I have been going to this practice and (Dr. Kernecklian before). Great, efficient service. Can't really ask for more from a dentist.

I had three cavities filled here this morning at 7am, and if I'm giving them five stars after that…read moreyou know it must be a good dental office. I hadn't had the healthcare to go to the dentist since 2017 (this is the richest country in the world?!), and they took the time needed to take X-rays, clean my teeth, and assess my gum health after four years. Three cavities is never good news, but they walked me through the problem, how they planned on filling them, and how much it would cost. They also got me scheduled to take care of it 36 hours later. The actual procedure took a bit over an hour and was relatively painless albeit clearly uncomfortable given the work necessary. They used a numbing cream before injecting my jaw with localized anesthetics and set up Nailed It on the TV hanging above the chair I was in to distract me. All in all, it wasn't fun, but they made needed healthcare bearable and unintimidating. The check up was $62 with my insurance and the three fillings $193. The location is right along GRTC's route 14 bus, so it's fairly transit friendly too.

I came here for two routine exams and teeth cleanings based on a recommendation from a neighbor who…read morehappens to be a dental sales rep and had a horrible experience. This practice has poor bed side manner and is designed to squeeze every dollar that they can out of you. I do not recommend this practice to anyone seeking care. Setting up appointments was rather simple and the office was technology forward, clean, bright and new. The building was recently renovated and they have a large parking lot. However, it was obvious that behind their fancy facade lies the drive to pad their bottom line. My first check up here was pretty comprehensive with all the x-rays being taken and teeth properly scaled. This took approximately 45 minutes into the hour long appointment. The hygienist spent a good 10 minutes trying to explain for me why I should pay for the up charge for fluoride even though it already covered under my insurance plan. The hygienist and dentist spent the last 20 minutes of my appointment creating a sense of urgency telling me to prevent my teeth from cracking that I needed to buy from them a mouth guard, electric tooth brushes, teeth whitening, etc all of which I get for free from my dental sales rep neighbor. My second appointment consisted of a longer sales pitch than actual care. My second cleaning here with the same tech didn't even last all of 10 minutes, which is inadequate to receive a proper scaling done, she didn't even floss my teeth. I received another repeated lecture regarding why an up charge for the fluoride was highly recommended even though it was already covered by insurance. Followed by another 20 minutes berating me on why I did not want to proceed with making an mouth guard and signing up for their teeth whitening treatments. I've never had any issues with my teeth and I cannot imagine how this practice would try and extort me if I had actually had an issue with my teeth. This has left a bad taste in my mouth and I cannot recommend anyone come to this practice.

Greetings fellow Yelpers,…read more I don't live f/t in RVA but visit frequently as my daughter is a college student here. While Airr BB'ing in their neighborhood a year or so ago I came across the JK DDS office in a lovely house converted to dentist office on the corner and needed a 'clean and check' so thought why not give them a try. Fast forward to yesterday I had a small pain, (popcorn kernel emergency : ) I wanted them to look at and they immediately worked me in first thing in the morning and quickly took care of the issue. I'd like to give them a proverbial 'shout out' for a friendly warm genuinely kind and compassionate staff ~ from the front desk to the hygienist to the Dr to check out ~ this is a First class operation. 2 thumbs up 5 stars! If you're ISO of a lovely comfortable place to take care of your family dental needs this is it. Scott

All was well, even saw the transition of the main dentist son come aboard and being a father myself was great to see this from a Legacy perspective. In the last few years the quality of the people in the front desk, main the office manager has not only shocked me, but sad to see. My situation was this: I am a business owner and travel more at certain times, I have conveyed this for years as a patient/client relationship kind of deal: wife and kids visit this office, oh and also in-laws (they have recommended me to this office) so has been maybe even 20 years of family going to this office I would think, back to the issue: I go to an appointment and while sitting there was told hey, can we reschedule you for another date, I am a make lemonade out of lemons kind of person, so ok no problem, now have I missed some appointments due to travel time, yes, but would pay the $50 on top of co-pays. One day in speaking with the office manager she with a nasty energy said I can't make any appointments for you, I asked why and she stated that John does not want you as a patient, I was shocked and dis-belief, due to the relationship for years, it's not that dentist can turn anybody away, but for me whatever the reason was for was never discussed as hey, you missed 2 appointments and these are our rules, was a bit disappointed to see a business office handle this situation that way. One the office manager could have made the situation a situation that could have caused a bigger issue by the way it was handled, 2 the trust is broken by the way it was handled and now the office may lose 6 clients, due to one conversation that could have been had, sad to see, I hope the office manger does not destroy them or cause a major issue there

The initial intake process is a bit, Ngl. There's paperwork, lines, and a waiting room that fits about 40 people to match 2 intake assistants and up to 5 payments assistants. The first appointment will need both intake and payment since they prefer payment upfront, though I do like that further appointments are paid with possible payment plans. The dental student assigned to your case will have a fully licensed dentist overseeing their work though they don't hover, just double check your/their progress. There might be a bit of walking and back and forth if you need imaging, just based on the layout of the school. The atmosphere of the school itself is one that fosters wisdom and questions which I love since how else does anyone learn? The student helping me hadn't had the opportunity to use the imagine machine before (or maybe just not [often] enough to remember) but other students were about to assist. Overall, I'm sure the experience will depend a little on the student that helps. Mine is excellent, and I'm sure that's the case for the majority of students. The dentists overseeing things are friendly and helpful without being condescending. Would definitely recommend. The only reason for a star off is the length of time it may take. Not the students' fault, as this is a school where they're learning, but it did take a while.
