Okay it's only been a week since our last visit but we were invited by some close friends and decided it was JC's for (7) at 6 PM. We arrived on time and they were a little backed up it was Saturday night so we decided to have a cocktail at the bar the bartender was extremely friendly and helpful and yes they had "redbull" I immediately knew this was going to be a great night. What a great way to start the evening a tall double Ketel One with Redbull. The manager checked on us a few times and had our server Amy seat us as soon as a table freed up no more than 15 minutes after we arrived. Let me start by saying the service here is impeccable all the small details that you would expect are covered here. I think you can trust the service is always going to be good that's the culture. We started out with fired mushrooms and fried alligator both were excellent the alligator was perfectly done some of the best I've eaten in a long time. I then ordered the Oak Hill Chowder just to confirm I wasn't dazzled by my first experience it was exactly the same it is sooooo yummy. I really tried to order something else besides the surf and turf it wasn't meant to be But I did switch the broiled rock shrimp for the fried rock shrimp and wasn't disappointed. I must try other things I know so my next visit I will explore other options. This could become a regular stop for us and why not Flagler avenue has become such a hit or miss option that caters to the tourist and snow birds instead of us locals that spend money year around. If you want great seafood and awesome prime rib you should give them a try, it's very casual and it's a place where they appreciate you visiting their restaurant. Happened to come across a photo of Dave O's of a big ol' slab of blackened red snapper. Well it is my birthday and my choice of restaurants--Riptide's here we come! Had the Blackened Mahi Mahi with a baked sweet potato and it was sheer heaven, A puddle of melted butter oozed down the sides of the foil wrapper. Indescribable. Filled up on the water and fresh smoked fish dip --again mahi mahi and some other type fish--delish and most of my cole slaw. Tasted the Mahi Mahi to try it hot INCREDIBLE! Came home stuffed and thoroughly happy with my choice of restaurant and it is definitely on our "come back to " visit list for dining establishments in the local area. read more

Dinner on a Saturday night should be any restaurant's A game. Not the case tonight with JC's Riptides. We ordered the Prime Rib - one of their mainstay items. For sides we asked for baked potato with extra butter, no sour cream, and the vegetable medley. One of us ordered a salad. The highlight of the meal was the homemade ranch dressing. The potato came with margarine. The prime rib had a pile of seasoning on the plate - way over seasoned. The vegetable medley looked like something scraped from the bottom of the dishwasher. I had a fried shrimp dinner. The shrimp were humongous! Very light breading, which was not salty. Generous portion. My side dish was a mixed vegetable and Oak Hill chowder. The chowder was out of this world! I also had rock shrimp with drawn butter. Very tender. They forgot that I had ordered the rock shrimp and had to be reminded, so they had brought them out later in the meal, which was ok with me, as long as I got them. They are rock shrimp and you can't get them anywhere around here! I had ordered a small key lime pie, at the beginning of the meal, so that it could be defrosted and ready to eat by the end of my meal. They forgot to do that. So, no small key lime pie for me. I guess I didn't need the calories anyway. Overall, great experience for me because of the taste and portion size. I will be back. read more

This place is a diamond in the rough! It looks like a little hole in the wall, but my goodness the food was from out of this world! I read the reviews before I went and everyone recommended the rock shrimp. So, my Mom and I split one as an appetizer (6 shrimp). My word! It tasted better than the lobster and the lobster was delicious! What's that tell you? We got the prime rib with lobster, baked potatoes, hush puppies, side salad and rolls. It was way too much to eat in one sitting. They don't try to rush you out the door just like the olden days. You sat and enjoyed your company and the scrumptious food. My husband and I go here often and 90% of the time we have the same server, she's always amazing! However, tonight being our wedding anniversary we made reservations for 7pm. We arrived two minutes to 7:00pm. When we walked in there was a couple in front if us waiting to be sat ( they apparently knew the MOD). We over heard them say their reservation was at 7:15. The place was busy and there was one table left available. This MOD or their "friend" went ahead and sat them at the last table. After they are sat we were then told that they didn't have any tables open and we would have to wait. We called ahead and made our reservation. We weren't late. Our reservation was before theirs yet because the MOD knew them, they got our table?!?!?! We have NEVER had any issue with this place but because a manager knows someone they get sat and our anniversary dinner was ruined! We haven't yet decided if we will ever be back!! THIS is the place to eat seafood in the greater Volusia County. Listen, this family has been in the restaurant business for many generations. Not just the restaurant business, but the local seafood restaurant business. This is not the place for you if you are looking for some fancy tourist themed play spot.. This is the place us locals go to get someone the best seafood on the planet Earth. This truly is a family affair, on any given night you will find the owner working her butt off running tables and helping.. Her son will be in the kitchen cooking. Negative comments make me sad because they try so hard to make everyone happy and there will be a day this family finally gets tired of doing this and will retire. I will never be able to replace my favorites from Riptides. No one is perfect, but they are a small crew working hard to continue making some of the best seafood anywhere. My family ended up here thinking it was another 'Riptides,' but we were so hungry we gave it a shot. The food was really good. We were so hungry, in fact, there are no pics to show :) We shared most everything, but the meals were Rock Shrimp, Mates Platter, Fried Shrimp, and Alaskan Snow Crab Legs. Beautiful steak, rock shrimp, seared sea scallops. This was a really great meal. Our server was very courteous even though she was also dealing with an unruly customer who was trying to make a scene. She made great suggestions and helped steer my wife and I into a perfect meal. The prices are fair and we are looking forward to coming back. I started going to JC's Lobster Pot in Ormond Beach in the early 80's. The family owned retardant served the best and freshest seafood in town. The family sold and the food quality went with it. That restaurant closed in the 90's. JC's family now opened Riptides with the same wonderful food, friendly people, and full bar. Simply put, if you want the freshest cooked seafood around, go to jc's. While I stick to the seafood, my wife had a steak that was great too. Found this gem by happenstance. Staying in DAB Shores and decided to drive down to the Space Center for the day. On way back we drove up US 1 and looked for a place on Yelp to eat. JC's had good reviews so gave it a try. Very happy we did. They are famous for Rock Shrimp. 1st time I ever had these and they were delicious. They are like small lobster tails. I had them blackened and paired with a 9 oz prime rib. Prime rib was perfectly prepared, well seasoned and delicious. Really a home run. It's only about 20 minutes from DAB Shores and very close to New Smyrna. We'll definitely be back. read more

heard good things about this place, saw the menu before we decided to eat here and it looked good...so off we went to our dinner at JC Riptides. the place, from the outside is a dump, don't let that scare you, the inside will take care of that.....wow, what a total dive, so i was now REALLY expecting great food, dives typically have really great server was friendly, quick and helpful. after a few drinks, we ordered, i chose the "cracker platter" of catfish, frog legs, gator bites and clam strips, along with a salad and baked potato. my mate ordered fish with a kale caesar (which our server winced at, she said she hates making them) blue cheese dressing was great, she told us all the dressings are house made.....my dinner was just OK....everything seemed to be a bit TOO FRIED, the fish was supposed to be catfish, but i swear it wasn't, way too light and flaky. the biggest issue we had was, being seated near the kitchen where all the servers and dishwashers are working, i could see A LOT OF IMPROPER FOOD HANDLING ISSUES.....watched our server grab a stack of dirty dishes of the table next to our, put them into the bus pan, walk into the kitchen and grab a handful of kale for the caesar....i witnessed other server touching their hair, their face their clothing, all WITHOUT washing their hands then touching food....GROSS. food is decent, but i couldn't see what the cooks were doing back there, as the cook's line was obstructed from my view.....it just calls a lot in to question for me...especially the potential for cross contamination... again, we like the food, but, because of what we saw, i wouldn't return. too bad......... read more
