I was dreading the appointment because typically doctors reprimand you for your lifestyle (i.e. If you have more than 2 drinks per month you're an alcoholic, etc.) and it's demeaning with respect to social standards. I try to keep healthy but I'm not perfect. Anyway, Dr. Pearson was the first doctor I've been to who treated me like a real person & listened intently to my concerns. She spent over 30 minutes with me (again, this was just a proactive check up) and by the time I left I felt like a VIP patient. Then within a few days after the appointment, she personally called me to deliver my test results (all positive) and patiently walked me through each section, explaining areas I did not understand. Moreover, she talks to you in layman terms, translating the medical jargon into coherent facts. I'm actually excited that I have such a wonderful regular physician! I certainly won't be dreading my regular checkups anymore. Seriously, Dr. Pearson is the best!!

One of my clients loves going to Dr Lavery. raves about how attentive he is, calls her back, her husband and her sisters all go to him. Yelpers are raving about him. I thought I was coming down with a sinus infection or the cold that wouldn't go away and wanted to see him about a physical down the road. I made an appointment and they got me in to see him the next day. Despite the CTA screwing me over and barely a taxi cab in site, I did manage to make it to my appointment with literally a minute to spare. If you are 15 minutes late, you have to reschedule and will be charged a late fee. Whew..... Well, I got it all answered for you. Dr. Lavery is nice, quick, informative with out going over your head, gives you all your options when faced with decisions and let you make the choice. He's about business, but with a smile and wants to make sure you are comfortable. Not about wasting your time, but still giving you the time you need. He actually did the physical and made sure everything was working order. They were. Which, of course, makes me happy. Hopefully I don't have to see him until my next physical, but at least I know I will be in good hands. Now, turn your head and cough.

Yelpers seem to love Dr. Anne Suh, but she was booked through February, so I took an appointment with another doctor in her office, Dr. Lavery. The problem wasn't really with him, although he did criticize my drinking and recreational drug use, and then almost immediately offer to write me a prescription for happy pills. The problem was with the nurses. A young nurse with an Olympia College name badge came in to check my height and weight. She seemed unfamiliar with how to use a balance scale and it was obvious she was nervous. Later she returned and it was apparent that she was going to be the one drawing my blood. I'm alright with needles and my veins are easy to hit, but when she ties and reties the rubber strap more than once and then asks me whether or not she should be tying a butterfly knot, I started to freak. Everyone needs to practice, but I didn't want to be her pin cushion. I asked her if she could find someone to help her and she said, "Are you sure? I've done this SEVERAL times." YES, I'M SURE. She returned with another nurse who acted like her presence was unnecessary, yet proceeded to correct the first nurse's choice of needle, retie her knot, and readjust her supplies. Even after all that, they ended up poking me three times. Jerks.

After a week of coughing and sneezing I called Dr Suh's office prepared to beg for an appointment that day. It turned out I didn't need to do much begging...there were able to fit me in with their Physician Assistant an hr later. Hurray! I don't take pleasure in visiting any dr, but this office is the exception. Everyone (and seriously everyone) is sooo nice! Friendly receptionist, super sweet nurse and Sharon the Physician Assistant was wonderful as well! I didn't feel rushed at all because Sharon, who sounds eerily similar to Ellen Page from Juno, spent a good amount of time chatting with me how I was feeling. After a blood test and confirming I was full of mucus (lovely, I know) she prescribed a z-pack to make me all better. Oh, how I love antibiotics. I left without even seeing Dr Suh, yet it was another 5 star experience!

tl;dr: Dr. Suh is the best doctor I've ever had, hands down. And if you have trouble with contact,…read moreuse MyChart (mychart[dot]nm[dot]org). Dr. Suh is attentive, simultaneously both friendly and professional, doesn't rush you out the door, asks the right questions (she doesn't wait for YOU to mention that weird mole or why you've been refilling your xanax more frequently or whatever...), she's good at sensing/reading that there's something you want to ask but about which you might be afraid or embarrassed (I got over that long ago, but was a big help when I started seeing her about 9 years ago), and if you have test results, follows up with a phone call even if they're normal. And here's a big one - she treats you with respect. I've seen a few doctors in Chicago who have treated me like a child (one who did that recently was almost certainly younger than me) or an idiot (I'd like to think I'm not - I read a ton about medicine and science in general out of sheer curiosity, have a background in chemistry, and come off as well-spoken and intelligent [so I've been told]). I've seen a lot of reviews here complaining about the office staff, perhaps at the old location on Washington. They weren't without flaws, but I've seen MUCH worse (*ahem*women'shealthconsulting*ahem*). I think there might be a completely new staff at the Delano location, but I'm not sure; I've only had one visit there. The one complaint I have from my only visit to the new office is that, although I was quite early & Dr. Suh was running a little behind, they didn't offer to draw blood or get a urine sample while I was waiting (it was an annual exam - they ALWAYS do blood & urine). I probably could have asked though, or maybe there's a new protocol or something. Not the end of the world, for sure. If you have trouble getting in touch due to the Northwestern bureaucracy, I'd highly suggest using the MyChart portal to send messages to Dr. Suh, schedule appointments, ask for refills, etc. It really does work, I've never had a problem with it at all. Sadly, I'm moving out of state in about 6 or 8 months, so unless I get sick between now and then (fingers crossed I stay healthy this winter!), my most recent visit with her will be my last.

As good as it gets!" and in this case, I could not agree more. The office itself is great. The staff are nice and seem pretty organized, and I book my appointments online without issue. I am also usually able to get a spot within a reasonable period of time (not 6-8 weeks out like so many Chicago doctors). However, the real reason for the 5th star is Dr. Reyes. Dr. Reyes has the best bedside manner of any doctor I've ever seen. She actually takes the time to listen to your symptoms, concerns, and history. Dr. Reyes also seems to genuinely care about my health and well-being as much as I do, acting sympathetic toward even seemingly minor complaints. Miraculously, she is able to give this much attention to her patients and STILL her office runs on time. I don't know how she does it--I've never waited more than 5 minutes for an appointment. I first saw Dr. Reyes in January 2014 when she was with the Advocate group. I was disappointed when I called later for another appointment and they told me she was no longer there. The staff had no information on where she was practicing or how to contact. I was forced to try other PCPs, and it was only when I needed a check-up in 2017 that I finally found Dr. Reyes again. I was thrilled and relieved (and clearly, my positive memories of her held up). If there were ever a doctor worth tracking down, it's Maria Reyes!

The office is located off of St. Clair in the Northwestern Memorial building (and there is validated parking available); the office is very cute, clean, and modern, and I waited less than 10 minutes after my scheduled time (which is pretty much unheard of; the receptionist also apologized which I thought was ridiculous!). I filled out basic medical history and such on their patient portal beforehand, which I thought was quite convenient and makes things more efficient. I was really excited with all the raving reviews on not only on Yelp, but on other health websites that rated Dr. O'Mara. When the doc walked in, she was extremely nice, very knowledgeable, straightforward, a great listener, gentle, professional, and very informative. She listened to all of my health issues as well as my thoughts and opinions, and basically gave me a plan of action. She took her time with me, asking questions, and the whole time, I was not felt rushed! The best thing is that she was very genuine and I was extremely comfortable, being a new patient with all these high expectations! There is a lab on-site, and the phlebotomist, Lauren P., was so sweet and kind, and drawing blood was not at all uncomfortable (considering I have a very low threshold of pain and am such a pansy!). Dr. O'Mara and everyone on staff seems to be extremely detail-oriented and organized (which I absolutely love). The high ratings on the doc do not do her justice - she really is AWESOME. I have a follow-up next week am actually looking forward to a doctor's appointment - isn't that crazy?! Dr. O'Mara's office is a clean, modern one-physician practice. She exhibits all of the professionalism and knowledge I have come to expect and appreciate from Northwestern practitioners and affiliates. I was randomly assigned to her through Northwestern's physician referral practice after I suffered a serious medical event and I was shocked by how great my experiences with her have been. My initial consultation was in her office, where she interviewed me about all of my health concerns, family history, and really took the time to get to know both me as a person and my health issues. Despite a relatively complicated health history, Dr. O'Mara has gone above and beyond. She takes the time to research issues about my medicine and listens to my questions, no matter how silly they may seem to me, in a non judgmental environment. She has followed up on problems or before procedures through phone calls about things I, at times, hadn't even thought about. She is always eager to explain these things to me. She truly cares about her patient's well being and happiness -- even following up on what I thought about places she had sent me for a referral. In short, I have never received this level of care with any doctor before. Her assistant, Angie, is also very nice and helpful. To top it off, it's extremely easy to make appointments here, and Dr. O'Mara keeps an electronic portal where you can ask her questions, view your test results quickly, and access other features from your visits. If you need a new internal medicine doctor, visit Dr. O'Mara.
