1/4 chicken with mac and cheese
    Ericka B.

Went here to grab dinner on a Tuesday to take to the brewery across the road. I have to say that this is some pretty darn good food to accompany beer! The place is pretty unassuming as its in a strip mall, but the food was very good and the staff was super knowledgeable. Really the one woman working is probably the main reason that the takeout experience was so good. She promoted her home country of Jamaica proudly and taught us a good deal about the best way to eat the food we got and what some of it was. When they say on the website that they take pride, it shows! We ordered the 1/4 jerk chicken with mac and cheese as the side and the goat curry with callaloo. They both came with rice and "peas" which are really beans to us. Both dishes also came with a spicy and a sweet sauce which she told us to mix together for the perfect bite and she wasn't wrong. The chicken had a nice crispy skin to it, with a juicy center and the jerk flavor was not overpowering. It was perfect with the mix of sauces on it. The mac and cheese left a little more to be desired, but it was improved with the spicy sauce. The goat curry had good flavor, which came with the bones being left in, so be aware when eating. The callaloo was a surprise hit of the meal. It is kind of a cabbage like consistency plant that looks like spinach and it was flavored with garlic, pepper, and salt. I'd recommend giving it a try for the side. Overall good place with large portions for the price. We're so glad that we tried out the place while in town!

My first time here and I was impressed. The to-go boxes were wrapped in plastic wrap which is something I rarely see but definitely appreciate. The coconut shrimp had a lot of flavor and were perfectly cooked. The rice & peas was flavorful and good too. I did not like the cabbage, it was bland. That's all, it didn't taste like anything. My friend liked the jerk chicken, stating it was juicy and had an authentic "jerk flavor" By the time I made it home about 15 minutes, all the food was still hot. Overall the food was really good, I'll definitely return.

    Jerk Chicken Sandwich Lunch

I had a jerk sandwich with a side of rice and peas and the Mac and cheese. The sandwich was huge and the coco bread was soft and tasty. But that's it.... The sandwich had some type of mayo on it that was too much in quantity and flavor. It completely took the attention away from the jerk chicken. The rice and peas had zero flavor and was dry. The Mac and cheese was bland and I hate seeing the curdled pieces of egg in Mac and cheese. Get it outta here!! I was so disappointed in the food here. Getting in and out of the parking lot was a hassle. Maybe it was the day I went. I felt like the jerk chicken pieces were good but the amount of that mayo that was in the sandwich made the whole thing inedible.

First time visit and it was date night, Music and decor set the vibe. Our server JUAN was very friendly, professional and a pleasure. Hubby ordered the burger - he said it was one of the best burger, lots of the flavor! I ordered the jerk chicken tacos - it delicious!! Great place for drinks and dinner!!

    Brown chicken and Sweet Potatoes

It might look kind of sketchy being on a little outlet near a papa johns, but do NOT let looks fool you. This is the best Jamaican food I have ever had. The sweet potatoes were better than my mom's!!! (Don't tell her I said that...) And I am not a spicy person, I even asked for the least spiciest thing and they delivered on that - the brown chicken (not sure if it was brown curry?). It was perfect, falling off the bone, not too spicy but had a little kick to it. I was honestly very impressed with the quality of food. Would absolutely go back for more!

    Hot Bar for Lunch

Once again, a coworker and I was working in another part of the state and we were looking for lunch. We decided on Caribbean and found this restaurant in Frederick. The directions had us in circles at first. You can never trust the lady on the iPhone Maps app. Lol! The restaurant sits right next to Papa Johns in the same strip mall as Habitat for Humanity. It's a small restaurant but there is enough seating for you to sit and eat, if you choose to. I settled on ordering the Jerk Chicken sandwich. I got the spicy. My coworker ordered the Jerk Chicken (white meat) plate with rice and peas. It took a while for our food to come out but we didn't mind. You can't rush good food. Even though I had spicy, it wasn't too spicy for me. I really enjoyed my sandwich. The best part about it was the coco bread. It was so soft!! I could've eaten just the bread with butter on it. It was that good. It was one of the best jerk sandwiches I've had. I didn't order any sides so I can't speak on those but my coworker's rice and peas and plantains looked yummy. If you're in Frederick and you haven't tried this place, stop in one day. The food is great, the people are friendly and you'll leave with a full belly. That's for sure!!

Coconut Shrimp Dinner, oxtail stew dinner, Collard Greens, Macaroni and Cheese, Rice and Peas
    Rebecca S.

Got the Oxtail stew w/ rice & peas, Mac and cheese, collard greens. It was SO GOOD! Meat is fall-off-the-bone tender and wonderfully flavorful. The entree is considered a "dinner" option (comes w/ 2 sides), but it's available all day. Came with peas & rice and we were able to pick 2 additional sides. The greens had a little heat to it, and I enjoyed it very much. Coconut shrimp was also DELICIOUS. They are made-to-order and also came with rice & peas. Sweet and slightly fried, it is so good that I ate all the shrimp with their tails. Portion size is substantial. You could probably split any of these orders 2-way and get a couple beef patties (also delicious) for a nice meal. The guy who was taking our order and payment was very kind and polite. I will definitely return.

Oxtails with red beans and rice.

I had decided to participate in Lunar New Year my style. Since 2021 is the year of the Ox, I celebrated with OXTAILS! I never had Oxtails before so I don't have a point of reference to compare. Either way, these were so incredibly tender and flavored, I will most certainly order them again. In fact, as I am typing, I have an order of chicken curry on the way! LOL. The RED BEANS AND RICE were perfect in how they were seasoned. Honestly, the best I've had to date. The same can be said for the CABBAGE as well. Both sides were cooked to perfection. The flavors from everything was the ideal marriage. I am ashamed it took me this long to try out Jerk N Jive. This is certainly my new favorite place to eat in Frederick. If you haven't eaten here...click the button NOW. You will not regret it! Finger-Lickin' Good! ***UPDATE*** I tried the CURRY CHICKEN today and the MAC N CHEESE. The curry chicken was fall of the bone tender and the flavor was about average..pretty decent. The MAC N CHEESE was surprisingly bland. I added pepper. So far, the winning dishes are the Oxtails, Red beans and rice, and cabbage. Id still get the curry chicken if I am in the mood for it. But Id skip the mac n cheese.

Gigantic portion of chicken and spiced just right. The fried plantains were caramelized and tasted like dessert!

Do you offer any gluten free options?

They may try and tell you the plantain but the fryer they use is cross contaminated. Perhaps the greens, but gluten-free isnt their specialty.

After a very long hike in the morning, the wife and I decided to pick up something for lunch. And while looking for something new in the area, the wife decided to give this place a shot. We stopped by the place which is tucked in between some other warehouse stores, in the corner, not on the main road. We decided to order our food and Chef Pat was so kind and professional, he stopped by our car in the parking lot as we were struggling to find the place. The food we ordered is in the pictures, jerk chicken, Ackee & Saltfish, Mango Rum Cake, conch fritters, plantains and some beans and rice. We were running late, so the chef said they will deliver the food to our place. When the food was delivered to us, there was some miscommunication between what was ordered vs. delivered. However, when we called them, they apologized for the mistake and took care of it right away. After all this, I was, tbh, a little upset. And we sat down to open our delivery boxes since we were super hungry. As the lids opened, the aroma of the food filled the area. My frown turned into a smile right away. Now, I was getting excited to try the food, everything was packed very nicely for delivery, & was still nice and warm. Once we started tasting the dishes, I was floored. I have to say, by far, very very far, this is the best Caribbean food I have had in the US, thus far. The jerk chicken is cooked to perfection, I believe the chef mentioned they make it fresh everyday. The plantains were just so amazing, caramelized to perfection. The conch fritters were a perfect accompaniment with a sweet and spicy sauce. What truly left me speechless was the ackee and Saltfish, I cannot even begin to describe how good that dish was. I am a fan of Caribbean food now, if it's this good! To finish off, we split the Mango Rum Cake, where all we kept saying, after every bite was "yummm", as we kept closing our eyes to experience that perfect finishing touch to our meal. The food was cooked with a lot of skill, care and tons of love. The staff is coming up to speed and being trained, but the attitude of the chef is super professional and customer care oriented. A Hell Yeah 5 Star Review! Will keep going here, for sure. Wish you much success...!!!

Island Food To Go is an operation ran by Chef Pat, and you can really taste the authenticity in his food. You pre-order via calling the number or directly texting the number that is provided and then you can pick up the food curb-side, or you can have it delivered to your home. The jerk chicken was mind-blowingly good; the jerk marinade was so well-balanced and it had just the right amount of heat for my taste. The salt-fish and ackee dish was so delicious! Combine that with the red beans and rice and you have a comforting and delicious meal that is soul-satisfying. With each entree you have a choice of either white rice, yellow rice or red beans and rice. The mango rum cake we ordered was moist, buttery and perfectly baked. I can't wait to order their caribbean spice cake next time. There was a massive mix-up in terms of what was charged and what was actually delivered when the delivery driver delivered our food, but the business owner was quick to rectify the driver's mistake. They are still fairly new and fine-tuning their logistics, but with their level of professionalism and superior quality of food, I see this place becoming a big success. Can't wait to order my next meal from them!
