Dr. Adrianne Shell fired me as a customer simply because I didn't feel comfortable paying for a service that wasn't provided... She wanted to charge me for a full annual exam.. she barely even looked at my dog!! She wanted to charge me for assessing her heart and lungs, when she didnt even have her stethoscope present?! How in good conscience was she seriously going to charge me for a service she didnt perform??! Dr. Shell doesn't read previous medical notes of your loved fur babies nor does she care to listen to your concerns. She runs around constantly rushed. For communication, shes loves to relay messages through the vet techs because well, shes way too busy to talk to customers directly.. She misdiagnosed my dogs ear infection as ear wax. But what else do you expect from such an inept pet examiner? As i told her my concern of her constant itching and flapping her left ear, Dr. Shell took a long qtip, inserted in my dogs ear and sniffed it!! Nice diagnostics, huh?? She said, oh, nothing to worry about just some ear wax.. Took her to a professional vet and was sent home with meds to tx her damn ear infection that was misdiagnosed. If you want your concerns about your pets to be dismissed and ignored, go see Dr. Shell! Don't forget to get a copy of your pets medical notes from her... she lies. read more

I had a great experience taking my ginger kitty Emma Stone to Compassion Veterinary Center. I had not taken my kitty to the vet since I got her over 2 years ago because of the pandemic. So, I knew she was overdue and I was worried about her not having been seen in over 2 years by a vet. Like every pet parent who treats their pets like children, I was anxious and had TONS of questions. They were super gentle with her despite her growling at them and they were SUPER patient with my plethora of questions. They gave her the shots she needed, inspected her little body all over, clipped her nails and gave her treats. The cost was obviously a lot as all vet care is, but it was still reasonable and I wasn't overcharged for things. My kitty was not feeling well the next day and I was super worried when she wasn't interested in food (food is life for her and she squeals in delight when she gets food). The vet was very kind to call me back and alleviate my concerns that she was just feeling crummy from her shots. She is feeling MUCH better today and is eating normally, but the doctor really reduced my anxiety with her kindness. Every single person I encountered at this center was friendly and kind. Being new to the Frederick area, I'm super glad to have established a good vet for my precious kitties. read more

They definitely live up to their name. I've never had a vet so available for questions. I started seeing Dr. Hain because I got a new rescue pup and I was concerned about walking dandruff. She did not do a skin scrape (that I requested out of anxiety) because she didn't think it was necessary from visual inspection, which I deeply appreciate because who wants to pay for unnecessary interventions? I emailed a question about parasite control and she called me leaving a thorough explanation. When he revealed behavior issues a month later and I requested treatment, she called me to discuss the problem and we came to a solution and treatment (WITHOUT another office exam/call fee.) Most offices will nickel and dime (or even gouge) you to death for every little thing. This office is a breath of fresh air. read more

The vets here really are compassionate along with the vet techs and the rest of the staff. They are friendly to us, caring to our strange menagerie of pets. They don't even bat an eye lid when our dogs decide that no matter how much pooping they did before going in, they need to go right in reception. In fact it's become a common thing now, part of the normal. Oh and despite my being willing to clean up the mess whilst asking my dogs what got into their simple minds. The vet techs insist on cleaning up. Heck they even wipe the dogs up to make sure they are clean. Other vets will toss you a roll of paper towels and disinfectant. So from the shitty start, you know that these people care. The vets listen to you, explain the costs and benefits/risks with each treatment option. They don't judge, they honestly care. And the range of services they offer despite their relatively small surgery is impressive. We were given a treatment option that we were sure we'd have to go elsewhere to receive. They offered it there and at a reasonable cost too. Definitely a vet to visit for when your fur babies need medical help. read more

I just wanted to post a review of my vet because I'm so very thankful for them . My dog Buddy is a 120 lb shepherd/Akita mix. Buddy is a very important part of our family for the last 13 years. He has some issues with his back legs so is well known at Compassion Vet. Everyone knows his name and greets him when we arrive , taking to him and petting him , he loves it . Recently I took Buddy in because he had a red spot, looked like blood, in his eye. I could see the distress in Dr Shells face as she examined Buddy. She was very concerned and wasn't sure exactly what it was , so she referred us to an ophthalmologist for dogs ! We went to see the ophthalmologist and it turned out to be nothing serious. I let them know At Compassion vet right away because I knew they were so worried about Buddy . I was so relieved, because that's exactly what my doctor would do if she wasn't sure about something. She would send me to a specialist. I just can't say enough about Dr Shell and everyone at Compassion Vet. They are wonderful people and care just as much about your pets as you do read more

I have used CVC for emergencies and routine care for my pets and am very happy with the staff, the docs and the care--even the prices are fair though I would pay more. I've sought Dr. L's services for years when she used to be at another practice and am very happy she's in Frederick. Why should you care what I think? I worked full time in animal hospitals from 1977-81, PT until 1985, then FT again til 1993, as a cruelty investigator and shelter manager for 10 more years, married the vet/owner of an animal hospital (sadly it's closed, now). Pretty much, the hardest to satisfy client a vet could ever have. No really. This is a great clinic. My pets are safe there. read more

We have followed Dr. Brooke here from Catonsville and make the long drive from Silver Spring because she is amazing! One of our cats has genetic dental issues and has been seeing Dr. Brooke every year since we moved to the area in 2015. Our little guy has had regular cleanings and a few extractions up until last month, when Dr. Brooke let us know that the time had come to remove the rest of his teeth. It's something we knew would eventually happen and we felt well-prepared and comfortable with the procedure, thanks to Dr. Brooke. She and the staff took wonderful care of him and he is now living a toothless but pain-free and healthy life. If you need a dental specialist for your pet, she is the best of the best. read more

They are the best veterinary practice in the area. I took my other dog to another vet in the area and felt like the prices were to high and they were just trying to get me to pay for extras. Dr. Shell is SO awesome. I called them before the practice opened and they let me make an appt and came to my house for the visit and shot updates without charging extra for house calls. Now, thats what i mean customer service. When i met dr. Shell it was an connection and felt very comfortable with her and her staff. Dr. Shell is one of the best vets I've ever known. The entire staff is incredible with our dog, Luna, offering peanut butter and other treats to calm her down. We have no worries at all when we walk into this vet because we know our dog will be well taken care of. I've been using two different vets in the Frederick area for the past 10 years and have become dissatisfied because of 1. My dogs were getting older and the cost was starting to get extremely high. 2. The technicians were handling the care most of the time. 3. I was being held hostage to have more and more test done in order to get prescription medication that one of my dogs needed. In doing a search online for Pet Insurance I found Pet Assure that referenced Compassion Veterinary. The is totally the very best Vet ever; not only was Dr. Shell gentle and compassionate with my 12-year-old miniature poodle but was responsive to all my concerns and thoroughly answered all of my questions plus some. For the past 15 years I have been using another vet in Urbana but lately it seemed the office staff was managing my dogs care rather than the vet. We moved to the area and 1 month later we found a lump on our dog. After a yelp and google search i made an appointment with Dr. Shell. Our dog was diagnosed with cancer and we put him down 4 months later. Dr. Shell was amazing throughout the whole process. She took the time to educate us and answer all our questions. She gave us all the information for each choice we had to make with our dog and never made us feel pressure to pick a certain one. We always felt like whatever we choose to do with managing our dogs cancer she would be on board with. When it was time to say goodbye she explained to our young kids what would happen in a way they would understand. We could not have found a better vet to help us through that process. I'm giving 4 stars because the office was a bit slow on follow ups. I was always promised a time frame for a return phone call and it was always at least 24 hours after that when someone would call back. Also, one of the employees gave us a price over the phone for a biopsy, but the final price was almost $200 more then that price i was given. When i asked the employee about it she said she only told me the price for the procedure part, not the lab part, and indicated it was my fault for not knowing the full price because i didn't ask the right questions on the phone. read more

As a first time pet owner, I was nervous about starting my 6 month old cat on vet visits. He has an aggressive personality and has a tendency to be a little mean upon being picked up/touched. After his neuter with Dr. Shell, I was so pleased to hear from the staff that he remained sweet and calm. He must have really felt relaxed. I have been searching for a vet who could cover our large variety of animal friends in our household. My sister in law recommended Compassion Veterinary Center so I gave it a try. First, their prices can't be beat. It's highly professional care without the inflated prices. Second, they make house calls which was imperative, as I have a cat who refuses to go to the vet. All five of our pets now see Dr. Shell and she is amazing. They are even willing to work with you when making appointments that might stretch outside their normal work hours. Julie the office manager, Kristine the hospital manager, and the two "interns" (sorry, forgot their names) are all wonderful and deserve many praise and thanks! We have three cats and unfortunately they've had quite a few health issues lately so we've been in frequent contact (in person and over the phone) with Compassion Veterinary Center which can really add up when it comes to cost. Dr. Shell has given us price breaks whenever possible and we are so appreciative! The practice is small which allows for personalized care. We are never rushed in or out - they even encourage our cats to get out of their crates and just walk around and acclimate to the environment for a while before they are examined which makes the whole vet experience far more comfortable for them. We live in Germantown, MD right down the street from a well known veterinary center. Our experience there, although not necessarily negative, was far from stellar. Our cats were much more anxious when visiting that practice and they certainly charged us for everything possible. A few months ago we decided to drive up to Frederick to Compassion Veterinary Center and never looked back! We are happier, our animals are happier, and our pockets are happier.
