We have been bringing our dogs to Jefferson Veterinary Hospital for quite some time and have had the opportunity to see all of the doctors. Each one has provided excellent care, and we have never been disappointed. However, we want to especially recognize Dr. Smith for her outstanding level of understanding, patience, and expertise. One of our pups struggles with chronic ear infections due to allergies, and Dr. Smith's knowledge and attentive care have made a world of difference. She takes the time to thoroughly explain treatment options, answer all of our questions, and ensure that we feel confident in the care plan. Her compassion and dedication to finding solutions tailored to our dog's needs have truly stood out. I live in Annapolis and our rescue boxer Coco has a tumor behind her left eye. We wanted to get CT scan of the area; but was insulted with our local animal hospital that wanted over $6,300 for a CT!!! I was so lucky to find Jefferson to set up the scan within ONE day at a fraction of the cost. The staff and Dr. Ahalt are OUTSTANDING. They really care about the people we call pets. I am so thankful I made the drive and met them. Coco sadly has a very aggressive tumor and the Doctor was very honest about the situation and truly felt bad to deliver the news. Comfort over pain wins every time. Sadly, not our first horrible decision to have to make. I would recommend this practice to everyone I know. If you are looking for an informed, compassionate, responsive vet for your fur baby, look no further. Dr Ahalt and his staff are all of that and more. After learning our sweet dog had cancer and battling a very long wait to get in at another veterinary oncologist, we found Jefferson Vet. They had us in the very next day and performed surgery within a week to remove what he could of the tumor. Following surgery, he was so helpful and responsive to our questions and concerns. I Love the Jefferson Veterinary Hospital! Their staff is kind and courteous and the Doctors are awesome. They take time to establish relationships and they are very caring with the animals. They have done a great job with follow up after my pets have had surgery or have been sick making personal phone calls to check on them. Often they will let me take pictures and send them so as to avoid an unnecessary trip to the office. I have 6 dachshunds so I spend a great deal of time there. I would recommend highly! read more

I was looking for a new vet because ours had retired. I called Jefferson Veterinary Hospital because the website said yo could make an appt with new Brunswick office, since this extremely close to the vet that was recommended (who I had visited and was wonderful) I thought this will be much more convenient. When I called, Alicia answered the phone and was very cold and not welcoming of a new patient. After I gave her all of my information for my pet (1of 3) and 75 deposit for a visit ( a fee I have not come across with an other vet). I confirmed that this was for the Brunswick office and in the same disdainful tone said that that was just grooming and no vet hours had been established. On Friday a message was sent to confirm my appt. which I did. The Sunday before I get a text saying not to forget to bring a stool sample (which was not requested when the appointment was made). Since I had three cats I then had get a temporary litter pan and sequester my cat so that I could isolate his stool. Fortunately, this did not take much time if you know cats. All prepped I was ready for vet. Unfortunately do to many circumstances I missed the appointment and quickly called to reschedule. The person I spoke with was pleasant and quickly rescheduled and I of course apologized profusely. Then about 5 minutes later I get a call from Alicia saying that another deposit was needed for the new appointment. I asked if the deposit I put down could be put toward the new appointment as I apologized and hadn't intended on missing the appointment. She then using same disdainful tone she used before said it was policy for new patients to charge for the deposit and and that they were very busy and just forgetting the the appointment wasn't a good enough excuse and if she excused the deposit she would have to that for all of the patients. Now I do understand the need for this policy so people don't waist the doctors and staffs time and if Alicia were not as unpleasant I would have rescheduled and put down another deposit. However I canceled the appointment and made an appointment at the vet that I have used before and did not charge this deposit. So now use Apple Tree Clinic in Ranson, WV where the staff and doctors are very pleasant and take great care of my 3 animals. read more

Dr.Edmundson is amazing! She could tell my dog was terrified (routine vaccines/wellness exam) and didn't want to get on the big scary metal table, so she offered to do the exam/vaccines on the little bench where he felt safe. She could tell he was "affection motivated" so her and her staff huddled around him giving him belly rubs and calling him a good boy while administering the vaccines. He will DEFINITELY remember this, as that's the most affection he's ever gotten from the vet! That definitely helps not only my pup, but me too as I always feel guilty dragging him in there. I've never seen him wagging his tail and smiling at the end of a vet visit, so if your dog has anxiety about the vet, I would definitely recommend seeing Dr.Edmundson! read more

The staff has always been great as our two rescue cats have both had their fair share of health problems since adopting them. The staff listens to my needs and helps make the process less stressful. They have a brand new building that looks well maintained. Dr. Kalf has been a great source of knowledge and has even personally returned my calls to discuss our cats anxiety concerns. I would definitely recommend anyone to take there lovely furballs to this location. read more

They killed my cat, said it probably was a blood clot, no it wasn't the cat was completely fine before coming to you, they did anesthesia to draw blood and he came home and died the following day. They don't care about the animals that come in there. Will never take another pet to them again. Isn't the first time I've heard my story either from friends in the Jefferson area either. Do not take your beloved pets to them! They WILL kill them. read more

We brought our 8 month old rottie here and asked the vet if it was normal for her to still bleed and to be in heat for 5 weeks. She said it was normal. Asked them the same question after 6 weeks, 7 weeks, 8 weeks and every time we were told the same thing. Thank god we went somewhere else for a second opinion. Turns out the dog was not even in heat and had a severe case of Pyometra and had to have emergency surgery. Called the vet to let them know that the dog almost died and cost us nearly $2,500 because because of their screw up but never had the decency to call us back. The worst of the worst. read more

We switched to Jefferson Veterinary Hospital after moving to the area 2 years ago. I sadly had to put my cat to sleep shortly after. The staff was incredibly kind, empathetic and reassuring. Dr. Ahalt spent time on the phone with my husband and I to make sure we were comfortable with our decision and had been given all the information. When my husband went to pick up our pet's ashes, they were so caring, even walking around the counter to hand her to him. We unfortunately did not have this experience when we had to make the same decision for our other cat using Greenbrier. We now have another cat and dog and completely trust Jefferson Veterinary Hospital with their care. read more

The front desk staff and vet tech were fine but the doctor could have cared less about my 2 dogs and rushed through their checkups and vaccinations. They drew blood for the heart worm tests without telling me they were $80.00 each. They took the dogs to another room without telling me why for the blood draws. I started hearing a dog whimpering over and over and thought it was one of mine. They said no it was a dog who had had surgery earlier. My thought was why hadn't they given it sufficient pain medicine? And why did other clients have to hear it. I walked out of there spending a shocking nearly $500.00 with no sense of caring about my dogs or me or the whimpering dog. Never again. read more

We took a cat that had been losing weight and seemed in pain in the stomach area to this veterinarian office. This cat is a stray (kind of) that we have been taking care of for about a year. The cat has come a long way, but was terrified by the trip to the vet. I had to hold the cat and he was obviously scared. I understood the cat being scared, but did not understand the vet being scared. We had been very clear to the receptionist about the cat when we called. I expected experts to take over when we arrived. To be honest, I thought they might have to sedate the cat to work on it. However, the female attendant did not really seem to want to deal with the cat at all. She appeared to be scared of the cat, and when I suggested sedating it, she said it could kill it. The thing is, we could have administered medicine at home if we knew they could not address the cat as it was. Regardless, it gets better. As I said, the cat has been eating and drinking despite being sick. There was nothing to suggest the cat could have rabies, but the vet's mind went there anyways and basically terrified me and my girlfriend. She starting talking about the only way to know being to cut off its head to check the brain. Obviously I did not just make that up. I was now both scared and sick to my stomach. When it was clear she did not want to deal with the cat, we said we would take the cat home, and we would give it a full spectrum worm medicine before we decided what to do next. We purchased that and some medicine to sedate the cat should we try to bring the cat again Realize that we were in a kind of shock at this point. We were still charged for a complete wellness check despite the fact that the check was not completed. No blood was drawn, and nothing was actually checked. She never touched the cat. In addition, my girlfriend said the woman looked at her watch several times while I was focusing on the cat. We both felt that because this was a Saturday, and the cat would take more time than a basic wellness check, this lady did not want to invest the time necessary for sedation and blood work. I could be wrong about that, but that is how it felt regardless. It was not until the next day that I really became less scared and more angry about everything. I had spent the entire previous day reading about rabies and signs of rabies in cats. The cat does not have rabies. We had given the cat a basic worm medicine a few days before taking the cat to this vet. Maybe it helped, because the cat is more active and no longer seems to be in pain. We still are going to give the cat the other worm medicine, and talk to other vets about how best to treat the cat. Even if I accepted that the cat could have been a danger to the staff, this women had absolutely no bedside manner. She seemed panicked at times when the cat acted distressed. I just got through petting the cat on the porch. He rubbed up against me and seems very happy right now. Guess we did not have to cut his head off after all. Seriously? read more
