So I would like to say that I initially came upon Dr. Apfel's practice on Groupon so I decided to go in for a consultation. The consult went well so I then decided to start the procedure for crowns/veneer work on 2 top front teeth... Dr. Apfel was very knowledgeable & professional throughout this whole process, he answered all of my questions & concerns, very thorough!! He even added zoom Whitening at no xtra cost to me. His office was easy access & they worked around my schedule for the most part! If you're gonna have this type of work done I would recommend Dr. Apfel. I went to him on a medical concern on one of my tooth, my smile wasn't bad at all I had puss coming out of one tooth, a problem later to reoccurre due to him not adequately fixing it He didn't care about anything but money Convinced me to have veneers for my front set of teeth at a cost i couldn't afford, but he tempt me with helping me get a loan where i had to make monthoy payments When he finished the work i was not happy with the result, the flow of my smile was much different than my original smile, he pleadged to change it Ever since he kept ignoring me and waste my time woth appointments that was nothing but for taking measurements over and over again which is very frustrating Mind you a job he promised to finish in one month too almost a year I moved to a different state before he finished what he has promised Now after almost two years Countless emails and recordings that im willing to share, he still pushes me over with false promises that he will call back and schedule an appointment And that when he actually answers, 99% of the time he doesn't, so imagine the stress and the anger i have to live with One of the veneers has fallen, the rest are shaking I wake up with so much pain due to an imperfect bite No other dentist will want to continue what he has started, to redo everything is a costly process I spent over 8000$ with late payment fees, commute and time off work, due to his limitless appointments for no reason but to repeat what he has done the appointment before And the tooth that took me to him for the very first place still have the same problem He is a crook and a liar read more

do NOT use him. after being sick he was the dentist near my building so i used him. i made myself have a positive view of his work. i needed implants so i went to a nearby reputable dentist to see what he had to say. i came back to apfel and had decided implants were too expensive. so apfel gave me upper dentures that he affixed somehow. $40,000. much less expensive than implant work. they constantly fell out. i needed to have him re glue regularly. he said they were porcelain but someone elses review of him said he was told the same thing but they werent. this went on for a year or more until he left the area. i was upset to see him leave. so, my friend introduced me to her dentist. i finally had implants. process took a year and during that year i had no teeth to eat with. lovely. my new dentist could not believe what he saw. he told me i got shammed. if i had the energy id sue him but i dont. i would never recommend him to anyone ever. some friends told me they had an appointment with him and never went back because of price and practice. i was the only one who had a positive view of him. until i met this new fantastic dentist who did beautiful work. so, i got ripped off of $40,000. what a POS. read more

Full disclosure: The dentist gave me a full refund at my request. Overall a horrifying experience over the course of several visits, but the review below has the most salient aspects. I found out about Dr. Apfel on Groupon, where he was advertising a special price for veneers. The price was 65%+ cheaper than what other dentists charge! Red flag #1, why would anyone who is good at veneers give you such a ridiculously low price? Answer: They wouldn't, so you are either getting an amateur or someone who isn't good at it. He says that you are getting porcelain veneers but the material is actually zirconia, which is a different type of material and is generally not used for veneers. One of the problems with zirconia is that X-rays cannot see through them so if you have a cavity underneath the veneer the Xray will not show it. Red flag #2. I believe he either lied about this or engaged in less than honest behavior to conceal the truth. When it came time to place the permanent veneers on my teeth he cemented them on my teeth knowing full well that there were gaps between the veneer and the gum line. In fact, one of them was so egregious that he said he would need to replace it. The question that I, along with the other dentists with whom I consulted after this ordeal, had, is why would he would cement the permanents in knowing full well that they were not sized correctly? In addition, the veneers were quite bulky, possibly because they were made of zirconia or possibly because of they were improperly made. After consulting with 3 other dentists, they all unequivocally stated that my veneers were poorly done, to put it lightly. Because the ADA does not regulate the field of cosmetic dentistry you have unscrupulous dentists who get away with doing sub-par work on unsuspecting patients. I am now in the process of getting the veneers redone by a qualified dentist with expertise in veneers. read more

My veneer he made for me has fallen off twice in six months when they are supposed to last for 10 years. Once I had it glued on by him and once by someone else, and it still falls off - aka the design of it is flawed. He also got eye surgery a while ago and apparently doesn't see correctly anymore, yet still practices. It's a disgrace to his clients. Would not recommend to anyone. read more

I required extensive dental care and found Dr. Apfel to provide excellent dental care. Dr, Apfel took the time to go over in detail my dental issues, provided me with a options and explained how these options would effect my short and long-term dental care. He and is staff were consistent, timely, and did a great job with all my needs. I did need to see him a few times for my procedures; however, this was only because he was that thorough and careful with the issues he was addressing. Specifically, I had issues that ranged from gum disease to molar issues, and the need for veneers. Everything came out fantastic! I am more than pleased. I highly recommend Dr. Apfel for all your dental care needs. And on top of outstanding professional care, both Dr,. Apfel and his wonderful staff are genuine in the care they provide. DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT GO TO THIS DENTIST!!!! I went to him needing a root canal which he split into 5 parts, lets just say the past two years have been a nightmare. Everytime I would visit this man he would do unessecary drilling and keep finding another problm that would of course cost me so much money. It came to a point I was scared to visit him caus eh e had a great knack for a finding a new cavity or new root canal to perform. I wound up having 3 root canals in a years time. I know, i feel like idiot now especially after doing some research on him. Btw the 5 parts was spread out on the FIRST root canal basically so he could find othe rlittle problems in between. In came to apoint I was evicted from my apartment just to afford paying this man for dental work that wasnt needed. Ill agree the first root canal was needed, but not the next 17 cavities or 2 root canals. And btw i am in severe dental pain right now , probally caused by his bad work. And u know what id rather die from tooth pain than ever go back to this man. The dentistry is OK, but I found the $16,000 fee on the excessive side. The work done consisted of two root canals with replacement crowns; replacement of another older crown, and the just the screw-in posts and teeth for three dental implants, which were actually placed (with bone grafting) by a specialist in Manhattan (excellent work, BTW). If you value your time, this is not the professional for you. Out of approximately 10 appointments, the doctor was on time only twice. All ten appointments were his first appointment of the day at 11 AM! How hard is it to get to work by 10:55? I can echo the sentiments of Laura G. 10 visits for what was done seems like a make-work situation. Other dentists would have combined several procedures into one visit. Also, the continual addition of work, which probably justified, was annoying. I feel everything that was eventually done should have been specified by the second visit, not a drip, drip, drip of additions. Dr. Apfel is a lovely human being as well as a great dentist. I had an anxiety attack during my appointment (nothing he did; I am prone to them). He and his hygenist were kind and patient with me, even though it made him late for his next appointment. On my way out he gave me money so I didn't have to take the subway home.
