Since I wrote my original review, I've spoken with the administrative person and we hashed things out. They offered a sincere apology for everything that happened, which I appreciated. And, save for this hiccup, the administrative person has been nothing but friendly and welcoming. In addition, the service I've received there has been great (with the exception of one hygienist who I'm not sure even works there anymore, but I didn't catch their name anyway), and I have no complaints about the facilities. I am still hesitant to give a full 5 stars just because of the payment policy (which again is that they expect you to pay upfront for all services, and then will refund you once they receive the reimbursement check from your insurance company). I do understand the reasoning behind this and sympathize, given the sad state of health and dental insurance in this country. However, I'm personally not comfortable with the idea of being out several hundred dollars for a couple weeks before the claim is fully processed (even if you know you'll receive a refund, it can still be a financial burden to wait two weeks or so before you receive it). If you are not concerned about that, however, I would recommend Dr. Antonakos for sure. read more

I went to a dentist a month ago for a toothache, I was told I needed a root canal and crown and it was going to be almost 4K! I wanted a second opinion so I bought a Groupon, for New York cosmetic dental, (my co-worker referred me), I called and was told they had an opening for tomorrow at 3. When asked how much is a crown the girl Merna said the doctor is flexible and she couldn't tell me over the phone. I then asked if they accept delta dental (I'm getting ins from my job soon) and she said yes, I asked if they are "IN NETWORK" she said yes "we're in network." She then asked me to hold, which seemed like 5 mins so I hung up. I called delta to confirm if they are in network and they rep said they are in fact NOT in network!!! Why would she tell me YES so confidently if they are not in network. That's enough for me to look elsewhere. What else are they not being honest with? read more

Horrendous. I never would have thought Dr. Antonakas would be capable of treating a patient like shit but guess I shouldn't be surprised. I went to him for 2 fillings. The office called and informed my it'd be 80% covered by insurance. So I went and got them filled. After it was done and I was getting ready to leave I was told I'd have to pay upfront and wait for insurance to reimburse me. Of course after making full payment I find out insurance covers like 17% but they got their money so who cares right? And that's not even the biggest issue... I went through 2 months of tear jerking pain. Sensitivity to cold and everytime I chewed on the tooth it felt like it was being uprooted. So I called and got an appointment to see him. Sat down in the chair, explained the pain I was in, and he responds with "you need a root canal". Really? No inspecting of the tooth and no xray (which I questioned and he obliged) and this is his diagnosis. It wasn't until I went to another dentist for a cleaning and a 2nd opinion that I discovered the pain was due to a gap in the filling. No root canal was needed. Go somewhere else for your dental needs. If you have extra money to flush down the drain and don't care about how you are treated then this is your place. I gave Dr. A plenty of chances to call me back and speak about this privately. 2 weeks have gone by, which is sufficient enough time for me to take it publicly without feeling bad. read more

Summary: Great physician and staff. Waiting area is welcoming and looks great. The exam rooms look dated though. Full review: I didn't pay out of pocket for the services, so I cannot comment on how much it costs here compared to other dentists. However, he is a kind dentist and explains everything well. The equipment in the exam rooms look dated. The waiting area looks great. It is a small practice with very caring staff. I would definitely go back again. read more

Just had my teeth cleaned here. Ina was amazing. I have had a ton of cleanings at different places and she was the best.

Came here on a Groupon deal for general x-rays, exam, and cleaning. The receptionist was very friendly and helpful. She registered me efficiently and the dental hygienist took me back basically right on time for my appointment. I wish I could remember my dental hygienist's name, I specifically told myself to remember it for review reasons, and now I've forgotten. I want to say it was Beverly maybe? Anyway, she was professional, soft-spoken, very nice, and very thorough. Dr. Antonakos (who introduced himself as Alex, which I liked, made you feel kind of like you were already an established patient) seemed valid. He didn't try to sell me on cosmetic stuff (I hate when they do that when you don't ask for it, especially when it's your first visit) and stuck to what I came there for. Seemed laid back yet confident in his knowledge. I like it. I love when you go somewhere using one of these coupon deals and they don't treat you like a lesser client. Too many places do that - it's like why offer a coupon if you're going to resent your clients for using them? But this practice seems to be very professional and understanding of their clients' financial situations. They even offer a discount for uninsured clients such as myself. This combined with a pleasant dental experience makes me very likely to return for my 6-month check up :) read more

My daughter just moved to New York, and suddenly she had severe tooth pain. The receptionist at Dr. Antonakos' office went above and beyond to get her in as quickly as possible. My daughter ended up having to be referred to an oral surgeon, which they referred her to and also got her taken care of the same day. I can't say enough how much we appreciate the care my daughter got! Professional, courteous, and caring...they really came through for us! read more

Best dental experience of my life!!!! I got a deal on Amazon Local for clean/exam/whitening because I don't have dental insurance, so I was going for cheap. The receptionist was totally warm and welcoming, and then they handed me over to Beverly, the hygienist, who was totally calming and soft spoken. I feel like with new dental technology, a lot of places have abandoned the old school metal picks and scrapers and just go over your teeth with one of those sonic instruments for 10 minutes and call it good. Not here, Beverly used the sonic thing and then pulled out all kinds of picks and scrapers and just WENT TO TOWN on my teeth for at least half an hour. When she finished I said I was impressed with how thorough she was, and her response was "I'd love to clean them again. Just to get all the stuff that's really deep in there". Dr. Alex came in, was totally cool, didn't find anything horrible or try to scare me into having my wisdom teeth pulled or tell me I needed invisalign or any of the usual tactics, he just recommended cleanings more often.. And since they were so incredibly thorough I AM going to go in and let Beverly get every last bit of plaque humanly possible next week. I feel like they are making up for years of mediocre dental cleanings and work. I will be a patient there for life - no more groupons or amazon deals for me, they are worth the full price or I will find a dental plan that they take if it seems necessary. I was 30 minutes late to my appointment and the receptionist and hygienist could not have been more helpful and kind. They reworked the schedule to ensure I got a proper cleaning and X-rays and, beyond that, they were so warm and friendly. The dentist, too, is quite friendly and easy-going, and very clearly explained my teeth. read more

HEAR YE! HEAR YE! Dr. A. is the BEST dentist I have ever had in more than 60 years of "dentist-ing." He put a great 5-crown bridge in the bottom of my complicated mouth and gave me 5 or 6 "get it absolutely right" visits, without charging me a dime for any of them. Further, while 5 dentists I saw before him insisted there was an instant need to replace an old silver filling I have, Dr. A., over 3 years, has said, "I'll have to replace that eventually, but not yet." ! ! ! You see, you have here a dentist who actually cares more about your teeth and budget than he does about the fatness of his wallet! How rare is that?!? Also, you can call his cell phone anytime and press "urgent," if you are worried. I did this twice, and he got back to me quickly each time. All hail Antonakos! read more

I feel like I need to warn others. I don't understand why he is so highly reviewed. I found dealing with him and his staff nightmarish. He was recommended by a friend, and so me and four members of my staff went to him because his office was in our new neighborhood. We have all stopped seeing him. He told me I needed thousands of dollars worth of dental work. It was so extreme that I created an Excel sheet to track it, because my insurance had a 1K annual cap and I need to prioritize the work. No matter how much work I got done, there was always more. And yet he missed a real problem (I had to point out a tooth that was aching, and by the time he looked i needed a root canal. In the meantime he had given me literally eight other shallow fillings. The root canal was a complete nightmare. He got halfway through and didn't have the skills to complete it and had to send me up to a specialist, with my whole tooth and root exposed. I finally switched dentists after that, and my new dentist's first question was why I had so many shallow fillings, which he said are unnecessary and weaken your teeth. So I'm worse off now than when I started going to him. He's also incredibly condescending and rude (rolling his eyes at me when I tried to ask questions about all the work. Run, run, run away from this guy unless you have thousands of dollars and weeks of your life to waste on dental work you don't need. read more
