She gave me a Pap smear while I was having my period, which I knew would skew my results. At the time, I questioned her, she told me my fears were unfounded & not to worry. It was perfectly fine to do a Pap smear while I was having my period period. She then called me saying that based on my Pap smear results, I needed a uterus biopsy. I went to my OB/GYN, who told me she never should have done a Pap smear while I was having my period. Thousand of dollars later after a very painful biopsy of my uterus, I found out that I was fine and it was all unnecessary because of the Pap smear during my period. I went back to Dr Wallner and told her what my OB/GYN said & the results of my uterus biopsy, and she bristled and was very irritated. She does not like to be questioned. I also went in for a physical and didn't even undress. It was a 10 minute procedure and she was very cold and short with me. I did not feel like it was thorough physical compared to others I have had previously,. No breast exam, etc. She also referred me to a terrible cardiologist, who would not listen to me. I ended up going to the ER on my own against her advice and found out I my fears were founded after an angiogram showed I had heart disease.

I think I found the best internist, EVER. Setting up an appointment was a breeze - the…read morereceptionist, Angie, is a sweetheart, and she was able to squeeze me in when luckily there was a cancellation. The office is located off of St. Clair in the Northwestern Memorial building (and there is validated parking available); the office is very cute, clean, and modern, and I waited less than 10 minutes after my scheduled time (which is pretty much unheard of; the receptionist also apologized which I thought was ridiculous!). I filled out basic medical history and such on their patient portal beforehand, which I thought was quite convenient and makes things more efficient. I was really excited with all the raving reviews on not only on Yelp, but on other health websites that rated Dr. O'Mara. When the doc walked in, she was extremely nice, very knowledgeable, straightforward, a great listener, gentle, professional, and very informative. She listened to all of my health issues as well as my thoughts and opinions, and basically gave me a plan of action. She took her time with me, asking questions, and the whole time, I was not felt rushed! The best thing is that she was very genuine and I was extremely comfortable, being a new patient with all these high expectations! There is a lab on-site, and the phlebotomist, Lauren P., was so sweet and kind, and drawing blood was not at all uncomfortable (considering I have a very low threshold of pain and am such a pansy!). Dr. O'Mara and everyone on staff seems to be extremely detail-oriented and organized (which I absolutely love). The high ratings on the doc do not do her justice - she really is AWESOME. I have a follow-up next week am actually looking forward to a doctor's appointment - isn't that crazy?! I am looking forward in being Dr. O'Mara's patient for years to come! +ask for Angie, the receptionist :D +Dr. O'Mara = AWESOME +limited parking (park at garage)

Dr. O'Mara's office is a clean, modern one-physician practice. She exhibits all of the professionalism and knowledge I have come to expect and appreciate from Northwestern practitioners and affiliates. I was randomly assigned to her through Northwestern's physician referral practice after I suffered a serious medical event and I was shocked by how great my experiences with her have been. My initial consultation was in her office, where she interviewed me about all of my health concerns, family history, and really took the time to get to know both me as a person and my health issues. Despite a relatively complicated health history, Dr. O'Mara has gone above and beyond. She takes the time to research issues about my medicine and listens to my questions, no matter how silly they may seem to me, in a non judgmental environment. She has followed up on problems or before procedures through phone calls about things I, at times, hadn't even thought about. She is always eager to explain these things to me. She truly cares about her patient's well being and happiness -- even following up on what I thought about places she had sent me for a referral. In short, I have never received this level of care with any doctor before. Her assistant, Angie, is also very nice and helpful. To top it off, it's extremely easy to make appointments here, and Dr. O'Mara keeps an electronic portal where you can ask her questions, view your test results quickly, and access other features from your visits. If you need a new internal medicine doctor, visit Dr. O'Mara.

I have been a Dr. Phan patient since 1999 and she has been there through at least two insurance…read morechanges! I first started seeing her when I had a real job with my own insurance and she has taken care of colds as well as the female stuff. I am the kind of person that wants my doctor to be no-nonsense and just cut to the chase with me - I've had a lot of serious health issues and I just don't want to sugar coat things. She knows this and gets right to it without any touchy-feely stuff, but I get the sense that she is totally compassionate and sensitive to patients who need that experience. I've never felt that she is cold, just professional, in other words! The only thing I wish that was better was trying to get a prescription for medication now and then - I went in for migraines a long time back and instead of a prescription, I had to keep a food diary - coming back six months later I just asked for the medication my friend let me try and got the script, but I was suffering that whole time. And every year when I have a cold, everyone else can get the Z-Pack but I have to let the thing run its course. I get that it is really for my own good not to take too many antibiotics, but try telling that to me when I am miserable and working 10 hour days!! A small price to pay for her wonderful and fast care! (And I especially love that she will call personally and leave test results on your voicemail if you authorize it!)

I'm assuming Dr. Phan is still a great doctor…read more I say "assuming" because I'm no longer her patient. Why? She dumped me. Last year I (like many Americans) went through an extended period of unemployment and no health insurance. I couldn't see her for awhile. When I became gainfully employed and fully insured again (yay!) the first thing I did was looked her up in the "book" for the HMO insurance plan I selected to make sure she could remain my PCP. Keep in mind, again, that she's already been my physician for going on 10 years. I was so loyal to her that, if she hadn't been listed in the plan I selected, I was prepared to choose another one where she was. I was pleased that Dr. Phan was listed in the plan I selected, and I called her office right away to make an appointment and get re-established. I arrive a week later or so for my appointment only to be told that Dr. Phan would not see me because she was not part of my insurance plan. Huh? But she's listed in my plan, I protested -- in the book and on the website. And furthermore, why didn't I receive a call telling me this before I actually came to the office. Dr. Phan's front-desk "gatekeeper" claimed that they've been trying to have her removed from my plan's "book" for several years. I, frankly, don't believe that. Not only is she listed in the book, she's listed on the website. It cannot be THAT difficult to remove. And further, I was asked the specifics of my insurance plan was when I made the appointment -- if Dr. Phan wasn't part of it, why not tell me then? Although I've had the same cell number for 6 of the almost 10 years that Dr. Phan was my PCP, and that number is listed as my primary number, her office called my home landline about an hour before the appointment to "cancel" it. How many people listen to their landline voicemail with any frequency? And why the office never called my cell number remains a mystery. I asked if Dr. Phan would see me anyway -- again, I hadn't been to the doctor in at least 9 mos. and I figured, after all of our history together, we could find a way to sort it out. No such luck. Front desk chick told me "Sorry, bye." So that's that. Never got any kind of follow up phone call or anything from Dr. Phan or her office. I felt silly for thinking that having had a longstanding history with her meant something. In the end, it did not. It's all about the "plan" and the profits.

Dr. Cruzat is really excellent for patients in the area, though read the last paragraph for my…read morecaveat. This is especially true because her excellent, multi-lingual office staff will schedule you to fit in and appointment THAT DAY, or at worst, the next day if you're having an urgent issue. I can't stress enough how awesome this is. I was able to avoid paying extra money for the emergency room because she was able to go out of her way to make an appointment with a specialist who could rule out a true cardiac emergency when my heart rate and BP were extremely low and I was having dizzy spells and called her. I no longer live nearby but I have kept her as my doctor because of these factors and the fact that it's a hassle to change my Primary Care doc. I think the reason another poster said there is often a wait is partly due to the fact that they schedule patients pretty tightly so they can see you as soon as possible, AND she spends a really good amount of time listening to patients, even when a med student does the initial assessment she will take time to really understand what's happening. So that "wait-time" complaint is actually a benefit to whichever patient she's with at the moment, which will eventually be you! The only reason she doesn't get 5 stars from me: I think if you are offended by Christian sentiments (posters, little daily meditation books in the waiting room) she might not be the very best doctor for you. You might be put off by some of her priorities (for example, the friendly advice, You-should-marry-him-already and don't-you-want-a-baby? kind of thing - granted this is after I've been seeing her for 8 years and she knows me well, and I'm paraphrasing). ON the other hand, she really is a very intelligent, kind, attentive, careful doctor and the advantages vastly outweigh the disadvantage of my having to fend off her desire for me to put a ring on it and get preggo.

Last week I went to another doctor. She ordered a cat scan first thing. I chose Dr. Weiler as my physician upon moving to Chicago 7 years ago and every time I see her I…read moremarvel at what a truly great choice that was. This time it was an injury to my arm. I misjudged the weight of a crate and ouch, that hurt. I assumed it was a simple muscle strain, but I'm no physician. Dr. Weiler, however, recognized my symptoms as consistent with a more serious injury and, thanks to her and her very professional staff, I had an X-ray, an MRI and saw a specialist, all within four days of my initial visit with her. There's no way I could've achieved all these appointments on my own. It's only because of Dr. Weiler and her staff that I got in to see a specialist that very same week. UPDATE: Within 10 days of that first appointment with Dr. Weiler, I learned I'd suffered a 95-percent separation of my bicep, and had the surgery necessary to correct it. Yes. All within 10 days. If not for Dr. Weiler, the injury I mistook for a simple strain could've very easily become so severe that even surgery wouldn't have been an option. Besides that, the specialist to whom she referred me was among the best of the best. Another win for Dr. Weiler. She's got a lot of those.

Once she left the doctor came a few minutes later. We realized that I needed a tetanus shot in addition to the physical and I opted just to do it that day. Even the lady doing my shot was quick - it happened in under 10 minutes. I was so surprised - talk about the fastest doctors appointment ever! They also helped me sign up for MyChart so I could see my results from my biometric screening digitally. No complaints from my visit here!
