heard good things about this place, saw the menu before we decided to eat here and it looked good...so off we went to our dinner at JC Riptides. the place, from the outside is a dump, don't let that scare you, the inside will take care of that.....wow, what a total dive, so i was now REALLY expecting great food, dives typically have really great server was friendly, quick and helpful. after a few drinks, we ordered, i chose the "cracker platter" of catfish, frog legs, gator bites and clam strips, along with a salad and baked potato. my mate ordered fish with a kale caesar (which our server winced at, she said she hates making them) blue cheese dressing was great, she told us all the dressings are house made.....my dinner was just OK....everything seemed to be a bit TOO FRIED, the fish was supposed to be catfish, but i swear it wasn't, way too light and flaky. the biggest issue we had was, being seated near the kitchen where all the servers and dishwashers are working, i could see A LOT OF IMPROPER FOOD HANDLING ISSUES.....watched our server grab a stack of dirty dishes of the table next to our, put them into the bus pan, walk into the kitchen and grab a handful of kale for the caesar....i witnessed other server touching their hair, their face their clothing, all WITHOUT washing their hands then touching food....GROSS. food is decent, but i couldn't see what the cooks were doing back there, as the cook's line was obstructed from my view.....it just calls a lot in to question for me...especially the potential for cross contamination... again, we like the food, but, because of what we saw, i wouldn't return. too bad......... read more

The food was great but service was sooooo bad it ruined our experience We will never ever be back, I literally had to get up every single time I wanted anything I tracked down the server 4 different times. Seems a little dirty but gave it a try. Should of went with my gut and stayed away. Order the steak dinner and wife ordered fresh catch. For the price the food wasnt even close to good. To top it off i got sick the next day. Definatly not recommended. read more

Wonderful food , super friendly service (Heidi treated us like family) . My husband and I drive past the restaurant almost daily , and decided what the heck let's eat. What a nice surprise. Great diamond in the rough! Don't let the exterior or old reviews keep you from trying this hidden in plain sight gem! We were recommended to come here and so glad we did. Ever since our first visit, we have been back about 2x a month! And, we are weekend visitors! In fact, we have referred quite a few locals and they say it is now there favorite go to spot too! The owner is one of the best hosts of a restaurant we have met. She is also one of the hardest working people there too! All of the servers we have had have been very accommodating. Now, to the food! They recommend the prime rib and the rock shrimp. Our first visit we had both and they were both cooked perfectly and tasted delicious. The portion sizes are quite generous and you get a choice of veg and potato! The veggies are sautéed to al dente and the baked potato is crispy and salted on the outside and actually baked to perfection-not stuck in a warmer to become kind of soggy and tired as if an afterthought. You'll say it's the best baked potato you've had in a long time! On return visits we almost always get the rock shrimp. It really is the best we've had. They also have fish specials which so far have all been excellent and expertly cooked. We often get the peel and eat shrimp and again the portion is generous and the shrimp are always so fresh and not the small ones you get at other places. Sometimes it is supper busy and meals take a little longer to come out, but you'll be so pleased when you get your meal and realize how cooked-to-order perfect the meal is. I know I have gushed on about this place, but great food and great service -consistently -are a lost art and tough to find in our world today. I have no idea how this place has four stars! Where are these patrons normally eating that they would rate this restaurant highly?! Sorry, I do not like giving bad reviews but this place is really sad and disappointing. Service was sweet but incredibly slow. The salad was soggy and made with old lettuce, one limp slice of cucumber, and a tomato slice that contained the "stem" portion, topped with a sprinkle of cheep pre-bagged shredded cheese. The fries and the mahi-mahi were definitely straight from the freezer and tasted like cardboard. My order of scampi rock shrimp was the only thing we even bothered to finish ... Not bad but I have also had so much better (JB's fish camp) ... It's not even like their prices are anything special, so I'm totally lost as to why anyone eats here. Riptides has always been one of my favorite Seafood restaurants in town, but its not in the heart of the restaurant area so I think travelers tend to over look it. I am a seafood lover, and my boyfriend isn't, and he loved the shrimp he got. As far as I'm concerned they have HANDS DOWN, the best scallops in this area, and I try them everywhere. The Oak Hill chowder's name always gives me a chuckle, but it is also one of my favorite soups in town (I do not eat salad, so I am a soup connoisseur). It has a nice atmosphere and has become one of my favorite low key date night restaurants. Sometimes when it gets packed the service is slow, but the food is well worth the wait. Also. be sure to check the Pennysaver and local coupon books because they usually run ads with coupons in them there. read more

What a find. This old school seafood joint is off the beaten path, located in the small town of Edgewater FL. It is situated in a older community where incomes seem limited. The quality and price of the food though, are quite spectacular. I ordered a the swordfish plate recommended by the friendly waitress. It was the best swordfish in memory. It was cut Thick. Old school thick, and cooked to perfection. Moist and juicy inside. Yes it was med rare. Many may balk as they slice into the tender flesh but it was better than any other fish I have enjoyed in a long time. It was a special and I believe it cost somewhere in the neighborhood of $20. It would have cost $50 in Beverly Hills and I am confident would not have tasted any better and most likely a smaller cut. Of course no salad or side order in most other fine dinning establishments, but certainly included at Riptides. We were celebrating a birthday and as we entered one of our guest joked about the huge wine glass displayed on the bar. "I'll take this glass of wine please" Once our order was taken the waitress brings over the display. Freshly washed she placed it on the table and proceeded to pour from the tasty inexpensive bottle of white wine we ordered. Laughter filled the room and our guess actually took a sip from the liter sized goblet. They did not charge a fee for the Cake we brought in to celebrate the Birthday and provided plates and silverware. Family oriented, friendly, affordable, happy, and flavorful. Upon arrival my girlfriend and I weren't exactly optimistic from this place's rough exterior, but don't be fooled this place is amazing. Erick was our server for the evening, not only was he hilarious he was also attentive, friendly, and efficient. We ordered gator tail, rock shrimp and crab legs for our appetizers, everything was awesome. To our delight dinner did not let us down either. I ordered the prime Rib sandwich, my lovely lady ordered the 14oz. Ny strip, and my little brother ordered the teriyaki chicken. Absolutely amazing quality, delicious as all hell and with all that food our bill barely breached 100. Highly recommended, and a great lesson in don't judge a book by it's cover. read more

Had the Prime Rib from the early bird dinner. Included a dinner salad and baked potato and corn fritter. My friend and I came on a Wed. which was ladies night so we got 1/2 off the glass of wine we had with our meal. Everything was good. The prime rib almost melted in my mouth. The bleu cheese dressing for my salad was the real deal. A good deal for the money. Will be going back soon. read more

We have dinner at JC Riptides every time we visit our friends in the area. Our whole family looks forward to this meal! Our last visit was July 25th. I ordered the Shrimp Lovers meal and it was perfect! The fried shrimp were crispy but not overly greasy, the broiled shrimp was cooked perfectly, and the scampi was DELISH! They hand-bread everything and make their own sauces and dressings...such a treat! The hubby had the prime rib and rock shrimp...he ordered it medium and it was perfectly cooked. He inhaled it, so obviously no complaints. The rock shrimp is always the highlight of the meal for us...the kids love it. The staff there were very attentive and they recognize us from previous visits, which we really appreciate. I can't say enough good things about this place. Excellent food at very reasonable prices. Love this place. Saturday evening was our first visit. Great food and great service, thanks Eric! Started with the Conch Fritters - excellent! My husband and I both ordered the Rock Shrimp dinner - excellent! And, can't forget the bread - so yummy - my husband said the bread took him back to the Bahamas. Ok...let me preface this review by saying I NEVER TASTED THE FOOD. HOWEVER, I was on vacation recently and stopped into this place, because earlier that day they had a HUGE banner flying overhead and advertised "ALL YOU CAN EAT CRAB". So I canceled my previous plans and thought I would give this place a try. Parked and walked into this place and the front door looks like a back door. Not very inviting. The atmosphere seemed decent inside. I waited for 10 minutes just to be told that if I didn't make a reservation I couldn't get in because they were booked solid. When I first walked in I was told to wait and I would be helped "soon". The first thing out of their mouth should have been, "Do you have a reservation?" and when I said no, the next thing should have been "I'm sorry, we are booked for the night." That would have taken less than 30 seconds and I could have been on my way. So a little word to the wise for your advertising, you may not want to advertise flying over head with a banner on a day you knew you'd book up the restaurant. Glad all these other folks liked your food. Unfortunately, I will never know because you get a HUGE demerit in customer service. read more

My son ate there a few nights ago and enjoyed blackened tile fish and his wife had the prime rib and they enjoyed both. Tonight was a different story though! It took an hour and a half for us to get our food and when we complained, the owner or manager (not sure who she was) came out to apologize about our experience. Although they took our $6.95 appetizer off the bill, they seriously should have taken at least one dinner off each bill to compensate us for spending our whole evening waiting on mediocre food.
