I was recommended to go to RR for the patient experience! They have kind front desk staff, and even offer you a comfort menu to be able to have a relaxing experience at the dentist. I have had amazing experiences at River Run Dental. I've seen several providers and all were top notch I dislocated my jaw a couple years ago and was not in a position to pay for any sort of surgery. The staff began calling as many surgeons in the area as they could in order to find one in my network and get a benefits verification for me beforehand. This is without me even asking!! They could sense my hesitation and jumped on it. Meanwhile, the dentist massaged my jaw for a good 10 minutes. She called one of her colleagues who's an oral surgeon and got his opinion and i was able to avoid surgery all together thanks to his diagnosis and my dentist's thorough massage. I am so used to begging for care and having to navigate medical situations without assistance. But here, it felt like all hands on were deck to get me care & coverage, and I didn't have to ask for anything. I cannot recommend them enough. This is how healthcare should be. read more

Do NOT get Invisalign here. It is a complete scam. They sell you on the scanning app as an added bonus but it is actually the only way your progress is tracked. You never see an actual human to check in on your progress, they rely solely on AI tech to look at the photos you scan in from your phone. They will also tell you that you can reach out with any questions over the app but in reality, the messages are not monitored. It took over a month for me to get a response to a question even though I made multiple attempts to message on the app and call the office. I escalated my concerns to a supervisor and was told they would look into my case and follow up but they never returned my call. When I showed up for my scheduled appointment to pick up my permanent retainers they didn't even know what I was there for. The disorganization and lack of notes on patients is WILD. At one of my cleanings the hygienist made multiple comments about how I had an excessive amount of glue on my teeth from the attachments, which leads me to believe they didn't even install those correctly. I am unhappy with my final results but not willing to stay on this hamster wheel with them. In the end I was scammed out of a lot of money and they even messed up my final permanent retainer so I'm going to have to pay for a new one. read more

River Run used to be patient friendly and communicative. I have had to change from Shrader Toad office to the West End office due to no one answering the phone or returning calls. i ordered a night guard back in early April. I was told it would be there in abut 3 weeks and would be called to pick it up. It is now May 26 and I still do not have the night guard. I have made numerous calls without any explanation why the product had not been delivered. it appears that River Run has gotten too big to cater to their existing patients. customer service is non existent. Love this dental practice! So professional and friendly and the office is spotless. River Run has multiple offices, I visit the one on Scrader Rd. I've only been a patient for a year, though in that time I've had 2 cleanings, a crown and an occusal guard, every visit has been great. The team is efficient yet personable. They take the time to explain what they are doing, billing and answer questions. The waiting room is open and comfortable. They offer coffee, tea, water and snacks while you wait. A plus for me is they have apps as early as 630am so I can go before work. read more

Unfortunately, I do not recommend this business for dental health needs. I consider my dental health to be part of my basic healthcare, and therefore I expect my dentist, hygienist, access staff, and billing department to provide efficient and quality healthcare. I submitted a request for an emergency visit and attempted to call the office 3x over a 24 hour period. My voice messages and online request have not been addressed to this day. I was highly encouraged/persuaded to begin Invisalign. The Invisalign "rep?" incorrectly estimated how long my treatment plan would be by almost 4 months, and incorrectly quoted me how much I'd pay out-of-pocket by greater than $500. I was not made aware of these drastic margins until after I'd already signed paperwork and began the treatment plan. When making payments online, my balance would often not be updated, reflecting a higher number than what was actually owed. When attempting to contact billing, I never spoke with someone during my initial call. They always contacted me a few days later, if at all. Due to the difficulties I experienced with patient access staff and the billing department, I transferred my care to RVA Dental. This establishment feels less like a business, as I previously described River Run to be, and more like a health service. My patient experience greatly improved. They have better business hours, including Saturday times for basic cleaning. I see the same hygienist each visit and the dentist makes an effort to check in, ask how things are, and have basic small talk. The staff genuinely appear happy to be at their jobs. These are all things River Run lacked. As someone who works in healthcare, I know that there is always a profit and bottom line involved, and it can make the job hard. I totally get that. But I also understand how important communication and access is to the patient experience. I do not recommend River Run to my family or friends and I unfortunately give in 1 star also. read more

This dentist used to be great, but it seems they have grown too much and service has gone down hill. The worst is the text messages they send you about having a balance due. They do not send you an itemized bill explaining what insurance covered and what is left. In what world do people just pay a bill without any detail. You have to call the office to get the details. Just to add an update to this review. I went to a new dentist today. They took xrays, did a 3-d Scan, did an oral cancer screening (did not charge extra for that by the way) and told me my gums, teeth and jaw were in excellent condition. I had no tartar build up, outside what was normal and I absolutely did not need the "deep cleaning" I was told was imperative by this practice. Disgusting. Glad I found an honest provider. read more

I have been a patient at RRD for years and never had any issues. In fact, I really liked Dr. Sinclair. However, I had a 6 month appointment which was scheduled at the last appointment, received no less than 6-8 reminders, requests for confirmation, and requests for updated info, to which I responded every time. Showed up for my appointment only to be told I'm not on the schedule due to a change in their "system." No one tried to accommodate me. I was told someone would call me to reschedule. No one did. I called every day for 3 days afterward, got voice mail every time, and emailed through the website. No one responded. I finally presented myself in the office to ask for my records, which I still have not received either. I will not be going back. I was brought back to a room to be told it was time for a filling. I was there for a cleaning. They checked me in as Susan yet took me to another room which was prepped for another Sarah? Two huge mistakes off the bat. I go back to the waiting room only to be informed that my 9am appointment on 7/14 that was made early April was CANCELLED. I was NOT notified and took off work for this appointment. I was told "you can wait and see if a 10am appointment doesn't show up and have their spot" ????? No effort to reschedule or fit me in. I have never ever ever ever enjoyed dental visits ( I mean who does?)! I had a few good dentist, with nice dental offices, but nothing prepared me for the experience I had today! My tooth was bothering me, and I don't play when it comes to my teeth. I have crossed paths with many Yuck Mouth's in my life, I'm shook! My insurance coverage provider emailed me a list of practice's, and of course I research everything they send me, or I try lol. I was intrigued by the name of the practice. What the heck is a Dental Spa? I have been to spa's before, but never heard of, or been to a dental spa. I googled the practice and they looked good to me, so I called and scheduled an appointment. I arrived and followed the practice's COVID protocol. I responded to the text I received indicating I should wait in the car, until someone comes for me. I received a text message guiding me through everything regarding my visit, it's so amazing!! They communicate efficiently. I received a call immediately regarding my insurance. They wanted to make sure I'm not billed unnecessarily. I received a text directing me to the electronic medical forms, ( I hate paper and having to complete documents in the office) and I didn't have to create an account either!! It's the little things. I received a reminder text, which is perfect since my calendar alerts have been screwing up! Thanks T-Mobile for the lousy service. Anyways, I was given a tour of the facilities, and it's amenities. Yes I said, "Amenities!" It's a dental spa for Pete's sake, of course it has bells and whistles. They have a snack and beverage station, (really nice one too!) The facility itself blew me away! I kept alluding, at it being a woman's idea, lol ( not that some guy's can't, but this is next level kinda stuff, IJS). I arrived to the exam room, and I was immediately greeted by the hygienist, who explained everything to me in detail regarding my visit. She then shows me a list of complimentary perks to make my visit oh so special. I thought I was being punked! I had her repeat it 3x's, and then processed what she told me, and then re-read it myself. Get this, you have the options of cold eye mask, relaxing scents, headphones, e-reader and some other comforting items. She asked me if I wanted the massage chair on, I thought I was home. I was about to kick off my shoes, and do the Al Bundy (Married with Children). I can't stop gushing over this place!! The customer service was on point! It was like a happy place, but for pain. I have other appointment's, so I have not actually had dental work yet, ( it was an emergency visit) but I will update after. They're doing things the right way! Just an update on my visit among COVID. Still amazing! They have always been a sanitary place, but have a few extra measures. Text when you arrive and a tech comes to get you & takes your temperature. Then in you go with some hand sanitizer & a mouth rinse. Everyone wears a mask, and you must as well until you get to your chair. My appointment itself was great as usual. To my surprise, they were still offering most of the comfort menu! However no paper copies, just a QR code to find the pdf menu. I tried the essential oils & eye mask today. All the staff was amazing to work with and thorough! read more

Thoroughly impressed with RRD. It has been over 3 years since I last visited the dentist and I was really anxious about coming in because I knew my teeth were in terrible shape. Upon walking in, you have to double take and ask yourself, is this the dentist? Or a spa? It's SO nice. Complimentary snacks, coffee, tea, water etc. They also have a treat bag waiting for you when you arrive. It's SO nice. Both my tech and dentist had amazing bedside manners. They were both so empathetic and made me feel comfortable even though I knew my teeth were not in the best shape. That sort of empathy is what makes a difference!!! Currently on the phone for over 55 min. receptionist initially answered and was clearly disappointed to learn I am a new patient (her tone changed from cheery to nonchalant, terrible customer service) as though they prefer I hang up rather than go through the process to enter new patient information. If this office prefers new patients use the online process, then they need to communicate that to customers via automated answering service or verbally rather than create a poor first impression to a potentially new customer/patient. I don't know why I decided to catch up on all my medical appointments during covid, but here we are. I called and got an appointment the same week. They're not offering their normal spa menu services during this time, but it was still a great visit and I brought my headphones to try to drown out the scraping noises (am I the only person who HATES that??). They came out to my car, took my temperature, and then they took me right to the exam room. The whole visit took about 30 minutes, from cleaning to the doctor coming in to check on things. I've been a patient with River Run for well over 5 years. In the beginning they were great. The snack station, coffee/tea bar and little gifts they give for better comfort was a plus but dont let that fool you. They hardly ever answer the phone. After holding for a while to speak with someone, they disconnect the call and send you a text message only to say that someone will be in contact with you and they never reach out. I've literally had to go in person to schedule an appointment. There's been 2 separate occasions where I went in complaining of tooth pain and they gave me fluoride toothpaste and sent me on my way. They informed me that there was no cavity and that my teeth were just sensitive only to later tell me that I needed a root canal. On one occasion I guess the owner felt bad as he instructed the staff to book me with him just for him to say "no cavities, try this fluoride toothpaste but instead of rinsing, let it sit and you should notice improvement." A couple weeks later, no improvement and the pain was worse. I went in and was told that I needed a root canal. It seems like everytime it's always "you need a root canal." How does this go unnoticed? What happened to filling a cavity? The months/years I've been complaining and being given fluoride toothpaste when I should've been having a filling. Seems to me like they only care about the money and not the quality of service. There was one girl who was so rude and condescending when giving me my treatment plan. She didn't even provide me with accurate information. I ended up speaking with Amy who was phenomenal but sadly, she's one of a handful there who provide good customer service. River Run Dental sets the bar high when it comes to quality dental care and customer service, especially during the Covid era. I had delayed my usual twice yearly visit by a few months and was switching from a different provider, so I was ready for a cleaning but also nervous to try somewhere new -- but I'm so glad I did! Booking via their website was super easy and all of the new patient paperwork and accompanying signatures were completed digitally. They sent text reminders ahead of time and asked for a photo of my insurance card via text as well. On arrival, I replied to the text thread with the make, model and color of my car, and my hygienist met me outside to take my temperature and ask the Covid questions. I was checked in quickly and given a very brief tour and history. She offered the condensed comfort menu, but I had a work meeting on my mind, so I explained my time limitations and we moved forward with x-rays, the oral cancer exam, taking a model of my mouth, and the cleaning. It was all done really efficiently. Dr. Sinclair then stopped in and confirmed I didn't have any cavities, which was a relief, especially since my last dentist claimed I had a few last time I saw him (which I didn't believe and never took care of...trust your gut!). I was on my way in time for my meeting, -- oh and they gave me a sweet etched tumbler as a welcome gift. Such a nice touch. I can't believe this took me...3 years to finally pick up and transfer to this dentistry. No regrets! I decided to finally make the change because I was tired of driving out of my way for my cleanings and just not convenient. I got to try this place out when Yelp had an event here but my butt was too slow in signing up with them. But you know what? I'm glad it's now than never! Anyway, the process and appointment setting were easy to set up. I did my forms and set up through their website - very easy to use and complete. I set up my appointment pretty quickly - LOVE how I could easily set my appointment time and their website usage. They are COVID set up and prepared! You check-in from your car and they have their staff set up to come out and check you out before going in to get cleaned. I couldn't get the x-rays done because of the pregnancy but I'm actually looking forward to my next appointment in May. I'm intrigued to see how the next one will go because I'll be bringing my son to his first dentist appt to check out his lil teeths! **Also, check out their Instagram and see if they have some sort of new patient incentives going on. My initial visit there was alright, I suppose; but I should have paid attention to the red flags I got before I ever stepped foot in the office. This was when I was "instructed" to do a significant amount of data entry, the likes of which medical professions typically pay their own staff to do. I liked the concept of the place. When a huge chunk of my time is taken from me, I find it stressful - even when it is something as important as my own health. So I thought this place would be good to quell that. I was wrong. For my second appointment, it was confirmed multiple times for 3:30 PM. I arrived on time and then waited in the lobby for twenty minutes before the receptionists told me, "We are looking for a hygienists for your appointment. We changed your appointment to 3:00 a bit earlier, but since you didn't confirm it, I guess you did not get that message. We sent you a text." I checked my phone, and lo and behold there is the text unilaterally changing my appointment to be thirty minutes earlier than scheduled. When I think about it now, I find it disrespectful in so many ways, but disrespect for my time is disrespect enough. I figure: if the staff there cannot be relied upon to do data entry or even schedule an appointment, then what in the world are they going to do inside my mouth? I excused myself, and subsequently realized it would be best to find another dentist. Especially after today: three weeks later, I get a text alerting me to an unpaid invoice. I was curious about it, and took the time to look into it, and in the process learned that RR Dental is not crediting the invoice by the amount that my insurance insists they paid to them. PLEASE BEWARE!!! I do not normally write reviews at all especially negative ones but this dental practice is horrendous. I have been a patient here for several years and was talked into getting Invisalign through them. I paid in full and was given a dental monitoring app which was a complete disaster. River run very rarely answers the phone and when you call you get placed in a call line with a number that never goes through. They don't answer texts and constantly rescheduled appointments last minute. They also lost my scans and made me drive all the way back in to have them redone. They also messed up my Invisalign sets to where they were cutting into my gums and would not help file them down. I had to use nail clippers at home to correct them. I have had nothing but issues since getting Invisalign through them so I decided to transfer to an actual orthodontist because no one at river run is even licensed as an ortho to give Invisalign. My trays are registered under an orthodontist that lives in NC that I have never seen or have had any contact with. I barely even saw my dentist even though I repeated concerns about my teeth hurting and not feeling aligned. I was repeatedly told she was busy and unable to see me by an assistant named C C. I also was supposed to get professional whitening included for free with my treatment however all I was given was an at home whitening kit to do myself that had a quick expiration date. When I inquired about it they said if I wanted professional whitening I would have to pay for it. I asked to speak to a treatment coordinator or manager on several occasions and was told they were busy or understaffed. After having enough of this place I kindly asked for a partial refund from River Run per the contract to transfer to an actual ortho and have not been able to contact River Run even though I was promised a call back multiple times. This place feels like a huge scam where they take your money and then treat you like garbage. I have never been able to afford dental care growing up so as an adult I was so excited to be able to get Invisalign to fix an insecurity I have had with my teeth that was causing issues with my bite but this place complete took that away from me by treating me so horribly. Now I am scared to have dental work done out of fear of being taken advantage of again and left with a misaligned bite that I am now having to pay another company to repair. read more

All I can say, is Thank You to my niece who recommended this dental office! The sleek and spa-like ambience instantly relaxed me. I was given a tour of the office upon my arrival and informed of their many customer appreciation programs. As I was led into the dental chair, I was offered a comfort menu (I chose a plush blanket) and was gifted with a welcoming thermal coffee cup. The hygienist was incredibly thorough, informative, gentle and friendly. I learned more about my teeth in this one visit than all the years I spent at my previous dental office. I wasn't rushed so if you're a first time patient, plan on an hour and a half or so for your first visit as the comprehensive exam takes awhile. They even did an oral cancer screening. I was duly impressed. And yea, no cavities! As I checked out, I was also given a gift card for my niece's referral and no wonder they have such a great referral program... this place epitomizes the phrase "word of mouth"!! Update: Another 5 stars *****... I went in for a crown... yes, a crown for a queen! The temporary crown was quite a trip! Tunisia, my amazing dental assistant, not only explained the procedure step by step but she indulged my questions. The cement and cord they use for the crown tastes terrible, but the end result is worth the distaste. (Can't someone make it taste like strawberries?) I had no problems with the temp crown. A couple weeks later my permanent crown was ready! I was astonished at how easily the temp crown was removed by Tunisia's expert hands! (I went thru a horrible ordeal from my previous dentist, so was amazed at how easy and flawless this was!) She and Dr. Sinclair did a fabulous job fitting and adjusting my crown and now my crown is bright and shiny! Tunisia said her job was "fulfilling"! I have been coming to RIVER RUN for a while, since they were Rusnak Family dentistry and have referred my family and friends because of how much I enjoyed my experience. Over the couple of years, while they have expanded and provide a great aesthetic experience, I feel like the patient experience has suffered greatly. I have a hard time getting an appointment, I can barely get anyone on the phone, I never receive a call back when promised concerning matters that need to be taken care of. I feel like the patient is now having to foot the cost for a-lot of these renovations and expansions. At this point the visual aesthetics do not seem worth the decline in service. I will not be recommending them any more unless I see a change in this but I doubt that will happen. I am completely sadden to even have to write this review but at this time I am exhausted with this practice. read more

This practice used to be wonderful, great customer service, reliable apts and great experience for procedure. Now, they are more concerned about charging you for the next thing, getting the next client, and adding on to your bill vs holding your apt. Often they are overbooked and eager to push you out. What you see below is true about their primary communication via text than a call. I can understand growing a business, but none of the people I trusted are there anymore - usually not a good sign. And the last handful of months have proven that to be true. I had a great experience here yesterday as a new patient. I did all of my paperwork online a few days ago, and replied to the text reminder when I arrived with my car type. Someone came out and took my temperature in the car, and then gave me a tour of the practice. The guide mentioned that all of the dentists are MCV graduates and I think that is awesome. Everything is so white and light, very nice and not at all dentist office like. I was offered a beverage (plain sparkling water - my favorite) and was taken back to my room. All of the chairs are massage chairs (amazing) and I was offered a selection of amenities. I chose the neck pillow and the eye mask. The mask was warm and it was kind of nice to not be able to see what was going on. I was also given a nice welcome gift of a reusable insulated tumbler. Very nice touch! I met my hygienist and she explained what she was going to do. She did a ton of x-rays (I was slightly overdue for a check up) and then began my cleaning. The TV in the room with CC on was nice to break up any time she was out of the room. The cleaning took a while (as expected) but then Dr. Rusnak came in and introduced himself and did my exam. I am not sure if I just lucked out and got him as my dentist, or if he sees all new patients. I guess I will find out in May when I go back. After I was finished (no cavities - yipee!) I went to schedule my next appointment and pay for my fluoride treatment. I was told upfront that this was a $30 expense that insurance does not cover. It was nice to know this beforehand. I also got to keep the eye mask, that was a nice touch. I don't know if I will go as far as to say I am looking forward to my next visit (who loves the dentist?) but I will say I won't be dreading it when my next appointment comes around. read more

There is a lot of upselling and too many xrays performed (every visit) which can't be healthy. The dental chairs have massagers in them and I can feel the rollers pressing into my back even though the massager is turned off. Very uncomfortable! The out-of-pocket charges I incurred there were much higher than my previous dentist, although my dental insurance was the same. There is a different greeter at the front desk every time I go there! I guess they don't pay well or treat them well? Anytime I called in for an appt, I got voicemail and the office never calls back. Very aggravating! read more

The Staff is exceptional at every level, you will feel as though you are getting treated special. It's a really nice dental office and you definitely don't feel like you're at the dentist. A true spa experience, a massaging chair and a warm eye mask made my dental visit pretty amazing. Would highly recommend

Beautiful, clean, great smelling practice, all the things that put your mind at ease when you're at the dentist! I got a tour of the office and was told the history of the practice before I was taken back to the room. Once in the room, I was given a menu to choose from - snacks, drinks, essential oil, even laughing gas for an extra charge. They were moving really fast so I didn't get anything to eat or drink but it's cool that it was offered! After that, they gave me a blanket as a welcome gift since it was my first time. Morgan was so sweet and had a great personality! Dr. V was really nice and answered all my questions to the best of her ability and gave me a referral for a specialist. I appreciate when someone doesn't try to take on something that they know a specialist should do. read more

Ok I never thought I would say this but I love my dentist office. Yep ok I said it. Pigs somewhere are flying. Seriously though it has more of the look of a spa rather than a dentist office. I love when you walk in there's a coffee machine as well as la croix and bottled water and some snacks to choose from. Also all of the form updating is digital via iPad which is easy and saves the hassle of paperwork. Also while you're getting Debra things done the chairs lightly massage your back. They also have a "comfort menu" where you can get blankets, neck pillows, eye masks etc. The only reason for 4 stars is sometimes communication isn't great. I've gotten several texts as reminders saying text to confirm or change and I do and it never seems to go through. Fix that and 7 stars!!! read more

I'm beyond impressed with my first visit today. The atmosphere is modern and relaxing. The experience was one of a kind. It started with a tour and ended with a gorgeous reef blue Yeti carryall bag and some goodies. (If you start Invisalign with River Run Dental, you get to choose between a Yeti bag or Airpods. I just love this promo they are currently having). It was well worth the 2 hour drive. Front Desk staff was amazing! My hygienist, Sam, was sooo sweet and had a great personality and kept me engaged the whole time. I had not been to the dentist in some time due to Covid and she literally was so patient and gentle with me. Dr. Adler was super kind and very gentle and her "tableside" manner was reassuring. She is top notch! She is extremely talented and very knowledgeable about Invisalign and realistic with your treatment. Michele, the Treatment Coordinator was sooo sweet and kind. She had offered very generous financing packages which helped me in making my decision to go with Invisalign. I am excited that I am a new patient here and will be starting my Invisalign journey with River Run Dental next month (May 2021). Overall, my first time experience was stellar and I would highly recommend. read more

I used to HATE the dentist (like most people), until I started coming here. I've had a lot of bad experiences with dentists from when I was young, up until I was an adult. Originally, I came here due to some concerns of a root canal I had gotten at another dentist. The prior dentist, had messed up my root canal. BAD. River run was able to refer me to a specialist, after they examined the state of my teeth. After that visit, I have been coming here regularly twice a year. It's like a spa, but you're there for your teeth. You honestly don't get a lot of face time with the actual dentists, unless you're getting a procedure done (ie. fillings). All the dental hygienists (or assistants?) are very friendly and good with cleaning and doing a quick examination before the dentist comes in to do a final look. I will admit though, some of the hygienists are better than others (in terms of comfort, not quality of work). I have gotten a few fillings done here, and they do great work. Also, with insurance, it's not that expensive (even though you feel like you're at a super fancy dentist office). Overall, this place has made me not hate going to the dentist. read more
