curry with callaloo. They both came with rice and "peas" which are really beans to us. Both dishes also came with a spicy and a sweet sauce which she told us to mix together for the perfect bite and she wasn't wrong. The chicken had a nice crispy skin to it, with a juicy center and the jerk flavor was not overpowering. It was perfect with the mix of sauces on it. The mac and cheese left a little more to be desired, but it was improved with the spicy sauce. The goat curry had good flavor, which came with the bones being left in, so be aware when eating. The callaloo was a surprise hit of the meal. It is kind of a cabbage like consistency plant that looks like spinach and it was flavored with garlic, pepper, and salt. My first time here and I was impressed. The to-go boxes were wrapped in plastic wrap which is something I rarely see but definitely appreciate. The coconut shrimp had a lot of flavor and were perfectly cooked. The rice & peas was flavorful and good too. I did not like the cabbage, it was bland. That's all, it didn't taste like anything. My friend liked the jerk chicken, stating it was juicy and had an authentic "jerk flavor" By the time I made it home about 15 minutes, all the food was still hot. I had a jerk sandwich with a side of rice and peas and the Mac and cheese. The sandwich was huge and the coco bread was soft and tasty. But that's it.... The sandwich had some type of mayo on it that was too much in quantity and flavor. It completely took the attention away from the jerk chicken. The rice and peas had zero flavor and was dry. The Mac and cheese was bland and I hate seeing the curdled pieces of egg in Mac and cheese. Get it outta here!! I was so disappointed in the food here. Getting in and out of the parking lot was a hassle. Maybe it was the day I went. This place is legit!! Based on the strong recommendation of a friend who lives in Frederick, I finally made my way here. To be safe, I placed my order over the phone prior to arriving, because this restaurant is about 35 mins (without traffic) north of where I live. I tried the jerk salmon and oxtail dinner; both entrées come with the traditional (caribbean) rice and peas, and an additional 1-2 sides. I opted from sweet potatoes, fried plantain, and cabbage. I also decided try a beef pattie. The food was overall tasty, and I would describe it as more of a southern take on classic Caribbean dishes. just a heads up! Though the rice and peas were underwhelming, the other sides dishes were very delicious, but there is $1 up-charge for "premium" sides (i.e. fried plantains, mac and cheese, sweet potatoes). And The beef pattie was absolutely amazing!! My order came up a little pricey ~$43, but the portions were decent enough. And, do NOT pass up on getting a beef pattie!! It was sooo good!! Btw, Ms. Tonia offered the best customer service and graciously gave me a little history of the restaurant being brought to the Frederick area. The restaurant itself is located in a small strip mall, and is very clean inside, with a modest dine-in area. And there is ample parking right out front of the store and at the side of the building. It might look kind of sketchy being on a little outlet near a papa johns, but do NOT let looks fool you. This is the best Jamaican food I have ever had. The sweet potatoes were better than my mom's!!! (Don't tell her I said that...) And I am not a spicy person, I even asked for the least spiciest thing and they delivered on that - the brown chicken (not sure if it was brown curry?). It's a small restaurant but there is enough seating for you to sit and eat, if you choose to. I settled on ordering the Jerk Chicken sandwich. I got the spicy. My coworker ordered the Jerk Chicken (white meat) plate with rice and peas. It took a while for our food to come out but we didn't mind. You can't rush good food. Even though I had spicy, it wasn't too spicy for me. I really enjoyed my sandwich. The best part about it was the coco bread. It was so soft!! I could've eaten just the bread with butter on it. It was that good. It was one of the best jerk sandwiches I've had. I didn't order any sides so I can't speak on those but my coworker's rice and peas and plantains looked yummy. Got the Oxtail stew w/ rice & peas, Mac and cheese, collard greens. It was SO GOOD! Meat is fall-off-the-bone tender and wonderfully flavorful. The entree is considered a "dinner" option (comes w/ 2 sides), but it's available all day. Came with peas & rice and we were able to pick 2 additional sides. The greens had a little heat to it, and I enjoyed it very much. Coconut shrimp was also DELICIOUS. They are made-to-order and also came with rice & peas. Sweet and slightly fried, it is so good that I ate all the shrimp with their tails. Portion size is substantial. You could probably split any of these orders 2-way and get a couple beef patties (also delicious) for a nice meal. The guy who was taking our order and payment was very kind and polite. Not the best caribbean food ever. I had the Goat Curry, Spicy Beef Patty, Oxtail, and Jerk Chicken (breast and wings). Goat curry was probably the best, and Jerk Chicken was awful. Just a huge chicken breast that was dry as a bone and tough as nails. If you're feeling jerk chicken, highly recommend you get the wings over the breast, although the wings weren't all that either. Rice and peas were good but the collard greens were mid at best. Service was as typical as most caribbean restaurants are -- good, not great. My party stood around for 10 minutes in an empty restaurant waiting for our orders to be taken. Man taking my order was pleasant though, all things considered. Chicken Sandwiches My son and I both had the chicken sandwiches. Mine was spicy while his was mild. We were both EXTREMELY SATISFIED! Sandwiches were so flavorful! The spicy sandwich was not overpowering at all. It was more a tingling spiciness. The highlight of both sandwiches is the sweet bread!!! Absolutely fantastic! I also added a side of greens which were amazing on their own. I came to town for Fiberfest and looked for a place to eat, and upon seeing there was a Jamaican place with good reviews I had to go there (given that curried goat is the GOAT food for me.) I'm happy to say, it's quite legit! The flavor profile was spot on, it had a little heat (probably a lot by MD standards, but only a little by mine). I really liked the collard greens too. The mac and cheese to me was just ok, probably because it was cold and congealed. It might be better fresh. But the goat was great, had enough sauce to saturate the rice & peas just right. It's the #2 curried goat I've had in MD thus far (yes, I am ranking them! All the others are in the Silver Spring area so far.) I'm happy again on a visit on a future visit to town. read more

BUYER BEWARE! I regularly patronize this restaurant, however they have questionable business practices. I placed an online order that totaled $79.50 which included $33 for a crab cake dinner. When I arrived to pick up my order and was informed that they did not have crab cakes. I then asked for fish since crab cakes were not available. When I requested a refund for the difference between what I received and what I paid for, I was advised by the worker via the manager that they could give me an extra piece of fish. Considering the nearly $15 difference between the dishes, thus is unacceptable. And to not offer refunds when the business is at fault is bad business. In will handle this with my bank, but others BEWARE when placing orders with this establishment online. I certainly will not again. read more

A Caribbean oasis in Frederick serving incredible island favorites. I settled on the oxtail, rice & peas, and collard greens. Amazing beyond control. Oxtail was tender and lip smacking good. Authentic and incredibly delicious. Also took a Jamaican pie to go and man was it tasty!! Minced meat seasoned well, and a flaky fresh crust. This was my favorite Jamaican food in the area and I look forward to visiting everytime I'm in Frederick. My favorite part was the incredible service. My order was takeout placed over the phone. In the 5 minutes I was in the place I saw the man behind the counter treat each customer with respect and enthusiasm. Environment was clean and organized. Clearly takes pride and has passion in his business. When I was the last customer out I started my car and lo and behold, he took the time in between customers to go out and sweep the sidewalk in front of the door to make sure everything looked nice and tidy. 5 stars for this local business doing it right! read more

A friend and I frequent a restaurant across the street and EVERY TIME we leave we see the neon Jerk N Jive sign across the way and remind ourselves we needed to try it. It almost became a joke for us that we said it so much. We were concerned when we finally made it over to Jerk N Jive that it would be a let down...but it wasn't. You can just SMELL the flavor the moment you walk in. You'll know what I mean when you go. American foods just don't use the spices other cultures do. Everything was so flavorful! We each spent around $13 and left quite full. I ended up trying several sides (rice, plantains, mac n cheese) along with the chicken patty appetizer. He had the fish sandwich which was very big along with rice and mac n cheese. I had the curry on the rice while he had the gravy and we each insisted ours was better. I'm impressed and look forward to going back! Maybe I'll be looking across the street at my old usual place more often now. read more

I love Jerk N' Jive! Their food and service is top notch. I've ordered carry out during COVID-19 several times now and I cannot rave enough about them. They are taking all precautions to ensure the safety of their guests and employees: face masks, protective barriers, gloves, and a maximum of three guests inside at a time. Their food is BOMB. The jerk chicken is incredibly moist and flavorful. So is the jerk salmon. Their jerk sauce is the best I've had. I'm also obsessed with their macaroni and cheese. I've been telling everyone it's truly "Thanksgiving caliber." I highly recommend the coconut shrimp and beef patties as well! Both are awesome. I've been eating at Jerk n Jive since they only had one location. Recently I had decided to try Other Caribbean locations in Frederick. And I'll say confidently they do not come close. Jerk n Jive is consistently great. I usually get the patties (freshly baked not golden krust) goat, brown stew chicken or the coconut shrimp. Delicious! Their sides are premium too! My sisters from the UK visited and raved about how good the food was and is EVEN BETTER than UK Caribbean food! I still prefer going into the kitchen location because it's nice to see old faces. I was also looking to support a small minority owened business so that worked out! And, it so happens that I've been whipping up dishes in the kitchen inspired by dishes from Jamaica and Haiti so the timing was perfect insync. I ordered the oxtail with a side of plantain and collard greens on a bed of rice and peas. The oxtail was seasoned and cooked to perfection, different from how I had it growing up but amazing.
