I asked about the different types of fish they had, and the lady at the counter helped me decide. She was super friendly, and the food came out very quick and very fresh. This chunk of fish was super tasty. I enjoy malt vinegar rather than tartar sauce, and the crispy fried batter soaked it right up. The chips were typical fries and also tasty with ketchup or vinegar. They offered gravy, but I declined. I'll return to this place the next time I'm in Peterborough.

My parents live in a seniors residence nearby and were looking for a dependable Restaraunt in the…read morearea to deliver quality meals on a regular basis. I literally drove my father in to the restaraunt on George street and walked him through how easy it would be for them to patronise a local establishment. The stage was set for a regular customer who would also be able to promote this service among the other residents of their substantial facility. Instead of receiving delivery as scheduled for 5:15 after a follow up call at 6:00 PM the order of soggy chips and barely edible food was dropped off shortly before 7:00. Instead of an apology the restaraunt wanted to tell their tale of woe. Opportunity knocked and will now seek service quality and decency elsewhere. If you promote a service you need to deliver in the deliverables. Shame on Jacks incompetent staff and systems.

It has been totally renovated over Christmas 2009 and now looks and feels like you're sitting in your own living/dining room. We all had delicious, fresh, perfectly-cooked halibut with chips. The batter on the fish is a great complement...not too thick so as to hide the flavour and freshness of the fish. The chips were homemade, hot, and perfectly cooked. Our server was very friendly and cheerful and provided just the right amount of attention. We'll definitely be back and I've already recommended Long Island to some friends who live nearby.

Last night was terrible all around, and probably my last visit. Very slow kitchen, inattentive service and poor food quality (burnt patty, soggy toppings). Wasn't even busy inside the dinning area. My guess is the two identical pieces of fish came from a bag in the freezer. The meat on the Turkey sandwich my friend ordered ($7.99 - "roasted on premises") was kinda grey green, foul-tasting, and was completely inedible. The patty in the burger the couple at the next table were sharing also looked grey and from a freezer bag. Really sad to see the 8-10 older locals in there that day shelling out hard earned bucks for such crappy food. I don't like slamming any place, but this joint should stay hidden.
