Leaks from oil pan from JDM Westside Engine
Juancho T.

Key-Takeaways * In essence, the engine works well. * The auxiliary components of the engine (engine oil pan, steering power pump) came damaged and had to spend $1,489.20 in extra repairs to fix the engine that costed me originally $2,600 as the result of the supervisor/owner not wanting to take responsibility of these damages. * "Lo barato sale caro" On Oct. 8, 2024, I decided to get the engine replaced for my Honda Pilot with JDM Westside since the last one wasn't working anymore. After the engine's instalment, I noticed leakage of engine oil dripping from the engine oil pan (see attached image) and asked my mechanic to diagnose the issue. The conclusion from my mechanic was that the engine oil was leaking because of a fissure in the oil pan. I brought this issue to the supervisor/owner of JDM Westside. After a week or so of delayed responses, he finally told me he was going to fix the oil pan. I agreed and told him to tell me a time to bring my car so his shop could fix it. He was taking days to get back to me and when he finally did he told me he was going to weld the oil pan. I am not a mechanical specialist, but even I knew this was a shabby method to fix the issue. I was not invoking the guarantee for replacement of the engine. I simply wanted him to replace the pan. This was coupled with his unreachability through the phone, sending me to his invoice every time I called after I brought this issue. So, the only means I had to fix the issue was through text. As a result, text was the only means through which I could try to fix this issue with him. As the result of taking weeks in trying to fix this urgent issue, his unreachability, and his unfeasible solutions I grew frustrated and sent him the last message that you can see attached to this review. He never responded back this this text. After I saw the lack of his responsibility, I decided to pay for the cost of replacing the oil pan myself, which costed me $690.20 to fix: * Power wash: $125.00 (receipt attached to the review) * Oil pan replacement: $564.20 (receipt attached to the review) After this fix, the mechanic pointed it out that the power steering pump was not functioning properly and implied that issue might be because I was sold an engine with a damaged power steering pump. I cannot ascertain whether the inability of the power steering pump to pump oil into the steering-wheel-tire complex is as the result of pre-installation damages, but I am tilting (as the result of the poor services and the problem with the oil pan) towards hypothesizing that this was a issue with the engine that JDM Westside sold to me. The total cost of the power steering pump replacement cost me $800 (an exclusive discounted price). This brings the total fixing of the engine to $1,489.20. The reason I decided to carry the burden of the costs of the repairs was because: 1) JDM Westside lost my trust in effectively repairing the engine in a sustainable way through their solution proposals. I did not want them to create problems I was going to have to fix in the future. 2) I needed to fix the issue as soon as possible. Their delayed response, their unwillingness to pick up the phone to fix the issue, and ultimately their silence after I clearly pointed out their unprofessional and laziness at fixing the issue effectively and rapidly made me realized that any repairs executed by their mechanics was likely to be done in a neglectful manner. I was conscious about the possibility of damaged components in the engines they import from Long Beach. This relatively low level of technique through which they handle engines is displayed even if their own Instagram page (engines stack on top of each other separated by wood walls: https://www.instagram.com/p/Cz1VXnmRg8V/?hl=en). However, their modus operandi of handling customer requests, not even for engine replacements, but just for the meager replacements of inexpensive oil pans is what really threw me aback. The engine is now running well. But I did find it distasteful, irresponsible, and costly to have the leadership of the organization lay and relinquish responsibility of the main product they bring to San Diego from the LA Metropolitan area. Another side note: I bought the engine during the East Coast strike of port workers in Oct. of 2024. For some reason JDM Westside wanted to hike the price of the engine from $2,600 to ~$2,800. My understanding is that they get their engines from JAPAN, and that they get it from the port of LONG BEACH. Therefore, I thought it was a vulture move for them to justify their price hike for a supply chain unrelated labor struggle. I should have seen this indicator as a manifestation of their incompetence and unprofessional modus operandi of carrying business. The reason I was able to maintain the price at $2,600 is because one of their workers gave me the wrong price in a phone call before I went to their warehouse. I guess he did not get the memo fast enough.

This place is not honest, or keep up with the claim of guarantee.

Terrible business, no honesty. I purchased a motor, the gave me one I didn't choose, the valve cover was from a k20,I have a k24.this person was not aware that one employee approached me and told me that the owner simply ripped me off to make a buck.

Yeah, NEVER coming back here again. F this place, I walk in looking for a wheel lock removal tool…read morethat Napa makes. Common tool. It's their brand. Walk in, dude greats me in Spanish. Apparently this Napa is in Tijuana! I speak Spanish well (I'm mexican) BUT not enough to describe what I need in Spanish, so I ask him in English. "Looking for a wheel lock removal socket". Dude stares at me like it's not his job to sell parts. He grunts a little and says "oh..." stares at his computer, looks at me and says "we don't have that" in broken English, doesn't even try to look up a part. I look at the other Mexican next to him "do you know what I'm talking about?" He types in stuff in the keyboard and says "oh no. We don't have that". So I say "okay, let me google the p/n for you. Look, here it is, on your Napa website. $13" He stares at my phone, types in something and says "oh, we don't have that. No one has it anymore." "So they don't make it or you have to order if?" "It's special order. 2 days" "How much?" "$23 and there is a freight charge of $18" "Why is there a freight charge? It's a freaken 1/2" drive socket. They shit can fit in my pocket" "I don't know.".... Freaken useless people, I hate when the employees act like they are doing you a favor when you walk in. If you don't like your job, quit.

Napa had the best price out of 5 auto parts places shopped. I had an oil leak and had to replace the camshaft seals, timing belt, and water pump. I ordered for pick up and it was ready in a day. The cashiers were a riot, laughing and telling jokes with me while I waited for someone to bring out my parts. Be careful though, he almost didn't give me everything. I had to double-check the parts list before I left, and the guy had forgotten one box. Overall, this was a very good experience! Time will tell to see how these aftermarket parts hold up in my car... 3 weeks later: The mechanic said the seals were trash so he replaced it with ones he had. However, I still have a small leak so it's still tbd if these parts are the problem.... Another 3 weeks later: My trusty mechanic/owner Alex from Value Auto Repair took another look and no more oil leaks!

They installed them perfectly, they look amazing on my truck. I didn't have LED bulbs for my fog lamps, but Moe gave me a great price that included installation, plus a lifetime guarantee on their work and a ten‑year warranty on the fog‑lamp LEDs. You can't beat that kind of confidence. John also helped me out with a Kicker Hideaway 12" for my pickup, and once again, the deal he gave me included installation and a lifetime guarantee on the work. The sound upgrade is exactly what I was looking for and it's not taken up space in my pickup. Both Moe and John were professional, helpful, and straightforward. Great prices, clean work, and solid warranties, this shop really stands behind what they do. Highly recommend Car Audio One if you want quality service and people who actually care about their customers.

I went to the Kicker Audio web site to search for an authorized Kicker dealer in the Chula Vista…read morearea and came across Car Audio One. I stopped in a few days ago to see if they had the speakers that I wanted for the front and rear of my Ford Explorer and they did. I bought the equipment and got there at 9 AM today to have them installed. Within an hour, I got a call saying that the vehicle was ready to be picked up. When I got there, the vehicle was parked in the front and John proceeded to have me test the system before leaving and showed me the old equipment in the back seat. I attribute the short installation time to the fact that I was replacing aftermarket speakers in my Explorer with new ones so they only had to remove/replace what was already installed. No cutting or splicing of wires was necessary. I was also told that two people were working on my car which sped up the installation. The only thing that I wouldn't do is force someone to leave feedback before leaving. As I was getting ready to leave the showroom, I was asked for my phone and before I knew it, a Google review page was open with five stars already selected and a photo was attached. When I checked my camera roll later, I realized that John had taken the picture himself! I don't mind leaving feedback for a business and have done it countless times but I would rather do the work myself rather than it be forced. P.S. There was only one small issue that was noticed when John was trying to get out of the passenger side of the car. He noticed that the inside door handle wasn't working and he had to open it from the outside. This was quickly fixed by one of the techs who popped the door panel and connected the necessary part.
