I've dined here twice and thought it had a nice ambiance overall and good service. The food was good, but not memorable in my opinion. The first time, we did the tasting menu, which was almost 3 years ago. The second time we went recently, we ordered à la carte. The meat quality is high here and it's a cute spot for a date night.

Like others have mentioned, the staff, atmosphere, overall experience was great, but the food was a bit uninspiring from a flavor standpoint. Expected bolder flavors from this fusion forward experience. Engaged in the tasting menu and perhaps that was where we made the mistake. Should have ordered more items outside the tasting menu and perhaps we would have had a different experience. As it is, we did try the shishito peppers and they turned out to be the best option. Cocktails were top notch and we did indulge multiple times. With so many options out there, first impressions are super important and we're not sure we'd return unless we hear about a bolder approach to the flavor profiles.

Private dining with standout service and admirable sustainability values, but the tasting menu didn't quite land for me. We dined at JEJU on June 25, 2025, for the Chef's Tasting Menu at $75/person in their private dining room with a party of 11. Let's start with the highlight: exceptional service! The team went above and beyond to accommodate us: attentive, warm, and professional from start to finish. I also want to applaud JEJU's commitment to whole animal butchery and their approach to sustainable meat sourcing. Their efforts toward reducing waste and running a whole animal program deserve real recognition. It's clear they've earned a solid base of support in Portland for good reason. Now, on to the tasting experience, This review reflects my personal palate, and the food, unfortunately, didn't meet my expectations. Banchan: - Kimchi was radish-heavy with very little cabbage, throwing off the balance. Spice was very mild. - Egg drop soup was overcooked in the first two rounds; final round improved but was forgettable. - Soft tofu was the clear winner here: smooth, flavorful, and comforting. - Fried green beans were limp, overcooked, and lacked seasoning. Small Shared Plates: - Pan-Fried Mandu looked promising but was overcooked and chewy. The bone broth helped salvage the dish. - Kampachi Crudo was beautifully plated but bland, lacked seasoning and depth. - Ssam platter had generous lettuce wraps but not much in the way of fresh herbs. I would've loved more mushroom variety. Unfortunately, the meat was tough and chewy, which made it hard to enjoy fully. Dessert: - JeJu Sundae was the highlight of the meal--playful, well-balanced, and satisfying and bursting with mango. - The Custard & Coulis fell flat in comparison. Drinks: I got the Holland March mocktail, which was okay. I was tempted by the "Only God Forgives" based on the ingredients, but the name alone made me pass, so I guess I'll never know! Atmosphere & Amenities: - Private dining room includes a karaoke setup via the Karafun app, which is a fun touch, though the song selection is limited. - The space itself is bright, modern, and beautifully designed: high ceilings, unique plants, and a good balance of minimalism and warmth. - Parking is tight (roughly 12 compact spaces in their lot), but plenty of free street parking and Kitty app spots are available nearby. Restroom Notes: Two single-stall, gender-neutral restrooms, functional but need some attention. No toilet seat covers, and the canvas wall art felt like a last-minute add-on rather than an intentional design choice. In all, I admire JEJU's values and community presence. They've built something meaningful in Portland, and their commitment to sustainability is clear. While the food didn't win me over this time, I hope to return in the future as their menu evolves to better match their mission and the strong foundation they've built.

We went to the Friends in Town dinner at Jeju last night featuring guest chefs Mei Lin from Daybird La and Brandon Jew. Overall we enjoyed the evening, the food, and festive atmosphere. My only criticism would be the price point for Portland was a bit steep considering each plate was a shared plate and drinks and/or wine pairing being additional charges.

One word to conclude: disappointment. The front desk host who checked us in is wonderful. She even gave us complimentary bubbles. I was excited and hopeful. However, everything went down hill after we got seated. My boyfriend and I decided to try Jeju's tasting menu for our anniversary celebration. However, it took our server around 25 min to even come to us and take our order/bring water. The one major disappointment is truly the time and service. Our reservation is at 8 pm. But due to the time and lack of service, we only got our first course of Banchan(Korean small side dishes) by 8:55pm, which is literally almost one hour into our reservations. The tasting menu dishes seemed okay. Nothing spectacular and definitely not worth the price + wait time. This isn't even an intimate upscale fine dining which can last 2 or even 3 hrs. The ambience is rather loud and our server seemed to be too busy to provide the bare minimum service. He offered to give banchan refill without me asking, but completely forgot about it. We decided to ask for the bill + dessert when the main meat course just came, so that we can save some time and not have to wait too long to try to flag him down. Overall, food itself is a 2.5/5. But considering the service, it's a 2/5.

The restaurant is really beautiful with great service, delicious dishes, and good prices. I loved everything! The only thing the people at my table didn't enjoy was the steak, I didn't try it myself because I don't eat red meat, but they said it was too bloody. All the other dishes were amazing, and the cocktails were very good. I definitely recommend this place!

Amazing New Years Eve Dinner !! 4 course meal - Banchan , starters, steakhouse , desert A few notable callouts Banchan - The egg custard was delectable a little sweet with the crunchy puffed rice did it Starters - the beef tartare was delicious - especially with the Asian pear Steakhouse - the grilled pork chops were delectable Desert - the pistachio cream brought it home

Dessert from the set menu. Custard with apricot gel and cream.

Very nice dining experience that bridges Korean and modern cuisine. Lovely presentation, slow paced, not the most food but because of the pacing and how rich everything is, we were content at the end. The decor inside is really cool, a mix of natural light, and cityscape bokeh effect with the colored ball lights. There's also tons of plants and fun trinkets to look around inside. The cocktails are also very on point.

Finally tried Jeju on a recent trip to Portland for my birthday. I was a fan of Han Oak, so was very excited to finally try their sister restaurant. The restaurant is inviting with good lighting and atmosphere. We chose to sit at the chefs counter which at first felt like we were sitting right in front of the wood fired oven until they turned on the AC - PHEW. I love sitting up there though and watching the hustle and bustle of the kitchen and prepping dishes. The staff were super friendly and lovely and we even got a complimentary dish for my birthday which was super generous and lovely of them. We ordered the tasting menu for 2 people. The banchan came out first and my favorite was the steamed egg and this silken tofu dish (which I didn't see on the current menu). The kimchi was a little on the salty side for me. We also had green beans as a banchan and that was delicious too. Then we had the fried mandu (korean pot stickers) and the flavor was good but since I consider myself a dumpling connoisseur, this was it for me. To me the dumpling skin was too thick which made it a bit heavy. The filling was good though. I just wished they rolled out the skin thinner Then the kanpachi crudo - this was delicious! light and tart in all the right ways. A definite must order. Nothing to complain about except if only we had more than 2 pieces each haha! We also got an additional dish for my birthday, thanks to our lovely server, and it was the osso bucco dduk bokki - WOW I'm so glad we got this. THIS was one of my fave dishes of the night. If you get this, definitely eat this while its hot! The rice cakes were cooked well, not too soft and not too hard, and the flavors from the stewed meat were amazing. Our main dish came - the Ssam plate (think korean bbq plate). It had a selection of barbequed meats, a sausage and then a side of creamy spinach and creamy champ potatoes. I really wanted to love this dish, but the meat was a bit on the overcooked side (a bit dry) and overly salted, I saw them salt the dishes quite a few times as we were sitting there. Korean food already has quite salty sauces to go with their meats, so the overly salted meats and sides were a bit much. The potatoes and greens were tasty but I wish they were not as salty to take the edge off the salty meat. Just needed some balance somewhere since they didn't serve rice with the dish (which might have helped with the saltiness). The dish itself was beautifully presented though, so if it wasnt for the salt... would have been 5/5. Dessert was a misugaru meringue and that was really good. And they also brought the most delicious yoghurt desert for my birthday which tasted a bit like the Milkis drink. Service/Atmosphere 5/5 Food 4/5 (would have been 5/5 if it wasn't for the saltiness)

Loved it! Great spread of food, amazing flavors and just an overall unique dining experience. I'd highly recommend to anyone looking for a fancier than average night out. V Service was good and dining room is cozy.

First time here and it was definitely a success. The location was very accessible and had a parking lot which was nice. We did the chef's tasting menu and it was a great way to try a lot of things. The banchan were delicious and the crudo was a standout. The ssam was a super fun menu item to try and the proteins were all very good. Dessert was also incredible. Everything was very shareable and they told us that for desserts, you get one per every two people so since we had three, we lucked out and got two which was nice! Also ordered a peaches and cream sundae which was tasty as well.

As a Korean, the idea of eating at a fancy Korean place is a little silly, but we went to try it. We thought the food was very good (if you're ok w/ spending some $) but no need for us to go back. I think their set menu for $75/person is the way to go to taste everything they have to offer. If you only want some specific cuts of meat or something they do have a la carte but you can easily spend more $ for less food that way. The meal consisted of: 4 banchan, Kanpachi crudo, pan-fried gyoza, ssam set (the meat lettuce wrap thing), & a custardy desert. The portions aren't huge but we left very full bc of the pacing that allowed us to take our time but we are smaller eaters. - Banchan: green beans, silken tofu, fluffy egg cake & kimchi. The green beans were completely flavorless & the kimchi was fine. It was not usual kimchi most Americans are probly used to but more radish cubes (깍두기). Good but wish it was more sour. The egg and tofu were quite good tho, & slightly more deluxe banchan than your average Korean restaurant. They will give refills if asked but won't offer them. - Kanpachi crudo: fish was fresh but all the sauce & garnishes had 0% flavor. I think she said it was a pea sauce...? - Gyoza: pan fried crispy one side and soft & steamed the other side. Quite good & the dumplings had a little soup in there, but I honestly kinda like the cheap frozen deep fried gyoza more, which might be a hot take I know. - Ssam (main course): for those that have tried KBBQ before this is a bit different as you don't cook it yourselves it comes cooked and it's a chefs choice selection of different meats. Here they have about 5 different cuts where most KBBQ joints have anywhere from 10-30 cuts, many of which are thin sliced beef which I was a bit sad they didn't have here. They have more kinda thick steak style cuts here, & their bulgogi is definitely not what I'd call bulgogi but tasted like pretty good steak. I was also surprised/worried to see sausage & bacon on the list bc that's weird and not Korean. The bacon tho was surprisingly good, thick enough to almost be Korean pork belly style but maybe even a bit better. The sausage wasn't good tho. Texture was off & not juicy. Also you don't do sausage for ssam. The lettuce selection was fresh, they gave a few sesame leaves too which I like & ssamjang (soybean paste). Wish there was a couple more things like whole garlic cloves and pepper slices but Americans don't usually care about that so I get it. - Dessert: good I guess, not much to say as I'm not a dessert guy. All in all, a very Portlandy/Korean fusion experience, interpret that how you will.

We recently discovered a hidden gem in Portland serving a delightful blend of Korean and American cuisine. Visiting for the weekend, we were lucky to snag one of the last Saturday night reservations via OpenTable. Though we didn't realize it was a prix-fixe menu until we arrived, the portions and selections were outstanding--exactly what we were hoping for. The ambiance is perfect for date nights or a girls' night out, with a cozy dining room, an open kitchen, and a small bar for counter seating. We noticed a few couples dining with their babies, but overall, it feels like a charming spot for adults to enjoy a night out. My only gripe is that we asked the hostess if we could get another table close to the glass door and she told us it was reserved for a special occasion. There were 8 other empty tables of 2 and she could've tried to accomodate us in any of those others away from the one we obviously didn't want to sit at, but she matter a factly walked away. This always sets the tone for guests and although we thoroughly enjoyed the food, this is something that could be worked on. The only real choices you'll make are from their impressive selection of sakes and wines, plus deciding whether to add sides--but don't miss the fried chicken! It might just be the best I've ever had. The pan-fried mandoo (dumplings), included in the prix-fixe, were absolutely divine, and the peach dessert was the perfect sweet finish to the meal. If you're in Portland, this spot is a must-visit!!

Drink options: I really loved how they circle around different local beer on tap. They also have a few bottled beer too. They have a cast amount of liquor too. Surprisingly, they had a new bottle of Hennessy when we finished the first (during our stay). Usually a lot of bars in hotels don't have it, so that was a major plus. They were really down to earth people. Pricing: I thought it to be fairly reasonable for a hotel, however I might just be jaded from Bay Area pricing (yikes). What I loved about this bar is that we were able to just chat with the bartender. I didn't feel like I had to go back to my room with my drink (which is usually the case). Visited Dough Sone Dumpling recently and I have mixed feeling about it. I wanted it to be great,…read morebut it was just average IMO. The best thing about it was the location, beautiful area right on the water and the restaurant itself was pretty. The food was fine, but nothing really stood out for me. Maybe I am spoiled living in Los Angeles where there are so many Dim Sum places and dumpling houses. The concept with this restaurant is that it is family style, so it is meant to share, which is great, but the portions I would are small for family style. The noodles are enough for one, dumplings and potstickers, I guess for a small family may be ok, but we had a large group, so we had to order 3-4 of each thing just so people could have some. Probably my favorite thing on the menu were the sweet and spicy cucumbers, although not spicy at all, which was a trend. The dishes that were supposed to be spicy were not, even when we asked for the chili oil, that somehow did not have a spice level to it that was measurable. We ordered cucumbers, noodles, potstickers, dumplings and baos all have options for fried and steamed we got some of each, fried rice, beef pancake rolls, five spice beef, spicy beef (which both tasted the same) and some other items. The best things for me were the cucumbers, the fried potstickers and the jasmine tea. They bring you the dishes as they are ready so the service is constant as they come out. Can be a little slow, but our server was nice and kept track of everything for us and made sure our drinks were full, thank you. Atmosphere - 5 Service- 4 Food - 3 If the location and atmosphere was not so amazing, probably would have given a 3 based on the food, not bad and some high points, but mostly just average IMO. Great vibes here though and would probably come back for that alone and see if it is a different experience with a smaller group or a single family. Enjoy!

They have a lot of Korean street food classics like kimbab, Duckbokki, corn dogs and such, even sikhye (sweet Korean rice drink). But what caught my attention was the Soondubu (soft tofu soup). While it was not the best I've had, it was still great for a food truck. Very reasonably priced at $14 too. Btw, if you are expecting it to be vegetarian, there is some beef and a tiny bit of some seafood. I wished they had it with the boiled raw egg but I get it since they're mostly to go. The food pod is pretty nice to sit and eat as well. It is attached to a bar and there is plenty of seating, and even an upstairs deck too.

On the day we went, there was a concert so the entire food pod was slammed. I think our order took about 20 min but we sat in the covered bar area and had a drink while waiting. The bulgogi bibimbap looked delicious and came with two sauces, the gochujang sauce and a spicy mayo sauce. I didn't care for the spicy mayo one, but I wish we had more gochujang sauce as there wasn't enough to mix into the dish. Over all it was tasty, and given it was a food cart it didn't have the crunch rice that I love which usually happens with the metal bowls and letting it sit. Overall a good dish and great option at the food cart. The menu has a lot of options in case you wanted to try different things.

I have no idea how they even got that here but it definitely enhanced the experience Our service was great too, very attentive and knowledgeable. They also have a very decent amount of vegetarian options. We started off with the corn kakiage and mushroom baos, both were very delicious and savory. Our favorite was the kimchi fried rice. It was so good I forgot to take a picture The drinks we got were amazing too, our favorite was the litchi martini for sure Finally for dessert we got the matcha tiramisu which was so creative and a no brainer for us because it was 2 of our favorite things in one 10/10 worth it Yes everything is pricy but for fine dining and the experience we thought it was all worth it Perfect for a special occasion

We came here for our annual work dinner with our coworkers…read more We ordered "WIDE VARIETY of appetizers" from the "Hot", "Cold" and "ITAMEMONO" sections to try and majority of the main entrees from "land" and "sea". Standout MUST ORDER appetizers for your time here are "garlic wok mussels" and "steak tartare". Mussels are incredibly well seasoned in what I see as an asian fusion type of soy sauce/hosin. Great tasting mussels, no sand and not overpowering sauce. The steak tartare was the standout, they handled the raw ingredients very well and milk bread complimented it very well. As for the entree, I had the 10z grilled Ribeye. It's greatly plated, I love the addition of the sauce, salt and wasabi. It came with pickled greens and salads. But for a high end restaurant, I was a bit dissatisfied and disappointed by the ribeye itself, it was hard to eat since it was abnormally very "CHEWY" which is not normal for a high cut steak. Although the 10z ribeye was the "best value" for your dollar due to its portions compared to other dishes, it being very chewy knocks Janken down as a whole for me. I want to preface I ordered it as medium rare. The highlight of my meal was the matcha tiramisu, wok mussels, and steak tartare. For a high end restaurant, I would say majority of your dollars goes into the aesthetic and nice atmosphere of the place since its accompany with a nice cherry blossom tree and great attentive staff. Food wise... definitely went into the plating and aesthetics, I can recommend ordering from the ITAMEMONO, and hot/cold section. I can't recommend any other dishes though, that'll be up to y'all to try. What stops Janken from getting a 5 stars from me is a defining must order "entree".
