Three months ago I would've cut a bitch for helping themselves to my Sudafed stash. These days I…read moreprobably wouldn't notice the missing pills for months. Six years ago I pretty much walked away from a head-on collision, I consider myself very lucky. My airbag likely saved me from serious injury, but did leave me with a concussion and a deviated septum (not known at the time). The aftereffects of the accident along with some preexisting sinus problems left me with a multitude of problems that got progressively worse: chronic sinus infections, frequent headaches and migraines, severe sinus pain and congestion, trouble concentrating, uncontrolled asthma, sleep issues, and difficulty breathing through my nose. A few years after the accident I had my first ENT visit and the guy didn't do very much to sell me on the idea that this surgery would improve my life, so I passed. It still irks me to know I could have been feeling like a new person long ago. By the time I saw Dr. Kern, my monthly Sudafed requirement rivaled that of a meth dealer. I liked Dr. Kern right off the bat, he's very personable and rather than lead with my surgical options, he first listened to my sinus issues and reviewed nonsurgical options that might work for me. Unfortunately, it only took a brief exam (including cat-scan) to confirm surgery would be my best option if I wanted significant long-term improvement. My surgery had to be delayed one year after I first met with Dr. Kern; my grad school insurance denied my surgery despite being medically necessary (and not cosmetic)! ::shakes angry fist at insurance bastards:: One year later, I had insurance that covered the procedure and was rearing to go under the knife. Not only had my problems worsened 50% in a year, but when you know there's something out there that will make you feel whole again, the waiting can be torture. Dr. Kern is a bit of a stickler, he has a thorough pre and post surgery protocol, which included medicines, vitamins and supplements I had to stop taking 2 weeks before and after surgery. He also required I take a minimum of one week off of work and use a specific brand of OTC sinus rinse to keep the area clean and hydrated. I won't get into details of my procedure, but the surgery was no walk in the park; it knocked me on my ass harder than I anticipated. However, I don't regret it one bit; a week after my surgery the splints, stitches and other stuff were removed and I was giddy that I could actually breathe through my nose. It's been nearly three months and I have had almost no sinus pressure or pain, headaches, and my asthma is more controlled than it's been in 6 years. I've also only taken about 8 of those little red magic pills in the last 3 months, pre-surgery that was more like a daily dose, and my Kleenex usage has dropped off considerably (sorry Kimberly-Clark). Both of my post op visits have confirmed that my surgery went beautifully; I wouldn't hesitate to refer anyone with sinus issues to Dr. Kern, he and his staff are amazing.

I went to see DR. Kern because I wanted to get an expert opinion and answers to my questions. I've…read morechronic sinusitis since my childhood, went thru a couple of procedures and recently I'd developed ear pain with other symptoms. First, my appointment was delayed by 40 minutes; I can somewhat understand that part. Once I got to the consultation room, his assistant was in so much hurry for whatever reason. She jot down some notes and left the room. Then the Dr. arrived and though pleasant, was also in a rush. After literally a few seconds of my nasal passage examination, he said that he can't send everyone who walked in for an MRI. He prescribed me a "Nasal Spray for ALLERGIES" and advised to see the Head Pain Department at NW Hospital. After years of sinus issues, yup I needed to go see a specialist to get an Allergy Spray! I'm so regretting spending my hard earned $ for this Dr. Altogether the impression I got: Both of them wanted to get rid of me ASAP. My presence felt like a waste of their time and a burden to them. Again, I do not know why!

In the room with me, Dr. Siegel said that cancellation was no big deal, and pressured me to schedule when I wasn't sure my work schedule could acomodate. He made it sound like cancellation happens all the time, and it's not a big deal to reschedule. When I informed them on the phone I couldn't make it (3 days notice) they informed me I would be paying $500 for the privilege or receiving nothing. They then pointed to their disclaimer forms. Since I did not record my appointment, I have no way to prove it, but I was mislead by the physician in this case. Supported by a wonderful surgical team at Northwestern, Dr. Siegel performed a number of "-tomys" and "-plastys." As a layperson, I told friends and family that my sinuses had been "roto-rootered." In the months since surgery, I've had several follow-up visits with Dr. Siegel. The staff at Midwest ENT is terrific; clearly, they're a reflection of how Dr. Siegel practices medicine. I'm no longer a mouth-breather, my sleep has improved dramatically, and my wife swears my snoring has stopped. Thank you, Dr. Siegel! Ps. With respect to criticisms about wait times, get over it. Quality medical care requires time and attention to detail. I'm enormously grateful to be on the receiving end of it!

I would NOT recommend him or this office if you are looking for a medical specialist to address your ENT concerns with genuine care unless you are ready to deal with unethical billing practices, a misleading physician, and some (not all) unresponsive/conceding staff. Before seeing Dr. Dixon, I checked with my insurance provider to ensure my visit would be covered. Before this, I had contacted his office directly and received a curt and annoyed response from whoever picked up my call to my initial questions about setting up an appointment and their insurance partners. This definitely should've been the first red flag, but I continued making the appointment because I was honestly interested in working with a Black physician if I could. So where did things go left? Well, when I arrived for my initial visit 30 minutes early, I was left waiting in the waiting room for almost an hour after checking in and paying my co-pay. When I finally saw Dr. Dixon, I shared my reasons for the visit and prior experience years before working with an ENT. He then enthusiastically laid out how this visit would go, sharing that during the first visit, nothing much would happen, but in my future visits, we would work together to explore some of the things I shared to help improve my concerns. I was then asked to sign a document and told, "This is just a part of the initial visit and to look with this camera, but we're not doing anything today, so don't be concerned." And boy was that a BIG LIE! Two weeks later, I woke up on Saturday morning to a bill that had been texted to my phone from Dr. Dixon's office for a few hundred dollars. Now, imagine the shock that would come with seeing this, after paying your co-pay upfront and being reassured several times during the visit as well as before and after some random form is abruptly presented to you by your doctor that "nothing was going to be done today, this is just a part of the initial visit." So when I called later to figure out where the charge was coming from, I learned that the paper I had signed after Dr. Dixon request to use this camera to look in my nose for less than 2 minutes as "just a part of the initial visit" was actually now an unexpected bill of $306.31. My concern with Dr. Dixon's practice and certain members of his office team is that when I conveyed what had been communicated with me by Dr. Dixon himself during that visit, and questioned why the charge had been coded separate from the initial visit and the ethics of that decision, I never received a clear answer, there was NO attempt to be accountable for Dr. Dixon's mistakenly or unmistakably misleading information regarding the form he presented, and none of my calls requesting the opportunity to speak with someone in billing about my concerns were ever returned. So I'm writing this because I DO NOT WANT anybody to ever have this experience. It's not right, it's unethical, and it's hurtful. When you go to see a doctor, you are putting trust in the provider to help you, NOT TO HURT YOU mentally, emotionally, and financially. I'm disappointed with my experience visiting Dr.Dixon's practice and will not be returning. And if you made it this far in this review, I'd encourage you to stay away too.

You see a specialist after you have gone through extensive trial and failure and you have been miserable for quite some time and it's beyond a general check up. Dr McMAhan and his staff and exceptional. You walk in the office and it's like a family!! Dr McMahan is hilarious, I can't believe the crap written here!! He gets down to the point and gives you the facts, he wants to get you better, that is HIS JOB!! He's been doing this a long time he knows what he's talking about, he doesn't dismiss any of your symptoms and makes sure there's an answer and reason for them. Even if it involves extensive testing!! Wouldn't you rather feel at ease knowing its nothing, then to go years and have something serious missed. In case you haven't noticed every ENT specialist has A ct scanner in their office it's what needs to be done sometimes to make sure you aren't infected anymore!! Since when is it the doctors or hospitals fault on the insurance you have? We picked it, we know how much we have to pay, and what our deductible is!! I have to meet my deductible , it has to be met before anything is covered even my monthly medications!! I know every year I have to pay it!! Dr McMahan is far from a greedy man, they have the best billing arrangements, they are flexible, easy, and have been so understanding through difficult times. I used to be sick all the time, sinus infections probably life long and never knew it, congested to the point I accustomed to it because I didn't know any better. Couldn't never smell anything. I don't have any issues, yes I get my 1-2 sinus infections but with a quick visit I can rest assure my infection is gone and the bacteria is not eating away at sinuses!! Doctors used to send me away with just basic OTC meds and never did any aggressive treatment to put an answer or end to my misery until it this cool place!! Oh and for the idiots who said its verbatim on what he tells the next person, first of all you are noisy and should stay out of another patients medical confidentiality and second of all DUH, he's a specialist he only sees patients who have sinus allergy and sleep issues, so the testing is going to be the same do you want our sinus issues solved or what!!

I filled out basic medical history and such on their patient portal beforehand, which I thought was quite convenient and makes things more efficient. I was really excited with all the raving reviews on not only on Yelp, but on other health websites that rated Dr. O'Mara. When the doc walked in, she was extremely nice, very knowledgeable, straightforward, a great listener, gentle, professional, and very informative. She listened to all of my health issues as well as my thoughts and opinions, and basically gave me a plan of action. She took her time with me, asking questions, and the whole time, I was not felt rushed! The best thing is that she was very genuine and I was extremely comfortable, being a new patient with all these high expectations! There is a lab on-site, and the phlebotomist, Lauren P., was so sweet and kind, and drawing blood was not at all uncomfortable (considering I have a very low threshold of pain and am such a pansy!). My initial consultation was in her office, where she interviewed me about all of my health concerns, family history, and really took the time to get to know both me as a person and my health issues. Despite a relatively complicated health history, Dr. O'Mara has gone above and beyond. She takes the time to research issues about my medicine and listens to my questions, no matter how silly they may seem to me, in a non judgmental environment. She has followed up on problems or before procedures through phone calls about things I, at times, hadn't even thought about. She is always eager to explain these things to me. She truly cares about her patient's well being and happiness -- even following up on what I thought about places she had sent me for a referral. In short, I have never received this level of care with any doctor before. Her assistant, Angie, is also very nice and helpful. To top it off, it's extremely easy to make appointments here, and Dr. O'Mara keeps an electronic portal where you can ask her questions, view your test results quickly, and access other features from your visits.
