Baked oatmeal Sticky bun
Sara N.

Fast service and giant sticky buns!! Clean bathroom! Baked apple oatmeal was good, you are supposed to pour milk over it, that is what makes it yummy.

Big belly breakfast
Jayson D.

Several locals told me Jeffrey's was the Marquette go-to for home cooked brekkie goodness. Stopped by around noon on a Sunday. Hostess took our name and phone number, then we waited in our car (covid protocols still in place; they're also still limiting seating, FYI). Twenty minutes later the cel rang and we got a two top. Server was cheerful and staff hustled and bustled to sling hot food to the tables. We ordered the French toast and a big belly breakfast (two eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes, and a short stack of pancakes). Food was on par with a greasy spoon short order joint, and everything tasted fine enough. The French toast is made with thick slices of cinnamon bread and tasted fresh. Pancakes weren't remarkable, but they were cooked all the way through and did the job. PRO TIP: Pony up the $2.50 and upgrade to real UP maple syrup. (If you're going out for breakfast I honestly don't know why you'd even bother with the high fructose food colored crap.) Coffee seemed weak and wasn't very flavorful, but lots of folks drank it anyway. And the portion of American fries I got as a side underwhelmed. They tasted great; I just wish I got an actual pile of them for the extra $3.95. I didn't regret my visit and my belly was full, but I'd probably see what else the area offers before coming straight back. :-D

Fried whitefish!

I'm on a absolutely breathtaking road trip in the upper peninsula of Michigan. I stop in Marquette for lodging and to try the whitefish everyone has told me about. I find Jeffrey's on top of a hill. I entered the place and there are more than a few other customers. I order the fried whitefish that came with soup, veggies, and fries. The dish arrives and it's a nice big piece of fish. The fish is very good with no leftover fish taste. I really enjoyed it and will do it again!

Small dining area. Order and pay at the counter. 7 tables. Small place…read more There is black duct tape on the floor, their cobbled stone linoleum is coming up. Why is this place even called Java Bay? They only have regular coffee or decaf. They give you a mug if you would like their coffee here. We took a pass. My husband prefers lattes or mochas or flavored coffees. The staffer at the counter suggested we go across the street to Velodrome Coffee, since they have no good coffee options. We will have to stop by elsewhere to get a decent coffee for the hubby. Ordered the mushroom omelet, side of rye bread and the hash tag. No berries for the sweet oats & berries - can't order that then. I wasn't able to get a physical receipt. I was told I will get an email. It's been over an hour and no email so far. Would it be so hard right print out a receipt for me? At the moment I am regretting our choice to come here immediately. Our order decreased by their unavailability of key ingredients for the oatmeal. We could have gotten hot oatmeal for free back at the hotel and wild berries at least. They have no non-pork sausage or non-pork options at all. Just eggs as a substantial meat option. :( Not an extensive menu for sure. There was a short blonde, light brown wavy hair at the bottom of my omelet, found it after two bites into the omelet. It was sadly at the bottom of the omelet, so, I didn't see it until I cut into it. Gross. I brought it to the staffer's attention, she couldn't see it. I had to pull it out in front of her to see it. She didn't manage to apologize and instead asked if I would like her to remake it, or what, eat the omelet contaminated with hair in it? This breakfast experience gets worse by the minute. I had to wait for my redo of my food, she informed me it would take 10 more minutes. Thinking it was because the skeletal cook in the back has other orders to do for the folks that arrived and ordered after us to get their food. Another table of food out for another group of guests that came after us. I got to eat my omelet about 15 minutes after my husband finished his breakfast hash tag. The hash tag was okay. Oh good. I finally got my redo mushroom omelet 15 minutes later and after two tables that arrived and ordered after us got their food before my redo food due to a hair. I see they have their priorities in disorder. Good for them. My second mushroom omelet has no hair in it. Yay! The only flavor is pepper on top of the egg, which is wrapped over the eggs, tomatoes and mushroom. Mushrooms are good, lack luster as far as flavor though. At least they use fresh mushrooms. The rye toast is soggy from the omelet. And they placed two butter packets on top and over the toast. I am sure many hands have been on these packets. This breakfast trip has extended over an hour of our life. I am left thoroughly disgusted and disappointed in the abominable service of this place. Not super comforting hearing the cook in the back sneezing, twice. Hope it's just allergies. I am glad I can't see back there at all. Given the output of the food so far. Cleanliness and good customer service doesn't seem to be a thing here.

Waited 34 mins after they opened for this. Nope. Not coming back. We were just the second order…read moreright after they opened. All three cook and wait staff keep running the mouth talking about their weekend so hence the long wait time. The omelette egg quality was under par, not enough cheese, the toast not even hot enough to melt butter. No milk or any hot chocolate to order. Very little coned beef in the corn beef hash. Just crap.

We prefer bar service over dining service, seem to be generally more attentive and the two staff work as a team. Brandon is waiting on us. He's friendly and good at customer service. Ordered the whitefish dip, baba Ghanouj, superior whitefish tater tots, tabouli salad, superior whitefish chowder, superior whitefish tacos with black pepper fries and a spicy crispy chicken sandwich and cabbage slaw. $111 They do charge a 4% transparency fund: employee retention, living wages, staff happiness. Written on the bottom of your bill. The dishes are scratch made, in house. Nice! The tabouli is too, has some mixed greens in it. There is something sweet in the dressing or the buckwheat, not my thing at all. Rest of the salad is good though. The baba ghanouj on its own is quite garlicky, slight Smokey flavor to it. It doesn't work with the pita crackers. Not loving this at all. The whitish dip is good. My hubby liked the sweet pickled for watermelon rind garnish, I didn't like them much. The spicy chicken sandwich on the brioche bun is really good. The chicken is super crispy. It's quite good. The whitish tacos are good. The whitefish seems to be blackened, really nicely. The fish is light and perfectly cooked. The whitefish chowder is so good! The tater tots are so delicious. No slouch here. Crunchy and so yummy! Food was so unique and quiet food. The side pepper fries are and slaw ate both a bit blah, compared to the majority of our flavorful meals Service is top notch.
