Good to know, noted for future reference. Last night, I started having a toothache but being a stubborn kind of guy, I thought I would gut it out and everything would be just fine. I certainly didn't want to spend my last holiday vacation day going to the dentist. Just in case it got worse, I sent a FB message via Messenger around 1AM looking to get a response by the time I woke up in the morning. Surprisingly, someone responded within a few minutes. Well done, social media and a late night almost instant response. Scored points with me for sure. But I didn't sleep very well because of the toothache so at 5am, I set up an appt with my regular dentist online through his website. I called him an hour before just to make sure we were good but it turns out he was out of town and his staff didn't update his availability. Great! Went to the notebook on my phone and looked up the guys who got all the kudos and accolades. I looked up their reviews (all positive), looked up where they went to school and when they graduated (local guys), and etc. Someone on FB Messenger told me that the office was open at 9am and if I wanted to set up an appointment, they would be happy to take care of me. I called them after finding out my regular dentist wasn't in town and they gave me an appointment for three hours later, on a Sunday! I went in and they followed good social distancing practices, the place was clean, and the doc, Junoh Kim, walked me through everything that was going to happen, during, and after. He answered all my questions with pleasure and patience, no attitude, no judgement, no preaching, which is always appreciated. There wasn't anyone after me but he took his time, didn't rush through the process, and it was generally a good experience, considering it was a visit to the dentist on a Sunday during Thanksgiving weekend. I definitely recommend KW Dental and not that I look forward to the next visit, but I know that I will feel comfortable going to these guys in the future. 2020 is a weird year and businesses are all being affected so wanted to make sure to call these guys out for their good patient services.

I was given very unclear directions of the course of action needed. The dentist who works there - the woman, not Kaplan - is a wonderful person and clearly takes what she is doing, and patient-care seriously. But the front desk woman is an absolute monster. When I came back with an infection that returned she literally talked to me like I was some vermin that ruined her day. When I told her this infection is coming back she said 'well why don't you go to the ER. Nothing we'll do for you here.' It was shocking to see a medical office act like this. Then, since my insurance didn't cover the operation I needed, she told me to go get some credit cards and pass them the number then she'll talk to me. It was clearly a money grab. I've never seen anything like it. It was callous, cold and very concerning. Some other points. They NEVER answer their phone. I've was trying to get my X-rays back and she never answered my emails or phone calls. Luckily I found several places that didn't act like this and could discuss money in a way that isn't a shake down. I can't be clearer. Stay far away from this place. It's not worth it. And if you have something serious you may likely end up in a grave state.

Dr. Flatow's dental hygienist, who's name escapes me, was the perfect combination of gentle with her work but firm with reprimanding me for waiting so long to come in. After a thorough teeth cleaning, a tiny cavity in one of my molars (it doesn't count if it's on a molar, right?) and some receding gum that exposed one of my roots were found. A quick follow up appointment fixed both issues. I've heard horror stories about dentists insisting on procedures that are not needed. As someone that had gone to the same dentist my entire life before moving to NYC, I was terrified of finding a dentist I could trust. Dr. Flatow's practice is as honest as they come and I am glad that Yelp helped me find it. Dr. Flatow's demeanor is refreshing in a city full of cold and awkward doctors forced to treat their patients as widgets instead of people. Very confused. I have 2 insurances- blue cross. (Primary, small dental benefit) and emblem…read more(secondary, but with the bulk of the dental benefits) . I made my appointment and gave both insurance info at time of booking, explaining that they'd have to bill my primary first and whatever denial they get (which is what will happen ) then they will bill the secondary and get paid. It doesn't matter if they are out of network with the primary, even if they were in network it will still get denied. I explained that my husband - who has the same insurances as me, was seen by them recently and he recommended them. Now they left me a message 3 days ago saying they are out of network with my insurances. I called my insurances because I was confused since they just got paid for seeing my husband. I was assured they are in network still and the billing policy is the same for the insurances - first bill Blue Cross then after denial bill Emblem. So I was planning to keep my appointment for next week. However I got a call today saying "we are not in network with your insurances". I clarified what the insurance said, the girl then changes her tune "we don't deal with dual insurances when one is not in network - it's our policy " I said well when did that change? She said "that's always been our policy" . I told her it wasn't true because they just recently saw my husband and had no problem getting paid, are they just not wanting to do the extra required work to bill the primary? She then went on to further explain "well this is now our policy " Sooooo you went from you're not in network with my insurances , to we don't deal with dual insurances, to we don't bill out of network then bill a second insurance, and that's always been our policy, to it's our new policy. Meanwhile, you actually ARE in network with Emblem and you're not following their billing practices, which I'm sure is unethical billing, and deceptive practices. Patients need to be aware that you're incompetent at billing or simply lazy and won't take time to bill correctly because it's extra work for you.

I showed her the email, she looked and saw my appointment request however; It was never actually booked by the manager. Leslie was so nice and very professional. She said she would talk to the doctor to see what can be done because she knew I was in pain. Dr. Dechavez of course accommodated me. I explained all my recent serious health issues that prevented me from seeking care sooner. He was so understanding and caring. Though he could not start the work yet as he had patients waiting. He made sure I was given an appointment to be seen during the week. Dr. Dechavez truly cares for his patients. He really is a superb doctor and most of all a decent human being with core values.
