The stage was set for a regular customer who would also be able to promote this service among the other residents of their substantial facility. Instead of receiving delivery as scheduled for 5:15 after a follow up call at 6:00 PM the order of soggy chips and barely edible food was dropped off shortly before 7:00. Instead of an apology the restaraunt wanted to tell their tale of woe. Opportunity knocked and will now seek service quality and decency elsewhere. If you promote a service you need to deliver in the deliverables. Shame on Jacks incompetent staff and systems.

It has been totally renovated over Christmas 2009 and now looks and feels like you're sitting in your own living/dining room. We all had delicious, fresh, perfectly-cooked halibut with chips. The batter on the fish is a great complement...not too thick so as to hide the flavour and freshness of the fish. The chips were homemade, hot, and perfectly cooked. Our server was very friendly and cheerful and provided just the right amount of attention. We'll definitely be back and I've already recommended Long Island to some friends who live nearby.

That being said, The Keg is reliable and consistent. It is good, the steaks are good, they are just not very good. The meat they use seems to be basically what you can find at any grocery store. I can find much better cuts of meat at good grocery stores or butchers and cook it much better at home. I am a bit surprised they don't use better quality meat for their steaks. But I guess it is very popular and the food is still pretty good, so why spend extra money on quality when what you are selling sells pretty good. I know this sounds like a rant on this place not being that great but that is only because I feel a steakhouse should have really good quality meat. I still enjoy eating here and at least I know what I am going to get, but I will never be "wowed" here. Some times you go to a restaurant and it just knocks you off your feet and it is a real experience. That will never happen at this restaurant, or any other Keg. I think it will always be good but quite frankly I can cook a much better steak myself, at home. So why should anybody pay the prices they charge to eat here? Well, I guess if you are away from home, and don't want to take any chances on a decent meal, this is a good choice, and it was this time as well. This chunk of fish was super tasty. I enjoy malt vinegar rather than tartar sauce, and the crispy fried batter soaked it right up. The chips were typical fries and also tasty with ketchup or vinegar. They offered gravy, but I declined. I'll return to this place the next time I'm in Peterborough.

The waitress said that if I didn't like calamari, they would substitute with some additional shrimp. When the dish arrived, I didn't get additional shrimp, what they did was add some extra mussels. In fact, the meal was almost all mussels. There was a lobster tail, but in the whole meal there was only one scallop and three shrimp, all of which were significantly overcooked and rubbery. The waitress was pleasant and attentive, but it took a long time for the food to arrive, which I would think be unusual for a Thursday afternoon around 4:00 o'clock. I will certainly think twice before eating there again, and if I do, seafood will not be on the menu for me.
