Our pool and hot tub lights went out. I called John. He came out within a few days. He was very professional and replaced the lights.

Aug 23 John came out to see my pool system because my family signed up PV solar, pool solar, and pool pump system with ESP. ESP contracted John to do the pump and equipment part of the job. When John arrived, it felt so comfortable talking to him, like he is going to do everything right for you, like someone you can count everything on. John talked to me about auto filling my pool which my pool lack the feature when it was built. John suggested I buy an autofill through him and when I asked how much, he quoted $60. When he left I texted him the following: Aug 23 Me: "Hi John, I'll like to have the $60 vacation autofill. I'll pay you direct in cash. When you come to do the pool pump project can you also help me buy the faucet adaptor and short hose to attach to the autofill? I'll pay you for those too." Aug 24 John: "I can get it the unit is 90.00 plus tax plus hose cost and labor for whatever time I spend running around getting the stuff." So, I did not read carefully that he is now saying the autofill is $90 not $60, then I texted: "We shall just have the vacation autofill $60. Now I just remember I do need more hose length for other things so I'll go buy that and the faucet adapter myself. What size hose should I get? I want to get them ready so when you come I can test the autofill make sure it works." John replied: "1/2" or 3/4 " will work ". There was a huge delay with ESP, the next time we talked about the autofill it was in Nov.. Nov 7 Me: "I've gotten a few adaptors 3/4" for my faucet, and 3/4" hose. Please bring the pool vacation autofill so we get to test it." John: "I will be there in the morning, I don't have those on hand. I will see if my supply house has any." Me: "Oh then you'll come back another day to install the vacation autofill for me? That's another trip! " John: "For a service call I will " Me: "There'd be no more service call after pump and pool equipment installation, only the $60 to pay for the vacation autofill which I've ordered months ago." John: "Ordered from me? I don't have those people get them on line. I will see if I can get one tomorrow and I think they are around 100.00 from me." Me: "The last time you told me $60? See our earlier text conversation dated Aug 23." John: "I looked in my catalog they are 105 plus tax if they have them, plus the hour of me running around for it. My text on August 24 says 90.00 plus tax. I can't buy them for 60" Me: "Can you get for me at $90? Because I already bought all different adaptors and hoses!" "Amazon is selling for $52?!" "Never mind, I don't want to trouble you, we'll just not do it." "Too late to order via amazon anyway." "But you do sound really nice and so helpful so reliable when we first met. Now I am realizing last minute I am not getting the item. ". "But no issue. Let us just concentrate on the variable pump and pump equipment. Please no hiccups there, please." "Per my order I am getting the best variable speed pool pump and equipment that is going to link to my smart phone. If you need more time to get the items please let ESP know as I won't want anything different. " John: "Yea it's exactly what was estimated. If there is a problem let me know we can put this off." Me: "Nope we have put everything in financing, John. Why are you saying this now?" "What I'll do is accept a bit delay if you need more time to get the right items ready. That's what I typed, isn't it? What do you mean by "put this off"? " "John, please assure me that the pump and equipment are going to be ok, please." John: "I have everything as estimated." Me: "Do you mind please send me the details of the items you'd be installing? Part number etc.". John then called me on my phone asking me what's my problem! Sounding as if I am giving him trouble!! I recently had a pool build and with brand new Pentair equipment. There was a problem with the heater function and John was willing to drive over an hour up to my place (and an hour back) to help me out. He did not get fully refunded for his time as this was under warranty. John was extremely pleasant and professional, he was able to determine that the problem was not the equipment but a water pipe issue that nobody else had bothered to check. If it wasn't for his quick help and his expertise we would still be without a working spa/pool. All I can really be bummed about is that he does not service normally this far up the mountain and so we have to do without his regular help. read more

John Crafts who runs JC's Pool Works does not need a recommendation. That is exactly why I am writing about him. He has been in the pool business for over 30 years. Highly recommended by other more popular Pool Guys. He is licensed, bonded and insured, honest, and fair in his pricing. I needed a new POOL PUMP and after research convinced to put in a Variable Speed Pump. I called around and got different quotes. It's amazing how much you learn from different vendors especially when they don't need your business. I called Mike the Poolman and he gave me an education of what variable pool pump I needed and how much it would cost. He didn't have the time to do it and so I took it as an opportunity to pick his brain. He suggested John at JC's Pool Works and gave me his number. John doesn't have a fancy website, doesn't advertise, and isn't even on YELP. I figured I would change that. He was prompt at getting back to me and gave me a good quote. He even came out on Monday which was a holiday. The pool pump was installed quickly and actually charged me less than his quote. It only took him an hour. This is exactly the type of business people I like to work with. If you need any work done on your pool, filter, pump, electrical, this is the guy you want to call! He does not clean pools but any install or even BUILDING of pools, this is your man YELPERS!!!! read more

If someone does not show up when they say they will and does not call you back they are not worth any recommendation. I was referred to John Craft from my pool service guy as my water feature valve was failing. I called John, left a message and he promptly called back the next morning. We discussed the problem, he gave me an estimate to repair and I ok'd it. He said he would be out that afternoon or the following. Pretty simple I thought. Well he did not show up and has not returned any phone calls since. I left a message nicely asking to just call and let me know if he was too busy, nothing. I guess good customer service and follow up is too much for John Craft. If your looking for pool repair service keep looking! If someone cannot simply pick up the phone to call back or decline a service visit they are not worth any money you might spend. read more

We've used JC's Pool Works for several years. For the most part, it's been okay. The maintenance guy shows up early in the morning, spends no more than 15 min maintaining our pool, then he's gone for another week. The maintenance guy is unfriendly and seems to do only what's necessary, i.e. as little as possible. The service charge has always been a bit high, but recently got even more expensive. Billing and communication are a constant problem. The recent 10% increase in service charge was never communicated to us; it was simply billed to us. All in all, an unprofessional company whose services are subpar and too expensive. read more

Our pool pump was super loud so we thought we'd replace it before the neighbors complained, lol. John Crafts came out and explained the issues with our existing pool pump and gave us different options. He could either rebuild our existing pump, install a different rebuilt pump, or install a new one. He knew exactly which new pool pump would be the quietest and work the best for our pool so we opted for the new one. We also needed to have our cartridge filters cleaned and our hot tub light replaced. John took care of everything and we couldn't be happier, seriously. The new pool pump is very quiet and works so much better than our last one that we are kicking ourselves for not having done it sooner. The cost for everything was extremely reasonable but more importantly, John absolutely knows what he's doing! Give this guy a call! read more

I agree with the first post. I've had more than my share of problems with 25 year old pool equipment. Over the last three years my system has been totally replaced, piece by piece. Leslie's was pricey and had a revolving door of service people. With John, you know you will have the same man on the job from start to finish. Along with all his other business he is the local installation and repair person for the Sun Touch control system, which is how I first met him. From that point on, he is the go to person for all my pool needs. John doesn't just do a job, he also shares his observations and offers suggestions.
