Just passing through on the way to Colorado, and we needed a place to eat that wasn't a chain. We were pleasantly surprised at how delicious the food was! Brooklyn was our server, and she gave great suggestions. My husband got the wings and I got the nachos. They were delicious. There was so much food, too! The restaurant itself felt more "bar and grill" vibe despite its appearance of more BBQ joint in the outside. They did have a selection of both bbq and grill food. Overall, we enjoyed it. read more

We returned to JC's BBQ after a hard day of remodeling a house. Lovely greeting and checkout for our take out order as we were resolved to not cook this evening. Out order was for two salads with brisket that was generously accompanied by individually packaged side dressings, silverware and napkins. Outstanding interior with many guests looking comfortable. We first tried JC's BBQ on one of our twice annual trips to Colorado. It's in Junction City, KS - near Ft Reilly, KS. It's just off of I-70 and offers easy access on and off the interstate. The bbq here is very good and the service was excellent. The menu obviously leans heavily towards bbq but there seems to be something for everyone - except for vegetarians and vegans. The ambiance is a nice bar and grill vibe. Plenty of TVs with a great variety of sports. The service is top notch. Unfortunately the food fell flat. Nothing that I ate made me think of returning soon. Turkey and brisket were dry and not your typical texture. Might be good for drinks but I wasn't impressed by the meal. read more

The service was good the waiter was nice. The sauce on the wings stung my eyes. The grilled cheese tasted bad, the brisket tasted bad, the turkey was bad, the sweet potato fries tasted bad. The only things that tasted good were the French fries and the mozzarella sticks. read more

When we walked in, we were given a table, no option for a booth. I usually just leave a restaurant when they stick me at a table, but this one was against a back wall, so we decided to stay and give them a shot. I'm so glad we did! Our waitress was just a delight and the food was amazing! The fried pickles were definitely the best I've ever had and I could actually taste the smoke in my meat! The Mac and cheese was good, but could have spent a few minutes under a broiler. The Cole slaw was PERFECT, as our waitress promised it would be. Great BBQ! We stopped here while passing through Kansas, we always like to stop for BBQ somewhere and this place really hit the spot! The Smokehouse Mac n Cheese was absolutely delicious!! The Good: Very good hamburgers prepared well, great service from nice people, strong sports bar atmosphere with lots of TVs. The not-as-good: The BBQ seemed not as strong as I remember from past visits. It really was not bad, but not very strong, The stuff I didn't like: The slaw was fresh, but pretty plain and too vinegar-forward. The beans are really just barely dressed up canned beans. An abundance of those beans made the brisket nachos a little disappointing for me. But, all-in-all, I had a really good hamburger in a nice place served by nice people. I usually only go to a restaurant that has yelp reviews of a 4 or 5. This one had a 3.5, so we gave it a shot. The menu has a great selection of BBQ, wings, sandwiches, & sides. I ordered onion rings for an app and they were crispy & you could tell they were homemade. For my entree I ordered the bbq pork sandwich with slaw and a loaded baked potato. I was hesitant to do bbq because I'm from Memphis and they do it differently in Kansas. The bbq pork had a great smoke to it and the texture was spot on. The baked potato was the only part of the meal that was a bit of a let down. I could tell it was a bit old. I would definitely go back if ever in the area! The menu on Yelp is outdated. So go to their website to get the right one. We got the Big Memphis, queso fries, Mac and cheese, and a Big red one burger. First thing I noticed when I got home was this dry sandwich with no sauce. We got BBQ and no sauce, nothing, nada. They gave use the moist toilettes. I don't know why, because the sandwiches where bone dry with NO SAUCE!!. The max and cheese, just pass on that. Trust me. Shells weren't soft, barely had any cheese on it at all. Box Mac and cheese is better. My sandwich would have been decent if it had some sauce. The Big red one was alright. Best thing in the meal was the frozen fries, if that tells you anything. One of the worst Ribs I ever had. Meat was old and smelly. It had been in a poor warmer for days as I see it. Cold in the middle. All around bad flavor and texture. My husband ordered the brisket which he was not pleased with....he said it didn't taste as if it was BBQ'd. I had the pork sandwich and added pepper jack cheese which I thought was good.... I do not like dry bbq and it hard to serve good BBQ if it doesn't just come off the smoker. The sides were good and the service was just OK. Very nice staff greeted us at the door. We had 8 in our party, 4 kids, and for adults. They were more than welcome to move tables around to seat us were we requested. The prices weren't too bad, didn't see any entree that was more than $15, and the portion sizes were huge! If you have kids, the kids menu has about 6 options and they will leave very full! I had to get to-go boxes for all four of mine! All the food came out hot and fresh, and everyone commented on how tasty it was. Wait time was very minimal, and once again the staff was very nice. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was our waiter was forgetful. Had to remind him about a few things we asked for, but he was very apologetic and quick to remedy the mistakes. Ordered a classic BBQ turkey sandwich. The meat was cut into large chunks which were not at all suitable for a sandwich. Chunks tumbled out of the bun when sandwich was picked up. The bottom half of the bun was broken and served that way. Lastly, the turkey tasted like mystery meat - there was no turkey flavor - it tasted more like it came from a cheap ham. $15 plus tax ?
