Tomato Basil - not super hot, but flavorful
James G.

Wow! I had medium expectations here. However I should have lowered them because we were severely disappointed. Our waitress had only been working a month and had zero feedback on what to order or an opinion on any menu item. We had to ask another waitress her opinion and she gave us some insight but nothing mentioned was in the specials list. We ended up ordering the turkey club and Jedi's dip sandwich. Tomato basil and lemon rice soup. However my friend asked for tomato juice and soup instead of a potato option and was told no. She could have tomato slices but not tomato juice. Why? I had coffee but never got any refills until I asked. We also had ice tea but no refills until we asked. Turkey club - huge but fresh turkey. However way too much lettuce. Jedi's Dip - bread tasted "yeasty" and a bit sour so that wasn't good. The beef was okay. Not all whole slices but bits and strings of meat. We asked about dessert and since our waitress was not aware of the options we were told to walk over to look ourself. We just left after paying and ended up grabbing dessert at Miner-Dunn!

Hubby had the fried fish & I had the Monte Cristol. Food was average. This place is due for an upgrade. The decor was stuck on the 60s. We didn't get the server around again for a refill. They have a very huge menu & this place reminds me of the many restaurant shows where Gordon Ramsey would have issues with! It's basically overpriced cafeteria food. I won't be back.

Amazing that after all these years, and with huge crowds every night, Greek Islands still maintains…read moresuch a high level of food quality and service. We ordered the whole branzino with roast Greek potatoes, and it was every bit as good as the whole Greek-style fish we've been ordering since first coming here decades ago. The same with the horta (dandelion greens) which I recommend dressing with lemon juice, olive oil (there's a bottle on the table) and black pepper. Delicious. And there is no better taramasolata anywhere than here. Absolutely addictive. The kind they serve at other Greek places is just a pale imitation. Our waitress (I didn't catch her name, but she was from Russia) was an absolute delight. So friendly and efficient. I have one complaint. Egg-lemon soup is traditionally a dairy-free dish. But Greek Islands' version apparently contains milk or cream. I'm not 100% sure it does, but I have lactose intolerance and definitely suffered unpleasant aftereffects following dinner. I called the following morning and I was told that it does indeed contain milk or cream, but the guy I spoke to had a heavy accent so I'm still not sure. The point is, the menu should state clearly when a TRADITIONALLY DAIRY-FREE dish contains dairy for the benefit of people with lactose intolerance or -- much more seriously -- a dairy allergy. Not doing so is very, very irresponsible. That quibble aside, let me re-emphasize how impressive it is that this restaurant remains as good as it is after all these years.

I enjoyed the tzatziki, avgolemono, pastichio, and baklava. Everything was great, and it had been a while since I'd enjoyed such good Greek food. The only thing I would make a suggestion on is to provide a little more to tzatziki sauce. The service was great. Very friendly. The owner was in the restaurant and I had a quick conversation with him. The atmosphere is honestly what kept me in there. They have the option to sit outside or dine inside and I opted to dine inside. The decor on the walls is lovely and the traditional music that they play inside is also nice. Will definitely be back.

The meat was really thick and I was excited to bite into it. It looked delicious. It was... juicy. It dripped when I bit into it like a smash burger. It was the consistency of a mushy meatloaf. I could only get one bite down and had to throw it away. I can't even describe the taste because I just wanted it out of my mouth. I have never eaten here. I don't know if this is a one time thing or they are prepared like that every time. Maybe the meat wasn't mixed properly or cooked long enough. I hope it was a one off problem. I won't be taking a chance and ordering again though. I wish them well.

There is a monstrous screen behind the bar for sports, but they mostly show videos of Greece, but they are mesmerizing videos of a beautiful country. It's a cleaner version of Dengeo's. And, dare I say, better version. Except for their avgolemeno soup. Such a weak travesty. Please fix this. It's just a watery mess. However, everything else is delicious. I ordered the Greek Chicken with their lemon-butter rice. They debone the chicken and serve atop a mountain of their rice. If also had their potatoes (which are good) but the rice is magical. The first time we went, they had a serve yourself soda fountain and they since got rid of it and sell soda in bottles and cans. They do still have a self-serve water station. Once you order, staff will bring to your table, so please tip when you order or leave on the table as they do come by and clear your table as well. It is first come first served and you grab your own tables. I've been there on weekends and weeknights and they get pretty packed. The food is flavorful and quite tasty. The portions are huge so you're definitely going to bring something home. Nostimo is now in our rotation of places to go in a pinch and they do have an outdoor seating area, too.

Actually has a drive thru so how classy can it be. The restaurant has options for families and groups. Coming in here it looked like a regular casual restaurant where you order at the counter. Best we had was the Roditis, which is a rosé from Corinthia. It's about $8 for the Hummus. Comes with lots of pita bread. The rest of the menu is meaty. Great place located on Rand at Chestnut. It's closed Mondays. There's the hummus for vegetarians.

I got a chicken bowl and was able to load it up with several toppings. I ordered a lamb and beef gyro for my husband. A warning to olive haters, they put tomatoes, onions, and olives as their standard gyro toppings. I also ordered some chicken kabob sides to take home to the kids. That took a while to cook up, and then it was a little disappointing that they didn't come on skewers. Bolingbrook has other Mediterranean/Greek options, but this might be my new favorite. Knocking down a star because I had received 3 mail coupons that were probably outdated, but just said expiring within 30 days with no actual date. Anyways, I asked what was the best day to come here and they indicated that they seem to be short of supplies EVERY DAY! I wonder what the person is thinking who is responsible for ordering the supplies??? I've been here six times......three times I have walked out because the line was too long. It seems like the process for ordering and executing here is too long. The dining area is another story. We had to ask for utensils as the station in the dining area was missing utensils, sauces, napkins, straws, etc. The fountain pop machine had a couple of sodas empty of syrup. I'm wondering if there was any training done here???? It's too bad that this place is executing so bad since the food is actually pretty good. I will have to pass on coming here again since there are many other places located near by that actually have the food ready in an efficient manner!
